BISG's 2024 Annual Meeting
Panel 5 - How Standards for Product Metadata Reflect Shifts in Culture
Subject categories do the heavy lifting in communicating book content to machines and people. This panel addressed the processes for adding new categories, updating or inactivating established BISACs, using merchandising and regional codes, and the value of BISAC-to-Thema mapping for markets that use Thema. Panelists include: Geraldine Zephirin (Barnes & Noble); Michael Olenick (Clarivate); and Gina Wachtel (Penguin Random House). The panel is moderated by Connie Harbison (Baker & Taylor), Chair of the BISG Subject Codes Committee.
