Last night I saw this upload and since I was going golfing today, I thought, "Why not? Anything to help my game." I truly had no hopes this would really work. Before today, I usually shoot 100-110 and my lowest round was a 98, sad but true. Today I played one of the harder courses in my area (hazards on every hole, tons of fairway bunkers, etc) and using these things as well as the how to break 100 tips, I shot my new lowest score ever, a 91! I want you to know how helpful this video was. Thanks so much!

this happened to me once last year, i played by far the hardest course in the area and the hardest ive ever played yet. but i was playing alone and the challenges i think just made me focus in more and get locked in. i shot better on that course than i do on some of the easier ones.

How to break 90? 1) learn to strike the ball well using a simple golf swing ( see Jim Venetos or Kirk Junge minimalist swing= effective and simple) 2) learn how far each club carries and record it/ buy a laser range finder 3) find a tee shot club that finds the fairway 4) divide the distance between tee shot and hole into 2 or 3 and use a club you are good at 5) practise bump and run into the centre of green 6) practice speed control of putting stroke from centre of green to various hole positions. 7) practice 1 meter putts often with steel ruler drill. Be patient!

Hey Guys, finally I broke 90, I was very nervous the last hole par 5, my card was 80 and made triple boggy hahaha, that was insane but very happy, the final score 88. TBH, i followed all your advises except for the last hole my mind went black. i am still watching your videos but i would like to watch again a match play vs Mr Finch and Mr Shiels

Started playing golf in June, and participated in a club championship here in Norway this weekend. First day I used 93 strokes, and the second day 91. Was hoping to be under 90, but with just two months of practice, I'm quite happy :) I watch all of your videos and try to use the tips you give. Thanks guys!

I love tip 3. It took me a while to stop trying to be Phil, and just learn to be good with a gap wedge from 100 in. Once I did, I removed the duff and skull from approaches. It also gets you closer and removes 3 putting. It probably saved me 5 or so strokes a round from the beginning to the end of the golf season. That's the difference from 92 to 87.

Great video. I recently started breaking 90 on a regular basis. The best piece of advice I ever heard was when you're driving just "get the ball out there, keep it in play". My biggest issue was trying to get max distance on my drives, so I'd have easier approaches to the Greens. As a result I'd slice drives all over the shop, I'd end up losing about 8 shots a round on drop shots from the tee. Once I cut out those drops, by being more conservative om the tee, I started hitting scores of 83-87.

Have enjoyed watching your videos as a refresher. Was a scratch golfer from high school through my 20's, thanks to a dead accurate and long driver, solid mid-long irons, and better than average course management. Suffered injuries to both shoulders and my back, so fighting to get back to the game, but am having to "start over" in a sense. Don't have the power I used to have, so having to check my ego and use my head more to get solid rounds. First round back was a 93. Haven't carded something like that since I was 13 years old. So back to basics, focusing on having a tight short game, clean (but comparatively short) irons, and most importantly, remembering I don't have the "hero shots" in me anymore. Your vids have been a great reminder of the lessons I learned and forgot.

I have to express my sincere gratitude for your videos. They have helped me improve so much as a new golfer (3rd year playing - handicap of 19). I do sometimes over think shots using some of the techniques, but all in all, I have dramatically improved my game. As well as my knowledge of what is appropriate and what smart strategy is sound on the golf course. Again, thank you very much, keep them coming! Another idea for a video, is discussing rules and etiquette on the golf course and how technically you're suppose to play certain penalties or settings (i.e. hit a shot OB off the tee, grounding the club in the sand, playing in a foursome and how it relates to speed up play, etc.)

I break 90 every so often. It’s a challenge to stay relaxed when a round is going well. It’s a real bummer to shoot 41 on the front and 50 on the back. Advice I give myself, breathe and simply focus on the next shot. Thanks for the tips, avoiding the blowup holes will make those bad back nines less of an issue.

I didn't think this video was going to be worth me watching, when I found your channel last weekend. However, since watching you par 3 par 4 and par 5 videos i shot 95 in each of my 2 rounds this week and I am normally hoping and struggling for 99. your advice really helped me get out of my own way and not play hero golf. I left my driver in the bag and only used my my woods when I either had a wide open area to aim at or when I absolutely needed the distance and WOW what a difference. Also didn't lose a ball OB, which helps lol so now here is to playing for 89!

FINALLY! Shot 88 today! Struck the ball solid Today, all my misses were in the right spots (especially 2nd shots on reachable par 5’s) saved me a couple strokes. Clubbing up on the par 3’s, aiming for the centre saved me easily 3 stokes today! Cheers from Canada!

I have been using your tips for breaking 90 and they work! I have been shooting in the 80's ever since! Hitting to the middle of par 3's with trouble around was the best tip ever! Also a good tip to play better course strategy, which has been my weakness. Keeping the emotions under control is another great tip! Just watched how to break 80! I am sure trying! My lowest score to date is 83. I really don't know what I would do if I shot in the 70's!

These tips are great. Knowing the course (planning), sticking to the basics, not trying to bomb it on drives and putting everyday made a huge difference for me. Also oddly enough, while this didn't help with mechanics, playing a good golf video game really helped me simulate thought processes with every shot. The mental game got stronger. Staying cool out there also helps.

15 year old, just starting out with a set of a relatives old clubs. All the tips on this series of breaking .... were really useful even just to get my mind straight on what I should be aiming for. My iron and chipping game was strong from the moment I started and I'm going to use your putting and driving tips now to really consolidate my game and I think I can start to make some decent scores. Then I may apply for a handicap and start trying to play properly, you're videos have inspired me to be honest, so thank you very much and I look forward to watching all your videos in the future. Nice one guys. After 20 odd years its only been the last few months i have started actually hitting it straight (ish) and predictably. Now I’m faced with this confusing land of the middle of the fairway and with hitting my irons fairly consistently having to actually think about distances, etc I am shooting about 90 on a rough day from previous 100-110 And just the basic approach of facing a hole with “Use 2-3 shots to get on” then two putt is quite liberating cos we all visualize the shots from TV

Played for par after my first shot. This put less pressure on my drive which resulted in an improvement off the tee. Also stopped me trying to hid drives too far. A 180 yard drive on a par 4 meant that i had 4 shots for the remaining 166 yards. Mentally this really helped me and reduced the number of double bogies I made and also increased my pars. Went from shooting in the mid to high 90's to the low 80's in the space of a summer

There was a subtle hint on the par 3...an easier swing for better ball contact. Swinging out of my boots is the cause for every one of my bad shots. Except for my ADD which causes me to lose focus from time to time. If I repeat "80%" to myself at address, I've found it to be the best swing thought to have.

Earlier this season I was playing really strong golf then out of no where I just started shanking every iron regardless of what I tried. I decided to go play an executive par 3 to try and take out possible mental sabatage of distance breaking my concentration of just hitting it cleanly. I played really well on the par 3 and felt a lot more confident with my swing. Fast forward a couple days later to a full round, played nicely on the first couple holes then just blew up shooing a 48. The back 9 I adjusted a couple things mainly putting my driver away and generally just playing safer shots and clubbing up, 4 pars and 5 boggies ending the back with a 41. Just snuck in an 89 but it felt great. I firmly believe a 6th point would be to remain calm, another shot is inevitable and letting missed shots rattle you will only lead to more terrible shots.

Can you do another "break" whatever score video? I consistently shot 80's but can't quite get consistent in the 70's yet can you give me tips to stay out of my head? What I should be focused on, how I should be acting or reacting to good or bad shots. I think mentally I screw my self a lot but also it's small things like chunking a chip shot. Just some tips would be good to hear

Maybe next year or this year ill break 100. Good to think ahead about 90. Golf is good to be more social off and on the golf course. Also its good to play when I get really old for some private community based fun in my hometown. Also a good way to stay culturally relevant for decades. Its a fun game. People can strive for excellence if they really want to. Good for entrepreneurs, retired, university students, professionals and also office workers. Sports is good for everybody. People should find one that fits them the best. Like tennis, soccer, running, curling and ect for community based fun free from political activism and violence. Also something really fun to chat about at work in the cubicle or with your sport friends and so called "competitors". Its a good hobby. I wish GolfTV is on Amazon Prime Video in my country.

Hi Piers and Andy - thanks to your video on how to break 100 I hit my best ever round of 94 today. Went 52 then 42 - I only play once a week and the first shot I hit all week is my drive on the first hole, so I feel like I spend the front 9 every week warming up! Was wondering - is it best to maybe just accept a bogey bogey start by hitting 5 irons off the tee to make sure I get the ball in play but also to warm my swing up?

Thanks to advice from you guys and and spending more time on the course, I broke 90 for the first time (89) in my life which was awesome. My iron play and decision making have improved drastically due to the great tips I get from you both. Keep up the great work so hopefully this summer I can post on your "5 tips to break 80" video, haha. Also, do you still do swing anylisis? How would I go about getting a video to you for submission?

Broke 90 today. Put it down to an in to out path with driver and mastering square grip, standing taller, being more aware of target line and path of club, setting posture before setting my distance from ball, better setup routine in general, maintain connection with ground with right foot, engaging abs, keeping head behind ball.. Simple really

Broke 100 today. Scored a 96. So now I need to bring that down. I stopped using my driver except on long par 4s and long par 5s. 3 uses all round. And I improved 8 strokes. Thanks for the advice.

Anyone else find that their "favorite club" changes throughout the season? This past season I was great with the Driver, 5 Iron, and Sand Wedge, but all were good at different points in the season. I was unable to keep all of those clubs consistent throughout the year and instead of having a few that I was hitting well they seemed to rotate. It's odd, but I had rounds were I could not miss a green from 50-80 yards out with the SW and I was borderline arrogant when I pulled that club, but by the end of the year I was leaving those shots short, pushing them long, or hitting them left and right of the green.

Every golf range that I go to has a short game area. The range could be full and there wouldn’t be one person in the short game area or the putting green. Most high handicappers can get to within 10-30 yards of the green in 3 to 4 strokes on a par 4. What usually happens is they pitch it short, chip it on then two putt. That’s 4 more strokes for a 7. So my advice is to spend equal time in the short game area and then equal time on the putting green that you do on the range. Most short game areas have bunkers as well so it’s a good place to practice that also. You can turn those 3 to 4 extra strokes into 2 for bogeys. Play bogey golf with a few pars here and there, maybe an occasional double and you can still break 90. Get rid of those dreaded 3 putts, skulled or chunky bunker shots, chunky chips, fat pitches and shave strokes off the scorecard.
