Pararena was such a staple of my childhood. There's a number of games that I look back on and wish I still had a way to play and Pararena is one of the big ones. The feel of it-riding around the arena, shooting the ball at the hole, clanging against the opponent-was so on point. And gotta love the announcer at the beginning "Par! Ah! Reeena!" like it's some sort of major WWE match or something.

Try using the Macintosh emulator VMac. I use it for (Beyond) Dark Castle, The Colony and a lot of other old games.

OMG thank you for this video - Pararena was a long-forgotten game in my brain until now. Also, POWERBALL!! Wow I saw this as a kid and had never been able to find it until now. What a trip!!

One of the things I really love about old 1-bit classic mac games is how many of them used custom digitized sound effects, since the Mac had a system call for playing them. Mouth explosions, public domain NASA clips, etc. make for a hilarious experience.

It was absolutely the wild west as far as sound effect use went.

I don't understand how such an exceptional channel like this doesn't have at least 500,000 subscribers! I've been here since 4k, I hope to see this grow a lot, congratulations and keep it up

I love this stuff. I grew up with my dad’s old B&W mac as my first computer. I recently picked up an old Quadra 610 on craigslist and I’m hoping to fix it up and install some classic Mac games on it to enjoy with my kids. Almost everything for the system is abandonware these days so I should have a fun time going through the available library on mac garden

Christ Adventures of Sean. Played that to death as a kid, alongside that entire era of Hypercard indie games. There was a really awesome pocket of time where every week it felt like a new Hypercard adventure game would drop, and some of them were just amazing. All the Prism Software games, not just their Average Joe series, but they built like a _full-blown Dragon Quest game out of Hypercard_ it was _wild._ My main memory of Adventures of Sean is just how it starts. Super hilarious and sorta a showcase on how amateur the game design was for some of those games in the best way possible. The alarm clock is going off and the entire screen is black. So you will sit for like a minute, without direction, clicking wildly on the screen to find the clock. Without even context of what you're supposed to be doing. So the fist part of the game is literally a black screen with an alarm sound not stopping. No idea if you had a defective game, or something went wrong. Just wild clicking to find the spot where the clock is. It's the worst possible way to open a game, and yet it's done so earnestly it's hard to get mad at it. Like it's so obviously just one guys project, it's hard not to be in on how stupid the joke is.

Only one I knew was Pararena. I was always so horrible at it. Good sound design too, hits felt impactful and sharp.

Paraena was the only one i recognised, i think there was a sequel also. from memory the game would crash if u try to run it on newer systems. but do remember playing it with my brother on our Mac Classic in the early 90s :)

Lunar Phantom kind of reminds me of Space Cab but with more varied and interesting scenes. Looks like it's a hoot.

My computer lab in elementary school had a section that had 1 of every model of computer they had bought over the years. Some old macs, some machines I didn't recognize, 1 machine using DOS. All in like, 2002. It was neat. I forgot all about it.

All the way to 2002? That's wild, I think all my schools had moved to PCs by then!

The rotation to use the bottom thruster would make that much more difficult than those with the side thrusters.

1995ish? Mac Plus support??? Why was I not notified of this back in the day as I perused the alleys of a "Crazy Irving's Le Fou" in downtown Montreal at its Phillips Square location while I was flipping through the aging shareware diskette bins for Mac

I remember really enjoying your old video on the Adventures of Sean. The art in that game was just so charming. Does that video still exist? I wanted to show a friend, but couldn't find it

Thought I had that one in a playlist here on the channel but I'll have to add it. It's been unlisted since I moved the Mac stuff to this channel. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emKQdIFvYrGol5Y

Maybe you can help me find an edutainement game where you mix chemical like cement and glue. I think it was for an old mac, I rememeber colors on screen and it must have been 1984. I found every game I have ever played but not this software. It is important to me because it is the first time I saw and interracted witha computer.
@insanelygruz Жыл бұрын
Hmm... I don't recall a game like that tho I was never big into edutainment. There weren't color Macs back then so maybe an Apple II or IIGS game?
