If youre worried about scratches in your paint, dont take it bush.
@akent46
@akent46 9 ай бұрын
The odd scratch when going bush is different to rubbing the whole rig down with, effectively, sand paper, removing microns of paint each wash. This starts paint peel and clear coat lifting off.

or... hear me out: Take it bush, get scratches from the offroading. Then wash it properly, avoiding extra preventable scratches from rubbing small rocks and sand into your paint 🤷‍♂️

A bit advertorial but great content. Products and techniques have come a long way since the 'sponge and two bucket method'. Foams that stay foamy really help soften all sorts of road and off-road muck. Pressure washing is ok but keep the lance away from sensitive bits. As said here, low pressure high volume not the other way round. These wheeled under cleaners are also great, including where roads are salted. There's loads to really like here and I've not seen the installed chassis hoses. Very trick. Keeping a vehicle clean when used only on highways is hard. 4WDs needs even more care and it's often more difficult to do. Thanks!!

Before drying off, grab the garden blower (or some shop vacs you can move the hose to the other end and it blows warm air) to get a large amount of water out of the mirrors, door jams, handles, grill, headlights. It really makes half the work and stops runs later once you’ve grabbed that microfibre drying towel and gone over the car to dry it. I use a flash version for detailing but a garden blower or shop vac is going to do a nice enough job all things considered.
@stco2426
@stco2426 9 ай бұрын
A blower is good advice. A short drive can also do the same, as long as it's not dusty! The drive also clears water from brakes, bellhousing, bellows etc.
@FuManchu5ltr
@FuManchu5ltr 9 ай бұрын
@@stco2426 downside there is that it also dries the rest the car and that will leave water spotting and lead to etching. After a short drive, water will continue to drip out of headlight, grill, around handles messing up the work and time spent cleaning. Just blow out the places a microfibre drying towel can’t get into. Then wipe down with a thick microfibre drying towel while moisture is still on the car.
@FuManchu5ltr
@FuManchu5ltr 6 ай бұрын
It doesn’t. I’ve done it for years and years. Theres still loads of water on the car, just not trapped in all the crevices. There are actual professional blowers for cars that detailers use, they are heated. I’m just suggesting a hack using a common household item. BigBoi is one brand of detailers blower. (That’s what she said)

You completely ignored 1 massive thing, the engine bay, when I was a detailer, my 5 tips is, 1. if it's bad, fork out the cash for a professional, we have the chemicals and acids and disposal to do it right, 2. cover the computer. 3. use a range of brushes to get into the nooks and crannies, 4. when using high pressure be extremely careful and don't get too close, especially around wiring/connectors spark plugs, let the detergent do most the work, 5. Avoid sun like the plague.

I used to polish the D1 2 times a year with Autoglym Super Resin Polish, dirt would just fall off with a hose pipe. for the chassis, park in a river for about 10 mins! :-D I suspect as the old D1 has been sat up for a while now that it might need a good flush out, but better wait until the Robin's have fledged as almost guaranteed there is one nesting in there somewhere! The 110's new galv chassis has been done with Buzzweld's products and they are awesome. It's still got to have it's first trip, but honestly, you can't beat a 300tdi 110 for being the most awesome vehicle off road. Get Justin's on the show more, you will get a higher class of viewer! I might even crack open the Moet! 😛

Use these simple tricks!: Don't wash the inside of the snorkel with a high-pressure hose! Don't use diesel to clear the stains from your carpet. Be sure to use a toothbrush to clean the dirt out of your tyre treads. Keep your mouth closed! You can't suck the chrome off a lowball, no matter what they tell you!

When I served in the Air Force, we used to have exercises where we’d have to prep 5-ton military trucks for airlift. They would refuse to accept a truck with ANY DIRT, including the hard to see places under the chassis and wheel wells. They called it a “frustrated chalk” whenever they’d refuse a vehicle, and boy that name accurate!

haha. after each mud trip, i do a deep fresh water crossing several times forward and reverse to wash under the car. there are enough pinstripes all over that washing mud off with a sponge is no issue too, though of corse i do wash it off before the scrubbing starts. when i service the car, i remove underbody protection and clear all mud, sand and debris out too just as an added part to the maintainance. it would be great to have a beutifully immaculate 4wd but i just go bush and it never lasts. i'll worry about how it looks when i sell it. get it polished or even resprayed. 🤷😅

One big thing I see done wrong here. Don't wash your car on concrete, Wash it on the grass so the dirt, oils and chemicals are not flowing into storm water and into our waterways. This should be common sense for everyone but sadly too many people still wash their cars in the driveway, do it on the grass of go to a car wash where they are meant to capture and treat the water before allowing it run off.

@4WD247 I still reccomend washing on the grass. I know when we have had water restrictions and even out of it is always reccomended or pushed that we wash our vehicles on the grass so as not to waste water. Even if the products are environmentally friendly you still get the mud and crap washing down.
