Q takes on g5, if pawn takes g5 then Rf7 check, no matter if King takes on h6 or moves on h8, it's Rh7 mate. If black doesn't take with pawn on g5, King can move on f8, it's mate with Qg8, or King can move on Kh8, then it's mate with Nf7.

Spoilers (if I got it right) I’m thinking 1.Qxg5 fxg5 2.Rf7 Kxh6 (or Kh8) 3.Rxh7 mate If black refuses the sacrifice with 1. … Kf8, then 2. Qg8 is mate. Finally, if 1. … Kh8, then Nf7 is mate. Very cool!

1. Qxg5. After 1... Kf8 2. Qg8# and after 1... Kh8 2. Nf7#, so Black has to take 1... fxg5. This opens the f-file for the rook, so White proceeds 2. Rf7+. Black has two legal moves (2... Kh8 and 2... Kxh6) that both run into 3. Rxh7#.

Actually, in the first example, the position will not only leave black with an extra rook, but also one of the bishops since white can't defend both. After the king moves, black captures the queen and now threatens to capture both bishops. And you can't defend them both.

game 1 had a classic back rank weakness. I was looking for mate with white B and rook when I found Q sac. Game 2 back rank again. Game 3 I would have missed, Game 4 is pretty obvious. Game 5 I found but only because I knew there was a Q sac.

Solution to 5th challenge :- Magnus Carlsen plays white queen to G5 killing the black knight there. This gives a check to the black king. The black pawn on F6 moves to kill the white queen on G5. Then white moves the rook on F1 to F7 to give a check to the black king. Black moves his king to H6 (killing the white knight or to H8 corner). Then white moves his rook from F7 to H7 to do check and mate.

Queen captures knight at g5. after the pawn takes the queen on g5, then place the rook on f7 square, king can't capture the rook because its defended by the knight on h6, so it has only one safe square which is h8, but after rook takes pawn on h7, it's checkmate, the king can't take the rook because its defended by the Bishob on c2.
