Brimstone is awesome! I did a full series retrospective on it a few years ago. Horton & Glover were amazing together, and the show was superbly atmospheric and imaginative!
@drdarkeny2 жыл бұрын
I always thought Glover's Devil hung around and messed along with Stone so much because at some level, he had a weird affection for him and felt Stone understood him better than most damned souls. When Stone challenges him once about never loving anybody, the Devil snaps back, "I DID love somebody once, and look where it got me!" I mean, okay, after six seasons of LUCIFER the idea of the Devil as the emotionally-damaged son with God as the ultimate withholding absentee father isn't exactly a new idea any more, but Glover played it a lot better than audiences were ready for then, I think?

Brimstone was great, lots of little bits of the lore were really cool too, such as: the fact that every day Ezekiel wakes up with the exact same amount of cash that he had on him when he died (which was the reason he stayed in a shabby hotel, he couldn't afford anything nicer), the longer a soul had been in hell the more hell became a part of them which made some of the escaped souls stronger or faster or meant they had abilities (except Ezekiel who hadn't been in that long and was still basically human), when Ezekiel was visited by an angel in one episode (who looked exactly like Lucifer) he thought it was Lucifer messing with him but it was really an angel, but because of how the human mind processes things EVERY angel looks the same as the first one a person sees (it's like an imprint). There were lots of cool little tidbits of lore that made the show memorable. Another great show in a similar vein, albeit a comedy, was Good Vs Evil (also titled G.Vs.E)

Wiseguy was another show that’s kinda been forgotten, it’s incredible how influential that show was in popularising “The story arc” concept. Not to mention great performances and writing. It went for 3 solid seasons and ended with a 4th season that was never going to live up to the first 3 especially when the OG lead Actor Ken Wahl was replaced.
@Madbandit773 жыл бұрын
That's another Stephen J. Cannell production (the premise is basically James Bond from Brooklyn, yet Vancouver doesn't look like pre-hipster Brooklyn. Ha!) and it was his and Frank Lupo's new show after "The A-Team" wrapped (Lupo died in March of this year). It was groundbreaking in using "the story arc", a common tool in daytime and primetime soaps, in a crime drama within more than three episodes. It also gave the bad guys more layers to them and they either committed suicide, went nuts or got killed off. Vince Gilligan was such a fan of the show, he hired Jonathan Banks (Frank McPike) and Steven Bauer (who replaced Ken Wahl) to be on "Breaking Bad". I think Wiseguy is available on Filmrise's KZbin channel, but not all the episodes (music rights).
@CRITTERBUSTERS3 жыл бұрын
@@Madbandit77 Yeah, there’s an entire arc that’s been removed starring Tim Curry called “Dead Dog Records”. It has fortunately been uploaded to KZbin. Funny you mention James Bond, one of Wiseguy’s writers Alphonse Ruggerio was commissioned to write Timothy Dalton’s 3rd bond film. He was hired primarily because of his work on Wiseguy and they wanted a script tailored to Dalton’s serious take on bond. The script was completed but ultimately it never got made due to legal problems with the bond rights at the time.

Does anyone remember the 1997 sci-fi show The Visitor with John Corbett and Steve Railsback?

I had completely forgotten about Brimstone. I remember watching it when it aired and really liking it. Seems like something Shout factory should release.

i remember all of these shows but never saw The Rousters or Hawaiian Heat. I do remember the network promos for them though. Shades of LA was a pretty decent show! In my area, it was shown in syndication on a local superstation packaged with another syndicated show called "They Came From Outer" Space. It used to run on weekends. I liked Shades, and I especially remember the main lead of that show, John D'Aquino as one of the actors from two (technically 3) episodes of Quantum Leap. He played the big brother of the mentally disabled soul Jimmy, whom Sam leaps into. I also watched Down The Shore and in a way it was Friends before Friends. It was likeable, and I didn't mind it, but the first season was definitely stronger than the second. I remember critics at the time thought the show was better as a summer series - meant to be short lived like the summer itself. Brimstone was definitely a good show and had tons of potential. I don't know why FOX botched it by running episodes out of order. Maybe some executive had it in for the show's producers. Or had too much cocaine. I was hoping the Peter Horton character would get out of being sentenced to Hell. He went after his wife's rapist, (when man's justice system failed) not a dirty cop.

I remember THE ROUSTERS. Good times with that one on Saturday nights. Don't remember HAWAIIN HEAT. It does remind me of RUNNING SCARED, and the Robin Williams' flick, CLUB PARADISE. One show that keeps popping up is the short-lived SURFACE on NBC. Featuring a group od individuals who've had encounters with a newly discovered species of sea creatures that get up to daikaiju sized proportions. Only ran for 15 episodes on NBC in 2005-06.

I missed the last episode of Brimstone then it was on tv, I was about 13 or 14 and it crushed me. It was in the dark time when a show went off the air and you never saw it again.

It has a large fan base amongst fans of Bryan Fullers work - all of which have been royally screwed. Literally, EVERY SINGLE SHOW - from Pushing Daisies to Hannibal, all solid, all well done, but all weirdly ahead of their time. I always want Fuller to succeed too, because he grew up near me in a shitty small town in Idaho. With that said, people should have backed Fuller, especially considering what came out about Whedon. Backed the wrong horse on that one.
@Madbandit773 жыл бұрын
@@lesyeuxsansvisage1157 Fuller should just work for a cable network or streaming service because he's too good for broadcast TV.
