(5 Frameworks) Set Your 2024 System

Happy new year Vicky and congrats on the puppy. Wouldn't be surprised if you come up with a framework for puppy management. :). Instead of passively just watching this video, I actually did this exercise with you. Which is a small win for me (and a nod to how you just inspire action from others). I want to age gratefully and one of my side goals is to write/submit positive feedback to a colleague/company/friend/family member once a week. So by the end of 2024, at least 52 people are aware that an action they did was helpful and appreciated by me.

An interesting nerd thing to consider with 80/20 (not because it invalidates it, but just because I like thinking about these things and can't sleep) is what a lot of us consider wasted effort or low value are just necessary but not sufficient tasks. I think about prospecting activities, or attribution attempts in marketing. Because of this, I often see my staff cut out high value tasks, thinking they're applying 80/20, either because it seems so small they don't recognize what other large value creation is dependent on that, or because the tasks are probabilistic in nature, so sometimes they produce no value but 10% of the time they produce all the value. I'm also thinking things like trust building before a negotiation.

It's a great point! Something I struggle with as well. Sure, you might be getting 80% of the short-term value, but a lot of success is a lagging indicator and you might be leaving a lot of long-term value on the table.

Made a new Obsidian convention based on Idea Compass (kudos to your videos): - North: link to central note i.e. it's the parent note (in graph: arrow points from north to central) - South: backlink to the central note i.e. it's the child note (in graph: arrow points from central to south) - East: tag in between i.e. it's a rival (bully), not the primary relationship (in graph: tags can be turned on/off) - West: link on both sides i.e. west and central are siblings / reinforce each other (in graph: arrow points both directions) Note: be sure to turn on arrows in the graph settings
