He was an insane basketball mind he was so good as the Pacers coach he def could’ve won a chip if not for Kobe and Shaq or if he just stayed with the Pacers

Don't forget about Lenny Wilkens, who was a Hall of Famer as an NBA player AND an NBA head coach. As a coach, Lenny Wilkens led the Seattle Supersonics to the NBA championship in 1979, and he won 1332 regular season games. What makes Lenny's coaching career more incredible is that he won lots of games without the help of talented superstars. Only 3 of his players that I know of made the Basketball Hall of Fame: Dennis Johnson (Supersonics), Jack Sikma (Supersonics) and Dikembe Mutombo (Atlanta Hawks). Lenny's teams were more often than not greater than the sum of their parts.

Since there can't be a HOF player that became a HOF owner we can't talk about Mario Lemieux. Doesn't happen often enough to have a list but Mario has won Stanley cups as both.

George Halas simultaneously owned the Chicago Bears and played for them in their early days. Whether he qualified as a HOF player is another matter. Also, Derek Jeter was a HOF baseball player. He could have made the HOF as owner of the Marlins, but he sucked at it.

Larry Bird in the NBA was absolutely a real bonafide superstar in Boston he was really a awesome player he's won NBA Titles with his opponent Ervin Magic Johnson and the Lakers both guys have had undeniable classic battles in the 1980's as well but when Mr.Bird playing days was done he went to coaching in the NBA with Indiana Pacers which by the way Larry Bird played college basketball at Indiana State University 1st Round 2nd overall pick 1979 NBA Draft but while he was coaching Mr.Bird took the Pacers to the NBA Finals for the 1st time ever in the history of the franchise in the 1999-00 season there opponent was none other then Phil Jackson Koby Bryant and Shaquille O'Neil and the Los Angeles Lakers but in the end Lakers won the title but Legendary Larry Bird will always have always was and always will be a icon with the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers as well 10:22

Jerry West was a HOF player and executive, but he couldn’t quite cut it as a coach. That may be because he left coaching just before the Lakers got Magic Johnson.

Iron Mike Ditka was not only amazingly a great Hall Of Famer at TE but he became amazing as a excellent coach while in 1985 the Bears had one of the best if not the most dominating defense in the 1980's winning a Super Bowl Championship beating the Patriots 46 to 10 3:00

Torre could have been in the horrible category considering how the first half of his managerial career went. The horrible Mets teams of the 1970s, did well in his three years with Atlanta in the 1980s, and a so-so stint with the Cardinals in the early to mid-90s. Then it all came together when he got to the Bronx.

Ted Williams was a really good manager, he just had lousy teams, joe Torre had the loaded Yankees, Ted could really communicate with his players, and actually improved the senators when he took them over, got them over .500, and back then the only playoff was the world series, you had to have the best record in your league to win the pennant, a lot harder to get in. You didn't go into it because you know you're wrong.

As a Yankees fan since birth it'll kill me to say this. Joe Torre sticks out like a sore thumb here. While a good baseball player he didn't get into the Hall of Fame because of his time as a baseball player he got in because of his time as Yankee manager. That is the only reason he's in the Hall of Fame.

I also forgot Jerry West, like Larry bird, short but really good coaching career, took the Lakers to a division title, retired because he couldn't handle the stress of coaching, but became a hall of fame executive.

In my opinion, Mike did cow will always be the greatest head coach of all time who led the Bears to their first and only Super Bowl with of course the famous 1985 Bears defense still to this day what many people say is the greatest defense of all time with Hall of Famer like Mike Singletary, Richard Dent and Walter Payton and they only lost one game in the regular season
