Helvetti, dear Maari! I am 65 now, knitting and crocheting since I was 3 years old, and FINALLY I found somebody who shows me how to make proper edges in double crochet pieces! I am more of a knitter, so I didn't spend a lot of time and energy to find it out but tricks like these, simple but effective, make crocheting so much more fun. Kiitos paljon! ❤ Regards from Germany Susanne

I absolutely love your tips, and your channel. I’m 73 been crocheting since I was 8 and I’ve learned so much more from you. The magic ring your way is definitely the best, I didn’t know you could crochet an Icord, I always knitted mine thanks for the wonderful tip. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw how easy it was to make yarn thicker. I’ll explain how I recently did it, and if you or anybody laughs at me I won’t be offended😊 so I had a ball of yarn and needed to triple it, my idea was unravel all the ball, spread it out along the floor and try to divide it into three. Well I had yarn everywhere, my husband decided I needed help and between the two of us we were able to untangle the mess and get the thickness I wanted, after all that the three sections were not even, one section was about half a meter longer than the others. Oh dear😂😂😂🤣🤣
@TuulaMaaria Жыл бұрын
Oh wow, that was a story! 😂 Definitely the tip with the loops is easier, doesn't take up a whole floor! This shows, we keep learning right through life, I'm happy I always come up with some new tips from various sources too!

Hi Tuula - I was lucky to begin crocheting at a very young age because my grandmother lived closed by. She taught me using steel hooks and 10 weight cotton thread --she did beautiful fine work edging tablecloths and pillowcases that were made from sugar and flour sacks! Your tips were great - the two that were new to me were the method to keep the edges straighter and making a heavier yarn using strands from the same ball! Thank you for taking the time to share these -( even tho I'm over 70) it is great to learn and improve no matter what you are doing.

I always have the working yarn coming from the ball, so I don't measure that. The tail needs to be 3x the length, I haven't actually measured how much yarn it takes from the ball compared to the tail. For this reason I point out the tail and the working yarn separately at the start. I should have added that the working yarn is still in the ball, I didn't think of that!

A tip I often give new crocheters when working back & forth in rows, is to put a stitch marker in the top of the chain at the beginning of the row, that way you can see where your last stitch goes, helping to keep the work even & making sure all stitches are worked. If a piece of work is going to be used often, I normally do a double magic ring for extra security. I love your videos keep up the good work, thank you

Thank you! I'll always use your tip for a stronger circle. I've always thought, if that one strand breaks...😧

I love the cord technique #3. I'm so glad I learned it several years back. The number one thing to remember about the cord crochet trick is to always grab the bottom thread by hooking it the opposite way you normally grab your thread. You have to force your brain to think "opposite." I 've used the crochet cord for so many goofy stuff. I just finish making a colorful 5 inch cord tab for a friend who had trouble popping out her window screen. Using nylon thread (thread for making friendship bracelets) as a zipper tab. My suitcase has 5 different zipper compartments. I put 3 inch tabs on the main compartment....so at the airport, I'm not zipping all types of compartments to get to what I need. Also good way to wrap a cord on a suitcase handle to identify. Using nylon thread (or any thread/rope, etc from garden supply store), there's no end for cord use for gardening projects: hanging planters, holding up baby plants to a stake, color identification of plants, and just wrapping and glueing a cord around a pot.

Thank you! I could try that way with the magic ring.As long as it remains quick and easy!

@@TuulaMaaria yes it is just as quick as yours (or perhaps quicker) but just with two fingers to create the little space

Here I thought I knew everything about crochet! 😂 Wow, I loved all of your tips, I'm going to use all of them from now on! Thank you for this video - I especially loved the idea of tripling your working yarn, how clever! And the cord! And the level sides for the double crochet was beautifully done! I am so happy I subscribed! 😄

Lovely to hear that the tips are useful and thank you for subscribing 😊 I find that no matter how long I crochet, there are always new things to learn about it, which keeps it interesting!

Your tip to thicken yarn is my all time favorite tip. I've started a blanket using this technique and am very pleased so far. Thank you so much.

Thank you for demonstrating the easier way to make the magic ring. I've always hated the magic ring. Thank you again.

TY Tuula! I’ve been crocheting since childhood and this is the first time I’ve seen a stitching solution to that awkward, last Double Crochet on the row lump! I’m going to use this hint immediately on my current dog sweater project. 😊

I’m trying to learn how to crochet correctly. I can make many items following people on KZbin, but from you, I have learned so much more by watching just a few of your videos. Thank you for your expertise. 💕💃🏻

Great video, thank you. I use my phone for everything , I just never thought to use it for tracking project hooks. Double 2tg is a great way to keep edges neat, I'll give it a try on my next scarf. But, I'm a 2 finger gal for the magic circle, it's easier to insert the hook. You have a beautiful home and view.

Thank you! It often takes someone to give an idea, I didn't think of taking photos of crochet hook sizes myself either! - I filmed that in my daughter's house, I was cat-sitting ( showed the cat in last week's video 😄)

Hi, I often use the magic ring and I take photos of my projects with the crochet hooks. I upload it to my Facebook page to help me keep track. I often look back at my Facebook albums using the search words that I include with the photos. I do this with the yarn and hooks. I initiate this practice more often. 😊 Thanks for sharing wonderful tips. Have a wonderful day! ❤

Would be a good idea to upload the photos to Facebook! I upload to my Google drive so that they are all in one folder. Have a great day! 😊

Thank you for the holy grail of tips. Just started crocheting again after 20 years and many of the techniques were new to me and the hand gymnastics of the magic circle left me with chain slip stitch to a circle technique that i learned years ago but today your tip(s) the best!

I make my ring the way you do. I do a stacked dc at the beginning of each row instead of chaining. I had such a hard time until I learned this trick. I wonder if it was one of your videos to learn that. I was always afraid of making a cord now I can! Thank you so much for your tips!
@TuulaMaaria Жыл бұрын
Great! I don't have a video of stacked dc, I do have a couple on the standing stitch at the start of a row or round. Happy crocheting!

@@TuulaMaaria Oh! Maybe that's what I've been doing (Standing stitch) I may just have named it wrong. Thank you for answering!

@@karleedu there are two similar things you can do and they do have a different name, you probably named yours right!
