I've been doing great on a bitsy bug this winter. I've also been taking the skirt off of a small swim jig and using a small Keitech and slow rolling it through the slop. A lot of bank anglers can't fish a finesse swimbait because of all the gunk and vegetation near the shore. Using a small swim jig works great for that!

Me too, I got old and catch a lot of bass over the years but like warmer weather! I seem to catch way more when it warms up! I fish way too fast too when bass are lethargic!

The ned rig was fire for a while, now that's cooled off. I tried a red lipless crank and a shaky head that I grabbed from your 5 Jan lures video and that worked for a while, now that's gone cold also, no pun intended lol I'll give the jig a try next, thanks for the helpful tips. Enjoy all your content and informative videos.

nice vid, Tyler! my favorite finesse jig trailer in the winter is RI 3.5 sweet beaver. just like you said, it’s a lot like a chunk trailer and minimal action is better this time of year. God bless!

3 years running.. tried fishing my lake each winter and I have 0 fish so far. First winter was just inexperience, but after that I've focused my attention on jigs, jerk baits, and blade baits. I don't go running all over the lake but I select rocky points or steep ledges with still no luck. I don't know if I'm just in the wrong areas of the lake or if I'm not going slow enough, but if I went any slower than I have been going, I might just hang the rods up for the winter
@seantobin8547 Жыл бұрын
When they bite this time of year you dont even feel it. Itll just feel like you ran into something like a rick or a root. Set the hook and youll either have a snag ot a fish. I just learned that this winter. Afterward i realized i was missing tons of fish. Since ive learned this, ive caught tons. Ill have 10-15 fish days. Obviously some days less but ive done very well. You probly have fish picking up your bait and not even realizing it and when you make your next reel or pull theyre spitting it out. Once theyre hooked theyll still definitly put up a fight though.

I would use a spinner blade with a 2-3 inch swimbait I use a swimbait with a paddle tail like a zoom fluke to be specific on a white spinner or I got bit slow rolling a 360 gt searchbait in chartreuse

When in doubt, throw a ned rig and let it sit. A fish will pick it up
@JustinBergerPT Жыл бұрын
@@jamham1988 I have thrown the ned rig a bit but have 0 confidence in it.. I feel like I need to be in the right spot for it to be effective and I already feel like I'm not in the right spots not even having any bites (that I've been aware of having - going back to how the feel of the bite is different)

let's say you're fishing in rain runoff (like right now in CA) do you still agree with the smaller jig? or in this super low vis chocolate milk (sub 6inch) do you still like a smaller profile?
@zachg5356 Жыл бұрын
What's your water Temps like? Murky water like your describing if the Temps are over 50 I'd go larger and black and chartreuse. Especially if they are feasting in that moving water. GL

Jigs are still underutilized. When everyone else these days is crawling giant swimbaits and whop plopping. It works on the internet in ponds sure but you will not catch a big fish on a big swimbait on any public body of water where I'm from. They used to bite swimbaits but now everyone throws them. Caught a 7.33 on a 3/8ths strike king mini flip with a fluke as a trailer trailer just dead sticking it on new years day. 4 days of unseasonably warm weather went from ice to open water and all it took. 7 feet of water in a sun spot. Great video brother old school gets bit!

Tyler, thoughts on using a reddish jig and trailer in the winter
@samsalem2049 Жыл бұрын
Well one video says bass can't see red below a depth of like 1ft, another says match the hatch, and the other says red is like crack for bass..... What they don't tell you is that it all depends on where you're fishing. What are your bass eating this time of year? What's your lake stocked with? What type of structure does you lake have? Is it even a lake? Great bass fishermen (and all hunters) are truly scientists in a sense Every cast and fish caught is intentional and stems from their true understanding of the fish and it's behaviors. They also have to know the environment of the fish aka the structure and how bass utilize the structure based off of that days weather and tomorrow's barometric pressure and lunar phases ect... It's easy for us to watch a video and go throw that lure because we just saw it work. That said a lot of videos don't touch on why they believe what they're saying....so it's not our fault. It's just experience

Tyler. Im confused. So TacticalBassin put a vid together to use a football jig in cold water (e.g. like 40 degree water temp), winter months like we are now (January). So are you saying to use a non-football jig? Can you clarify?
@BassFishingHQ Жыл бұрын
It really depends on the cover you are fishing. If you are fishing mostly rock and really hard bottom areas, then yes a football jig is what you want to use. Now a lot of times when you are fishing creek channel swings, like I talk about here, you may be fishing around more wood cover. Around one you might want to switch up your jig to an arkie style jig or a flipping style jig. These come through wood a little better than a football jig

I can't help but to laugh at the idea of a 7’2" medium heavy rod for finesse bass fishing. Those great lakes guys catch 30" lake trout in 200' of water with 2 oz jigs with medium power rods. Let's all take a deep breath and recalibrate.
