I remember working on those "minisplit" condensers in the early sixties. GE made many and so did Airtemp and the side discharge could reach across 40 feet and cause the neighbors a/c to shut down due to taking in hot air discharge. This was up in NY.

Sometimes the homeowners had to have some shrubs planted to resolve the problem!

Great video Josh. Combustion air for your fireplace and water heater on super tight homes. This is an issue I see all of the time. Along with make up air for the really high CFM kitchen exhaust fans.

Thanks pal. Too many technicians don’t own a combustion analyzer

Crawl spaces or raised foundation residences. What/how does encapsulating that area truly benefit the building? Seems that the area is already air tight, the soil and the concrete or masonry foundations/stem walls don't breathe but they do transfer heat/cold. The vents have to be open so I'm fully aware of the benefits.

The main benefit is turning that space into basically another room in the house. A large percentage of the air people are breathing comes from the crawlspace, and all of the things going on in the crawlspace, due to stack effect.

How do short cycling and humidity management factor in on a ductless mini split? Does the unit's ability to modulate compensate for being oversized? Curious because not all manufacturers offer indoor evaporators smaller than 9k BTU, and that's oversized for a lot of typical bedrooms, for example.

Im thinking of purchasing a NEWLY BUILT home. I noticed in the large square vents in the ceiling they are all black. I thought that seemed strange for a new home. Should i be worried about this?
