Coming back to your country after a year of living abroad, you might notice some cultural differences for the first time. Especially if you moved to the UK after spending 22 years in Greece.
So, in today's slow Greek lesson I would like to share with you some facts about Greece that I found weird after my first year in the UK.

When i went my first time in Greece in 80ies in Igoumenitza there was just one telephon in a periptero for calling abroad in Italy to say my parents i'm arrived and am good and it took 3 hours for the line. Now Greece is a very modern nation, it has changed so much, too much for me. Sometimes I prefered the old Greece. The time went more slowly than now (even if it is always nowdays a calm country) and all was always "endaxi"

When my family and I visited our ancestral homeland 20+ years ago and drove around the Peleponesos, my Aunt, who lives in Greece half of each year and came along with us, warned me that Greece put up traffic signs mostly to keep the Americans happy and that once outside the πόλεις, you couldn't be sure the locals were going to stop or not turn left or whatever, simply because there was a sign telling them to do so. One of the things I love about the country. BTW, I much enjoy the slow Greek and find it very helpful. Great idea and many thanks.

And the other way around. After living for 10 years in Greece and coming back to the UK, I found it difficult not having a periptero at the corner of the street! How to survive? I've just found your videos. I've been looking for Greek videos to advance my Greek and have a larger vocabulary. Listening to you speaking slowly is good to try to pick up a better Greek accent. Thank you.

Μια ακόμη πράγμα είναι το χρόνο: Sorry I switch to English hoping to ne more clear: in Greece people seem to bot live timing like in Italy i live in the North so something changes from the south: we are almost always running towards "something to do", that's what i relax soooo much during my greek holidays. Last thing, something that I regret a little is that it seem to me that from one hand Greek are so aware of the awesome nature, stunning θάλασσα καί βουνά and woods, but on the other side people there use a lot of "take away plastic", maby young people are different, in Italia too elder people are not so eco-friendly like younger. Anyway I love Greece, and I can't not wait to go back for my holiday there: I often travel alone, and I NEVER really felt alone there, Greeks always made me feel like home💙🤍.
