As people from this region ( I am malaysian , from Borneo side) , since young we will always try to avoid getting soak wet under the rain, we believe we will get sick /fever easily because of the rain water....if we are getting wet due to rain, we make sure we take bath as soon as possible to avoid fever...

Bruneian here. I know I'm days late, but, welcome to Brunei. 😆 As a biker in Brunei, we always make jokes about the rain before we go for a ride. Some of us might refuse to ride, while there is always that 1 guy always said 'Why afraid of the rain? Rain is water, water is life'. And off we go. 😁

Brunei looks magical! I am sorry that Marisa suffered from hypo thermia in the tropics! I had a similar dilemma this year when Tiger Barb and I were traveling back from Quebec (not quite tropical). It was hot, and I got soaked through to my underpants. It was 33°C and I was shivering. I did a full strip down and change in a Dairy Queen parking lot! Live and learn, eh? Stay well. Watch you soon. I guess when you have oil in your shore, you don’t need (palm) oil on the ground. Brunei is small, it’s more than enough income to sustain. So what small land and nature they have, it was the right decision to have it be preserved. Which we are glad. For Malaysia, some balance has to be made between income and preserving nature. It’s just the way it is.
@2UpAndOverloaded4 ай бұрын
We absolutely agree! Malaysia has done a very good job of balancing just that. Thank you for your inside perspective! It is much appreciated!

Ahhh, didn't know you 2 lovebirds have reached, and left miri. Else I could've taken you out for breakfast! Lol... Riding/driving in brunei... Do you guys know the similarities with that experience between brunei and the UK? 1st is the zig zag lines on the road, did you notice those along the way? We don't have that in malaysia, and when I was in the US many years ago, I didn't see any either. But they have that in the UK! The 1st time I drove into brunei and I saw that, and I joked to my wife, am I supposed to maneuver according to those lines, zig zagging the car onward? Was the road marker guy drunk or high when painting those lines, or maybe he got distracted by a bee or something? 🤪🤪 And the 2nd (and 3rd) similarity is what you guys pointed out, there isn't a single stall by the roadside selling food, for a simple and quick meal like for breakfast or afternoon tea break or late night supper, and no roadside parking for easy stops! That's one of the big differences from malaysian cities and towns, and one of the things we sorely missed while staying in the UK for 1 year last year 😔 But we're already back in malaysia, and it is so simple to go for roti canai etc! 😊👍
@2UpAndOverloaded9 ай бұрын
🤣 definitely don't ride according to the zig-zag lines! That's hilarious! We didn't spend long in Brunei, and we couldn't even by gas there, but it was pretty to ride through. We are loving our time in this part of the world and can't wait to share everything that we have been up to! And we can't wait to see the zig-zag lines in the UK again! 🤣 That will surely make us laugh!

@@2UpAndOverloadedyou could definitely buy fuel, but only from designated stations, where they have a dedicated pump island just for vehicles not registered in Brunei. I believe if you’d gone to a regular fuel station without a dedicated pump for foreign vehicles, they might close an eye and sell it to you. It’s only a bike, you couldn’t buy much to profit from it. The price of RON97 petrol is only 0.53 Brunei dollars (40 US cents) a litre.

I used to love rambutans when I was a kid. We had 1 tree beside our kampung house and another in front. Both gave abundance of fruits when in season every time without fail, and after school I would take casual strolls under those trees and simply pluck away a few low hanging ones, sweet and especially refreshing when the day was hot. But many years later, unfortunately the layer between the big pit and the sweet flesh (the skin for the pit), that just got me coughing almost every time! So nowadays whenever I go back and rambutans are in season, I just watch. Else I'd be helping to pick some for visitors etc
