As a Cards fan, if O'neill returns to his 2021 form this year it will feel like when a girl you really liked moves to a different city so you break up rather than do long distance, and then a while later you see that she has a new boyfriend, which is okay because you parted with her on good terms and you really do want the best for her, but at the same time it just makes you wonder what could've been, even if you still know that going your separate ways was the best decision for both of you.

As a catcher enjoyer, do you ever think that the catcher position is actually undervalued by the defensive spectrum? The career war leaderboard for catcher seems to lag way behind the other positions, and I feel like catchers never get MVP buzz.

Fwar is definitely better than bwar for catchers, but also catchers are just generally disadvantaged with WAR because most have fewer PA’s than other position players. So I’ve always preferred judging them relative to other catchers.

Part of it is that WAR is a volume stat and catchers play inherently less due to wear and tear. If you were to look at catchers in terms of fWAR/600 PA or fWAR/150 games played they’d rank higher.

I was also thinking Nolan would go off this year! I think he winds up in the 3 or 4 spot of that lineup and can find a lot of RBIs with guys like Edman and Donovan in front of him and have a bunch of runs with Goldy / Nado behind him
