Joey's a master class in drumming for sure. However no drummer is more iconic or influential than the king of rock drums, John Bonham. Doesn't even matter which of his works you use either. Both avid music fans and the average person will recognize Led Zeppelin's drums.

@@terranceroper5434 No , he didn't , it was Omar , Terry said listening to him just warming up was intimidating . Tezza wan't Dire Straits original drummer either , that would be the late David 'Pick 'Withers who played on the bands first four albums . At that time Terry ' the king of Swansea cool ' was a member of Rockpile with Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe , before that a member of mad Welsh jam band Man.

@@weehudyy Interestingly, on “Money…” the intro with Sting singing “I want my MTV” features Williams signature rapid fire tom tom work. The actual song has Hakim taking over. This move from Williams to Hakim makes sense for the record. Williams style is machine gun like fills while Hakim is a solid groove drummer. Drummer Terry Williams was replaced by Sting's drummer Omar Hakim halfway through the album after producer Neil Dorfsman decided he wasn't up to scratch. Omar Hakim recorded the beat on all the tracks in two days although Williams' drumming can still be heard in the iconic opening of “Money for Nothing”.Jun 24, 2017

I must admit that I was surprised by the Led Zep song that you picked for John's bass drum work. Before I even watched the full video I thought for sure that the song you were going to do was "Good Times Bad Times" His single bass drum work in that song is incredible! He's doing triplets with one foot. Sounds like he's using double bass to do that but he's not. That foot work in that song is just crazy!

And that, my friend, might be the exact reaseon why they didn't choose that tune, precisely... 😂
@LeviAWilson
@LeviAWilson 3 жыл бұрын
@@isihernandez9752 lol I know exactly what you mean. I started playing music when I was 12. I play 3 different instruments with drums being the first one I learned. It took me about 6 or 7 months of continuous practice to learn how to do that and I still don't think I'm doing it as well as he did. I mean just doing those triplets with the one foot is bad enough, but he's also keeping a rock steady single beat timing with his left foot on the hi hat while he's doing it. He was very creative so it figures that only somebody like him would come up with something like that in the first place.

I will experiment a bit, most likely with single ply heads, port hole sizes, and felt strips or towels. I really appreciate you including quick snippets of how each individual head is tuned, it's really helpful for those of us who teach ourselves. I'm curious about your remark about the reso side mic on the Bonham sound about experimenting with placement to find the "sweet spot"; do you have audio and/or video recording of you trying out different placements? I'd love to hear the difference between the "sweet spot" and otherwise. (I can imagine that'd be "second channel" kind of content since it's probably not algorithm-friendly)

One of Bonham's mics was in the hallway... at some point. And, you gotta muster more power for that marching kick, it can handle it.

It would be real interesting if you could recreate the bass drum sound for the track bread fan by Budgie. Very deep with no overtones. It takes a hell of a good sound system to even reproduce it. Just a massive thud. Kits from the 70s just have a deep, warm tone. I'm guessing 24" tuned low and highly muffled.

Amazing video. One of my favourite kick sounds is Alex Van Halen's on 1984.

I just watched a video on KZbin that explained all of his different drum kits throughout his career. During that time period, He was using Simmons electronic triggers and pads stuffed inside his acoustic kit.

Is there a recreating iconic tom sounds yet? I suppose I could just look it up if there is but thought I'd ask.
