Never thought about turning hips over during an arcing kick to make it more like a roundhouse, but I have been practicing kicks in the clinch since right before Justin vs Khabib. Justin brought it to my attention, when you roundhouse kick the leg you're pretty close anyway and when you do it in the clinch, you're close enough to land the kick with the thicker part of the shin more easily
@AveSicarius
@AveSicarius 2 жыл бұрын
Have you ever looked at the Kyokushin kicks from the clinch? They are probably the best at headkicking from this position anyway, and many can throw legitimate roundhouses (though you need to angle it up and throw from a more upright position like a Thai kick) from point-blank range, even on taller opponents. You can also use axe, hook, and crescent kicks to achieve a similar effect, but for that OHKO power, the angled roundhouse is king!

Im pretty damn 25 years staunchly convinced that a crescent kick is a complete " Dillman no touch knockout" BS that fighters have to learn the hard way for themselves, hopefully not getting too injured in that moment of truth. The rest of it , are 4 kicks i would have *never never* even seen coming, amazing stuff, Dewey is an incredible teacher . Refer to his amazing recent ( SUPER close range) head kick KO video, that is wayyyy shorter range than i have encountered for head high upstairs shin kicks . And TKD is my base martial art ( sorry Dewey, yes thats a friendly dig)😀🙏

A trick I like to add to this technique is if I’m throwing the right leg, While in the clinch I’ll push his head with my right hand to my left, as I release my right hand from his head his natural tendency is to push his head back to his left, automatically moving his head back towards my kicking leg.

@@RamseyDewey while i got you here i had a couple questions for the q&a, would shadowboxing with ankle/wrist weights be beneficial to increase power? I know the force vector of gravity is perpendicular to the force of a punch or kick, but still, adding weight to the end of the limb means it takes more force to achieve the same acceleration. Or would this mess up your timing and technique too much? Also is the philly shell viable in a scenario with little or no gloves? Like in self defense completely bare knuckle for example? Thanks and God bless!

I love the inside Mawashigeri kick, but you use the outside of the foot rather than the toes pulled back. It's like getting a mean slap from a leg into the side of the face and neck. Plus, if you've got a nice little snap twist at the end, it makes the kick even more effective with less energy spent. Wish I could show you Ramsey. I'm so envious of you that you get to spar every single day. That was my passion before I had to leave for London. I miss sparring so much, I get teared up just writing this.

I live in a city with a VERY transient population. In the last 12 years I’ve trained a handful of fighters who I am certain could have been world champions- but they moved to other cities for better employment opportunities because at the end of the day, everyone needs to eat, and then fight game doesn’t always pay the bills. That being said, I have trained one WBA Asia women’s boxing champion.

great tutorial, however 8 minutes, there is a trick / way / technique to break posture kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYO0koqEm7WIpZIm rest elbows on his shoulders / body, palms rather high on the back of the head, force from the back of the head downwards towards the top and slightly forward, then simply push the head down ... I have practiced the sports version of MuayThai in the past ... there is also a way to keep the posture, my English is weak, so I do not know whether to describe it, in addition, if someone knows what I wrote above, unfortunately, on one side you have to reveal the ribs, but the truth is that the lighter blows are more dangerous. you won't have time to read it and you can survive a strike on the ribs, but you have to see it and, for example, be able to do push-ups on one hand parallel to the floor, then the intercostal oblique muscles are stronger ...

One problem with kicks from a clinch is that unless you have a firm grasp of your opponent to create LEVERAGE and STATION with which to force the kick, there is no power to it. Only push which could be a good setup for a 'takedown' into groundwork. Another is that if a person knows how to catch a kick above the waist, the opponent can reverse that and turn it into a trap, into a takedown and groundwork. If the kicker has no groundwork skill or is not ready to go to the ground, they are in trouble. Lastly, the kick BELOW the knee or (short roundhouse, stamp kick or even hook kick) is nearly impossible to block and is a sure takedown in a clinch. It's really the only thing that works in that situation and everything else is high percentage with the best outcome being a takedown. A high kick from a clinch is in no way a knockout blow with the odd case of a good, hyper-flexible kicker (many women are good at this) who can load up against a guy who will not clinch. It's usually a fast, snappy crescent kick or a roundhouse where the kicker only leans back to deliver the blow. Yes...we've drilled this scenario a lot in my practice and have looked at the pros and cons to this move. The most common one is a knee to the floating rib or gut while using the clinch for leverage. That can be blocked or caught. Keep up the good work, Ramsey.

Thanks for the breakdown coach. I will be practicing this later. It reminds me of a sword exercise where one simply raises their arm and sword above the head using the lightest of effort until its straight up and then letting it fall only using its own weight with minimal force cause it to slash down with exceptional force. Over and over again one must do this, even without a weapon. similar to old wax on wax off

I’ve never used a makiwara. I’ve played with a nook jong, but I don’t know how it’s intended to be used. As far as bags go, there are a lot of different types with a lot of different uses: heavy bags (including banana bags, teardrop bags, uppercut bags, etc) speed bags, double end bags, kangaroo bags, round-a-whirl bags, the maize ball, reflex bags, spinning bar bags... I’ve even see a bag with robot arms that punches back! They all have their own uses.

Probably incidental damage to fingers and toes- that would be the most common training injury I see. The best way to avoid serious injuries is to take your strength and conditioning and flexibility training seriously. Take your sleep schedule seriously. Take your diet seriously. Hi Ramsey, just wondering if there is an advantage over just elbowing to the face in a clinch, which feels much safer and faster.

Set ups for elbows from double collar ties are different. If you have a clear opening for an elbow and you are close enough, of course, take it- and if you don’t, try something else.

I love this clinch method I use this kick alot I usually let go of the clinch and strike with a simultaneous elbow as the kick connects from the other side so if the try and pull away they move into the elbow and if they dont they move into the kick

Well, apparently I'm more than capable of this, which impresses me cause less than a year ago... I really never bothered practicing any above-waist kicks. Thanks, Coach, the range control from being proficient is nice; now I can add this to my Muay/dirtybox clenchwork - in danger of becoming a well rounded fighter, lol

If you even just add some basic kicking drills above the waist (dynamic stretching, slow kicking to build up the hip flexors, and so on), even without supplementary passive stretching you can achieve pretty decent height in your kick's. This is basically how Firas Zahabi trains his fighters, and while I think passive stretching is important to understand your flexibility, to get perfect ROM, and just for general health benefits, you can absolute headkick without being able to do the splits, especially using a more frontal movement like an axe or crescent kick. It's defend worth learning, it opens up your options massively in regards to offense, especially because noone ever expects the clinch headkick! Should you throw it in a street fight with jeans and an icy floor, no probably not, but if you are good enough at kicking, you can make it work in many situations.
