Thanks for featuring this. I put a Bridge 6 on my wishlist when this video first came out and mine finally got delivered today! I’d love to see more content on it if you’re still using it!

Great video man! I got the bridge 6 and picked up a bridge 4 from someone who had to sell theirs after getting it. Been using the 4 for ableton control and it works great! I actually also have Simon's original Midi controller he made when I was first looking for something to replace my KMI!

I'm a programmer and you're right about toggle on and toggle off.
@marcodelucia18 күн бұрын
I suggest the ActitioN midi controller. With led lights, all the plugs you can ask for, and 8 toggle switches. 130€. That's fair! No screen, but with learn function it will be easy to setup.

You can use a widi uhost with the pirate midi and a widi jack with the hxstomp to release a flexiport. If you also use a power supply like the cioks dc7 with an usb output, you also free up a cable by powering the piratemidi through the same widi uhost.

Awesome video. I struggle with deciding which to get (Bridge6 or MC6 Morningstar) but I went with the MC6, it works perfect, one thing I don’t like, it looks to simple or too plain…. the bridge6 on the other hand, looks stunning and the LED lights add more to the device look…..again I don’t regret buying the MC6 over the Bridge6. Very easy to use (interface and Editor)…now they have the app to edit those messages. 🙌🙌🙌🙌 again awesome video bro!!!

Sometimes you might want to toggle an effect on, regardless of whether it is currently on or off. This is why you need a toggle ON command as opposed to a toggle command. Also, you want the LED to correspond to on/off state, with just a Toggle command it could get off and so you the wrong info on the LED.

On tap tempo and tuner for FS3 and using midi clocking. It’s actually a super good idea to leave this alone as is in FS3 and work around it. The helix uses a change in the LED ring swapping from the typical Red to Blue when it is receiving external clocking. That’s pretty much the best indication in helix and a good little visual alarm 🚨 to show you it’s working on external clocking or not.

I use an MC6 instead of the Pirate, and I set up a preset in the MC6 for each song in a set. The press to engage a preset sends the BPM to all my MIDI pedals, including my Stomp. No need to tap in the tempo on the Stomp or the controller. I'm guessing the Pirate has a similar function to the MC6 for this.

Last up the new helix cc’s and there are a few of em “not in the manual”. These All get documented in the release notes of every update. The reason why line6 and also many other companies do loads of release notes but don’t often update the manuals is by international laws you would have to republish in all the various languages in the markets you’re selling in. This is a huge thing translating hence you’ll always find the latest stuff in the release notes 📝.

Great video! So the toggle on and toggle off thing. These are message stacks and the big idea common in external midi controllers is to be able to split up two sets of messages to do multiple things. There would be a way to hook that into just one message using footswitch EMULATION. IN that case you’d send a cc message 50 which replicates hitting switch 2 in that preset. If the stomp is set to toggle an effect then each cc50 will leave the toggle messages generated automatically in helix. Why would you ever do that ? Let’s say your stomp was on a desk, or in a rack centralized during your service. You could program it as normal, and use WIDI to duplicate switches and throw that anywhere you wanted on stage, super useful if you’re moving around on a soundless stage and want to be up front and hit that solo with your stomp nice and safe elsewhere. The pirate stuff is awesome there as on any stage under the stress of performing, you’re now able to look down and see your switches not only as names but as colours ( yes I’m british - that’s how it is spelled :-)

What’s your take on the bridge 6 vs the MC6?
@EliasCasula2 жыл бұрын
that's funny, yesterday I was reprogramming my midi controller to do exactly the same things (snapshots scrolling instead of three different buttons, and preset scrolling), but looking online i found out that there was no cc for preset up and down, so thanks for the info!! By the way, how did you find out about this command if it's not reported on the manual?

How does HX Stomp + Midi compare to an HX Stomp XL? Is it cheaper, more functional/customizable? I don't have a ton of money and I'm saving for the XL. If this way is cheaper and is more customizable, then I'll do some more Midi research.

Not sure why midi controllers like this don't use rechargeable batteries by now like the Air Stomp etc.
@makingmusiconline23092 жыл бұрын
I'd guess because they are mostly on pedal boards that already have a power supply available, and rechargeable batteries add cost, weight, and only last a certain number of recharge cycles before you have to open up the pedal and replace them. If the HX Stomp was available wireless, then that would be great :) In the meantime Mission Engineering 529M or similar let's you use a rechargeable USB battery block to power the HX Stomp and a bunch of other pedals including the Pirate Bridge 4 or 6. The 529M can give 3A (3,000mA, yeah, you know) to power pretty much anything on your board.
@gurbina2 жыл бұрын
Actually you can use an external battery and power up the piratemidi through the usb-c connector
@HeyWorshipLeader2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm..that's a thought
@PIRATEMIDI2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, thanks for your comment. Although rechargeable batteries are really convenient, they're really bad for the planet. Most people aren't confident in finding replacement batteries and opening up an electronic device to replace them. That's able to be worked around, of course, by using a really common type of battery and connector, and creating an opening in the enclosure. But most people wouldn't go to the trouble, and it creates e-waste. Then there's shipping. Posting batteries is extra expensive and requires a lot of declarations and special shipping options. That would make our Australia-based business much more expensive seeing as everything has to be shipped out by air because we're an island nation! As someone else said below, most people use this on a pedalboard, and if you do want to battery power it, there are options to use a multi-purpose battery power bank to power it. Hope that clears it up :)

These things are too much $$$, Mooer or someone needs to deliver a $100 option
@seancca2 жыл бұрын
Trust me it is worth what you get out of it.
@makingmusiconline23092 жыл бұрын
Someone like Mooer can probably do that as they will sell thousands of them and can divide the design cost and programming cost across those thousands of units. Sam & Simon and team are basically assembling these at home and writing the software and designing the boards and getting light pipes made up for the LEDs to appear at the top, and designing the PCBs and the cases and everything else. You're probably looking at upwards of $200k for the time spent designing and assembling these plus the parts cost (and parts are through the roof at the moment!) so parts are going to be well over $100 per unit at the moment ... so if they can sell a couple of thousand of these, then there's a possibility they might not lose money on them .... Mooer has big factories and design teams and such and if they can sell 20,000 of them, that reduces the overhead (design costs) down to $10 or $20 dollars a unit, plus the $100 in parts would possibly drop if they can guarantee to buy 120,000 footswitches etc. If this is too expensive, then you can run midi from an ipad or a smart phone or a laptop .... though each of those devices cost many hundreds of dollars, and write your own software .... but then you'd have to rig up the footswitches and the display yourself ... and I suspect it would take you at least a week to do all that, and so, for most people, it's cheaper paying for someone else to do the work.
@seancca2 жыл бұрын
@@makingmusiconline2309 I would also say that if they thought there was a market Mooer would have done so already.

There are some cheap foot controllers arriving on the market from Chinese low/no-name quality companies, but they're very very basic, no LEDs, difficult/obtuse user interface and poor english translation with next to no customer support. If you're a DIY tech-head it'd probably be doable for you, but most customers in this market are musicians, not engineers. We've priced the BRIDGE controllers to offer more features on a newer development platform than our competitors and it seems to be a good fit so far. I WILL say that we're close to releasing our new aux-switch which also has the ability to act as a simple MIDI controller. That one's gonna be awesome :)
