In the summer of 2023, I paid for two sessions with a personal trainer, and we concentrated on hip and leg strengthening exercises, which I've been doing three times a week for 6 months now and Wow!!! That made huge improvements in my everyday life. I highly suggest the same for anyone entering into their 60s.

Yes, the standing exercises also very effective, just add a little bit of resistance to your ankles as you get stronger. Good luck!

Hi Ed, Thank you so much for these exercises! I am in my early sixties and a runner , which I came to quite late in life and noticed pain in one of my hips recently so this is just what I need to get myself stronger ! 🙏

I don't do exercises laying on the floor these days because of the trouble getting up and down and generally being uncomfortable on the floor. The only exercises I do regularly are ones that can be incorporated easily into daily life. The clam shell exercise is easy to do while sitting and I do slow side leg raises while leaning on the kitchen counter as the kettle boils. The best exercises are the ones you do...as they say.

I was recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hip .I was doing yardwork now bending over my hip hurts and pain runs down my leg If I lie down it goes away ..As long as I don't bend over I won't feel the pain shooting down my leg.Can I still do those exercises

Sorry to hear about your hip, but the exercises may help. I would make sure that the exercises don't cause any pain and start easy, with the clam shells and maybe see how your hip feels. Gaining strength will help your arthritis in the long run. Good luck!

Floor is better, but bed is okay (sometimes it can be too soft)

I started walking and my right hip and thigh hurts within 10 minutes. Should I continue to walk? I have osteopenia.

No, I would try to figure out why your hip and thigh are hurting first before you continue to walk more than 10 minutes. I will start off with basic stretching of your quadriceps and your hip muscles to see if that helps. Good luck 👍🏻

Need to do them in bed, not on the floor, or please offer standing or sitting exercises. The bridge exercise with shoulders off the sofa is too risky for most seniors, as back muscles and coordination are needed. Like presentation overall.
