Great tips! Love that you don’t retake the shots even though they didn’t go according to plan (which is golf anyway). One thing is it would have been nicer to have seen these with the shot tracers. Still great tips and ones that we really need to remember and follow

Thank you both for the time, effort and delivery style. Much appreciated. What people forget is that as amateurs we dont turn up with same stuff twice😀. The aim is to enjoy the golf and the surroundings along with social chat. What turns up, turns up. Your tips trigger good golf course management through years of experience and coaching. If we get three good shots in a round, that`s the memory. Keep up the good work..

Thanks Brian. Glad this was useful. I am not sure any golfer turns top with the same thing twice😂. Course management is such a key part and can really make it much more enjoyable too. Plus, all it needs is some different decisions.

Tip #6: don't automatically grab the driver on every par 4 or par 5, especially if you struggle to put the driver in play. Don't be afraid to hit 3 wood, 5 wood or a hybrid on the shorter holes when there is a lot of trouble off the fairway.
@MrMikeT89

Great tip! There's a par 5 that I used to struggle with using driver/woods. With a 6 or 7 iron, I can get there in 3/4 shots with relative ease
@joegiammatteo
@joegiammatteo 2 жыл бұрын
My rebuttal to this is always “if I’m going to hit a bad shot out of play, what’s the difference between hitting a bad wood or hybrid shot out of play and a bad driver shot out of play?”

I fell out of love with the driver last year and always use 4i or above depending how to split hole
@leemzgoogle917
@leemzgoogle917 2 жыл бұрын
@@joegiammatteo In my experience, a bad shot with the driver is generally way worse than a bad shot with a hybrid. It's sort of like when you're just off the green and trying to decide whether to chip it or putt it. Generally, your worst putt will be better than your worst chip. So, if being off the fairway just means hitting from the rough, I'm all in favor of hitting the driver and having that extra distance. But if missing the fairway means being in a fairway bunker, thick trees or a water hazard then I'm going to pick a club that gives me a much better chance of finding the fairway even if it costs me some distance.
@leemzgoogle917
@leemzgoogle917 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrMikeT89 Exactly. Years ago when I struggled with my driver there was a par 5 that I played in my after-work league that always gave me trouble. It was tight with heavy woods on the left and OB on the right. But after some quick math I realized I could actually reach that green pretty easily by hitting three 7-irons. From that time on, I started to easily make par and virtually never made worse than a bogey and I took double-bogey or worse completely out of the equation.

Piers and Andy how high should I be teeing a wood? Obviously I can't hit the ball as far as you on a par 3. My heaven wood usually goes 150 metres and my 5 iron only about 120 metres. It's always great to watch you guys. I've joined the break something, so I will be trying to break 100 in the next 6 weeks.

RE Tip #5. If you aim left to battle a slice, you have to actually set up on a target line to that left target, take dead aim at it, and commit to that shot! Your normal ball shape will take care of the rest. Too often, high handicap slicers will set up square to the middle, then turn themselves toward that left target. What have they done? Set up even more of an out to in swing, and caused even more of a slice! I used to do this so much!!! 😜You have to set up and commit like you are trying to hit a straight shot at that left hand target. Yes, sometimes you will hit that straight shot. So try and pick a target you can live with if you hit to it. Try not to aim it OB. Speaking from experience here. 😉 But most of the time, you'll fade/slice it back in play. And oddly enough, your slice will probably start to become not as severe once you get good at this. Because you'll have straightened out your swing path a bit.

Awesome video. Do y'all by chance happen to have already made one on adding spin to full shots? On approach the other day a playing buddy of mine asked me how far my rollout is. I said simply, "however long the green is after my ball hits it". I can't stick em. I hit the distance I want, but no matter where I land the ball, it rolls off the green. Frustrating.

@Iain. Good players rarely hit full shots with any club but never with short irons. When was last time you saw a good player at your club swing so hard he lost balance. When was last time you saw a high handicapper loose balance trying to hit a PW 100yards, cause they have seen someone do it on you tube. You can break 90 by consistently hitting a PW 70 to 80 yards.

While these are great tips, I'd love to see data that talks about struggles of golfers in the 90-100 range. For me, the single best thing I can do to break 90 is to get it in the fairway off the tee. Way too many shots are lost from OOB balls, having to punch out (and not make compound mistakes doing so), etc. As a mid 90s golfer, I know if I can just get it in the fairway off the tee, I can shave at least 5 strokes off my game. Now to practice getting consistent off the tee....

Hi, tip 3: your heel line was aligned to the bunkers… shame the camera was not down the line so we viewers could clearly see your mistake. A shot tracer would be great 👍 Tip 5: not sure I agree. I’m a bogey player and I can’t always predict my shot shape. It starts as a draw and becomes a fade and then a slice as the round progresses and tiredness creeps in…

Do this: Play shots you know you can do, avoid risks. Practice putting, bumb'n'runs and short pitches around the greens. Easy to break 100. All those OB and waterballs are the difference between a 100 and a 120 shots player.

Good tips. I never use a tee on a par 3. You can't tee your irons in the fairway, so why on the par 3? That would require you to adjust your swing, whether you do it consciously or not. Also, you tip about playing your ball flight. I was hitting a bit of an over draw, not quite a hook, but turning more than I wanted it to. On the 3rd hole I told myself, "well if you're going to hit the ball that way, just adjust the target". Lined up on the left side of the box. aimed to the right side of the fairway, and hit the straightest ball in the world, right into the woods! LOL! So, you want to fix your ball flight? Just aim at the trouble, you'll get there every time! Just can't take this game too serious. Just have fun with your buddies! JM2C

My course requires the use of tees of the greens. They take too much damage if, say, 50% of players didn't. Just tee low. Two fingers around the ball and tee, press down a bit hard and you got that 1 cm required.

Hi Robin. If you are a slicer then your ball finishes right. You need to aim left. This video is about managing your game to get it in play. Fixing the slice is left for the range. A mistake that golfers make is trying to fix things out in a competitive round.
