Thank you for showing this in a notebook. And not iPad or similar. Paper free is great but not everyone can afford it and a lot of students still use paper and the best we can do for now is dream of paper free while we still actually need to improve study methods. So this video makes these methods accessible for a greater majority. Plus it alleviates the idea that we need expensive products in order to be productive.

I have an iPad and apple pencil but still prefer taking notes and learning from paper. I feel like I remember it better + it really hurts your eyes and your head starting at a screen all day and very up close. Plus writing on paper just feels nice imo

Going paper-free isn’t as sustainable as people often think. Paper is a completely renewable resource and is completely recyclable. That means that we can reuse the paper we use over and over again and we can plant trees to replace the ones used for paper. Electronics like iPad and laptops, on the other hand, are often made with many types of rare metals that are found by mining (which by the way, is usually terrible for the environment) and which are completely not recyclable. This means that most if not all the parts of your iPads and laptops will end up in the landfill even if you bring them to a recycling center. Please pass this information around, especially to people who suggest to you that they are going paper-free for the environment. Going paper-free can reduce clutter and (possibly) make you more organized, but it isn’t “great” as it encourages the purchase of electronics that are really quite terrible for the earth. We should be consuming non-sustainable tech at a bare minimum, and thankfully paper is a sustainable option for many types of needs, like note-taking.

Emma MacDonald I agree completely what you said about how electronic buying is not great for the environment however the other parts that go along with this method also produce waste. Just think about how many pens, pencils, highlighters, plastic folders/dividers that people use when taking note with paper. I’m currently upgrading from an iPad Air (had for 4 years) to the new iPad Pro and I believe that this device will benefit me greatly as I will continue to use it in my studies for the next 4-6 years. And before anyone says anything “YOU DO YOU”. I’m not pushing the paper free lifestyle on anyone here im just elegising to the fact that no one can be completely sustainable 😃

Recovering Soul um I feel like physical notes and that sort of thing is lost more easily. You can save files into the cloud and as long as you use the same account you can access them from practically any device and for a long time. I can’t imagine the amount of important notes and books I’ve lost while moving house or just over time.

@@usamarafieck1715 our teacher told about it. It's not exactly the same, obviously. But in the index, you write the symbol for the respective information and then use the symbols throughout the textbook. Very easy and practical.

Im definitely going to use the Morse code method for future readings! I always hated using highlighters (in my textbooks or readings) but I also disliked taking notes as I read; I felt like it disrupted my flow. This method is so efficient!

I'm a law student and I take all my notes with the "flow method" and i honestly cannot imagine a better way to take notes in classes, especialy since so much information is connected and multy level. It's my absolutely favourite method that I've been using since grammar school and It is also really easy to study from them. Love the video

I use all of these based on the topic. With the morse code method, I write A (assertion) and R (reasoning) instead next to the lines. With Pathology and internal medicine, this has been super useful, as these are the most extensive subjects in medicine for me.

I LOVE drawing a line in the middle of my page and taking outline notes with two columns! Always hated wasting space when doing outline notes and as soon as I realized I could do this I never looked back! Also useful for lessons where u only need half a page for all the general info!

I have observed that peole working on such channels have those aesthetic or beautiful handwriting, but what i love about her is that she has not those aesthetic handwriting but still is running the channel like butter... I love the fact she's is not one of the kind who uses a LOT of stationery and all, she's simple and that makes her attractive and unique.. It's good to hear of alternative approaches to note taking. It seems that almost everyone keeps repetitively speaking about the same tired methods, as if they are the only ones that work. I have an idea for people who like the flow notes method but find it hard to study off of/understand days later. Take the flow notes during the class/lecture, and then after (while the info is retained and you understand your notes), make a neat, structured, version of the notes. It doesn't need to be anything fancy. It does take a bit of time to redo your notes, but you can understand your notes, study off of them, and make sense of them later. It's worth the effort, I promise.

I have done split page, morse code (a little different tho, I shift my reading to the left of my page so there is a space on the right, I write key word & vocabulary next to paragraph and instead of highlighting a huge block of paragraph, I highlight the side of the paragraph), flow notes throughout the years and have helped me. The point of notes is to be able to read what you wrote almost immediately. If your notes are hard to read, you may need to change the way your note structure work.

The flow note system would be so helpful for my discussion based class because we often start with one topic and go off in tons of different directions and talk about different things but connect them back to the original idea/point we were focusing on (Theory of Knowledge course for the IB students out there) it’s completely unstructured and sometimes I feel like I forget everything we talked about because I don’t take any notes

Flow note taking is the best when doing calculations! For as long as I’ve been doing math it’s been the way my mind processes and understands the steps in calculations and it’s the best way to not get confused when you get to Calc 3 or differential equations or doing a Quantum hw problem lolol

I highly recommend flow notes during class as they are fast to make and help you make connections in the content using keywords making it easier to remember although you might want to write them out differently later as they can get messy

The split page method works well because of how your brain structures things. The shorter width keeps things more condensed, and your brain can “see” the entire paragraph or phrase without having to scan with your eyes.

I've done some experiments with yet another method of making notes for problem solving and idea creation - here's a short summary. I use the following three building blocks, which I can combine in different ways. Building block 1 - the sheet layout: I use an A4 sheet in landscape format and divide it in 3x3 boxes of equal size - there's no need for exactness and I do it without a ruler. Alternatively, I can use 3 columns and make boxes of different sizes - but at the beginning, 3x3 boxes are easier to handle. I fill the boxes in column 1, then in column 2 and then in column 3. Building block 2 - the box layout: I use each box for a simple small mind map. The size limit of the box will come as a surprise, but it has a number of advantages which I will describe in a moment. Instead of mind maps, I can use diagrams, ordinary text with indentations or math terms. Building block 3 - thinking tools: I can use thinking tools as topics for the small mind maps, to stimulate my thinking about the problem, like: What are key questions? What are my options? How can I split the problem into smaller parts? I find a personal collection of thinking tools very useful - I have a corkboard over my work table and can access dozens of tools and stimuli with one glance. For me, this process has four main advantages. First, a conventional mind maps works best with a couple of main branches of equal size. In problem solving however, I often want to develop only one or two branches over many steps, and this leads to an unsymmetrical, unbalanced mind map. Secondly, moving from one box to the next needs a moment of orientation - where do I stand, and what can I do next? This re-orientation happens much more often in the 3x3 layout than in an ordinary mind map. Thirdly, I find it easier to reflect on a previous thought in a new box than in a branch of an ordinary mind map. Fourth, the combination of mind maps and thinking tools seems very powerful to me. Some remarks: Depending on handwriting size, paper size and personal taste, we can experiment with 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 boxes. As a fourth building block I'm using a zettelkasten to organize my sheets - but that's outside the scope of this comment.

But the company have anbothers categories, as day schedule, notebooks and so on.
