I like the way you approach all of this, you are appreciative of our culture while not trying to take over and claim it as your own. You are so welcome in the Filipino community because of this, we love seeing a respectful foreigner have genuine interest and love for our culture and people. I brought this up because when i read the title i was like ummm is he now gonna tell me as a Filipino what makes me a Filipino as an American?? But after watching it shows that you are careful not to step outside of what it means to be a foreigner in the Philippines, you can become one of the people but never forget your roots. We actually embrace those who have their own unique story and i can't speak for all but i know a lot of Filipinos wouldn't want you to change who you truly are deep down because you coming from your own country to live in and embrace ours is a special part of your story that we all appreciate. Much love

After reading this back I don’t like the word foreigner but I meant to just say someone who wasn’t born into a Filipino family or born in the country. You aren’t a foreigner to us you are like family ❤️

Unlike many other 'expat' Utube videos that put the Philippines down, most that have been here '5 minutes'🤣. One of the other things that amazes me continually is the language/culture differences from province to province here, even for the locals. Keep the POSITIVE Utube videos up about the Philippines bro.🤙

Thank you for this entertaining video. I was born in the US @ 100% Filipina.1) I don't eat rice too often anymore. I had it every day until I was 16-years-old, so now I'm tired of it. 2) I prefer not to be in the sun! It's too hot, causes accidents, sunburn, cancer, etc 3) My brother, uncles, and dad walked around w/ their shirts up and stomachs out 4) No sandals, nor house shoes EVER. Barefoot here! 5) Your gestures are spot on! This video is too funny.

I'm gonna share this Dean! Hahaha 😂😂😂 Here in Miami I was with my other filipino friends, hanging out in the South Beach. Then, as filipino of course we speak in Tagalog diba?!! So what happened is I did the gesture of lip pointing to point to my friends where is the washroom located. 😅😅😊 A white girl and a black girl saw me and asked me "Hey dude, what's with that gesture? You want to kiss us Asian?" (Yes they called me "asian") I told them, "No! I'm just pointing the washroom to my friend over there. That is how we FILIPINOS point things." The girls went like "woow amazing" and they laughed and at the end of the day, We became friends!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Of course I am a filipino and I am friendly. ❤❤❤

Pare, use white umbrella or silver with black out fabric (like the one used for blackout curtains) inside for 100% protection, if it's available there. The light color deflects the sun rays and cools you down, the blackout lining blocks the rest of the sunlight that can still pass your umbrella.

Second one, umbrella is definitely a life saver when that sun it’s blasting on you like a debt collector! 😂😂. Third one was too funny coz my uncles all did that when I was growing up!! Regarding tsinelas, even my American husband knows that word already. And last is the lip pointing! My husband always imitates me when I do that and he always gets a crack out of it! Thank you Dean, you are truly learning the true Filipino ways. ❤❤

Hi Joe. I just tuned in and discovered you here in Northern VA. You’re a class act. I love how vivacious your podcast is. I can see you have taken on the hakuna matata Filipino attitude. Lived in the STL for a NY minute and 😮the racism there IS so 1950’s. I had a black boyfriend and I feel that he was more racist than anyone. It was constant either black or white… and I am like, “ What about me🤦🏻♀️?” The answer I got was I AM NOT COUNTED. My comeback to that was, oh well ( no worries), I still loved him. Keep on the vibe. I am already a FAN! I will seek you out to get an autograph and a “SELPEE” 😉. Loved how you put in the umbrella thing…it’s all over Asia. PLEASE ask any Filipino what ethnicity they are…it’s 💯❗️-- I AM ASIAN. So, when I was told that I kinda do not matter in STL and why we don’t go to protests… my answer was a true fact… BECAUSE we are BUSY WORKING AS DOCTORS AND NURSES, CAREGIVERS while ya’ll making noice. I believe in expressing oneself freely. However, make it substantive not just shout. Believe me, the Filipino culture is so kind and humanitarian.

Doctor here. A Filipino living in Miami. BALIKTAD tayo. You are an american who lives in my country, I'm a filipino living and working in your country. Hahaha. Anyways, The prevalent vitamin D thing about 6-9 am is a hoax. Vitamin D is endogenous in our body. The only thing we want are the amount of UV rays just enough to stimulate inactive vitamin D in our body (the 25-hydrocholecalciferol) to make it active form (1-25 dihydrocholecalciferol). Staying at 10am-3pm where the heat sun is at its peak will do more harm than good. It may cause your skin to dehydrate and of course your internal water in your body and your inactive vitamin D might deplete. Look at the people in the middle east where the sun is so hot, most of the people there lacks active Vitamin D, thus insufficiency in that vitamin which renders them to take vitamin D supplements. Because diet alone cannot supplement their inadequacy. That's all.

1:34 Eh.... Spaghetti on rice... Not my thing but people can like what they like 7:00 I would suggest both umbrella and cap with sunglasses. 7:54 we don't really care about the body thing. You're right on cooling thing. I personally dont have my belly out. Its just a personal thing 9:45 sandals are life. Personally for me. I go for Crocs. Always off-road mode. Sandals tend to break if they are worn out. Plus you don't stub your toe with Crocs. 12:12 also. Shorts. When you go out. You tend to just wear shorts 13:06 pointing is considered rude because people would think you are plotting something bad against someone. It's considered as a threatening gesture. You can still point at a location. But not a person. Unless they're very far away. 14:19 you just need to call the name out. One specific calling isnt really a thing. We just ask for the person. Calling out the name then asking if said individual is home or not. Each people do their own thing 15:19 the beckoning with one finger is also a threatening gesture. 16:32 the kissy lips depends on how loud the environment is. Sometimes it doesn't really work if it's very noisy. Only works when nearby or is quiet. 17:15 the hiss is a type of warning indication. Rather than yelling. Yelling still happens but that's usually second to the last. You may guess what the last one is.

Hey man. My first time seeing one of ur videos. Great stuff. Question? Do you get stomach aches much and what do you do to minimize getting them? Boiling all drinking water? Avoid certain foods? Just curious..I'll be leaving Cali early next year for Davao. Love the food, love the markets but some expats get sick every fee months.

How to tell a filipino house... If you see a sign that says "ice for sale" or pasa load, or gcash here. When you see a selecta ice cream bucket as a dog food pan.if you see a timba at tabo in the bath room. If you see a selecta ice cream bucket in the freezer with fish in it. If you see alot of jollibee kiddie meal toys on display usually together with the prayer altar. If you see a gumbling cats or dogs or playing pool rug or frame on the wall. If you see a last supper frame in the dinning room.if you see a giant wooden spoon and fork on the wall
