Aside from dealing spike damage,a BB's role is to draw incoming fire away from your more vulnerable teammates. Some battleships are better at this than others, but even the squishiest BB has better survivability than the toughest cruiser, with a few exceptions.

Know your reload times for your battleships. This especially comes in handy when deciding to full send, whether you are surrounded and need to fight multiple fronts, or when you're so close your secondaries are firing. If you have a 30 second reload, you might wanna think about not firing a full salvo and alternate your guns instead.

I like BBs. its my main squeeze. Taking the right shots is big. Also getting the reds to pay attention to you can free up the cruisers and destroyers to make plays. ( tanking damage) Angelo Iachino is a very helpful inspiration.
@goatfishing98392 жыл бұрын
Cunningham is a better inspiration. Iachino gives no bonus for cv. Had plenty of games W/3DD,5BB, and a CV. or having only 1 cruiser in the game. I do use Iachino on my British BB.

Whenever I played the game I always thought the point was to chip away at the other battleships because I just assumed they were supposed to be the strongest ships, and if you I wasn’t targeting them I was playing wrong. I’d get nervous picking it because I didn’t want to let the team down, but I never thought of playing the ways you recommend, this has been really helpful

Rate Of Fire. Vital. If nothing else, you are generally better off making 2-3 imperfect shots rather than waiting the same time for that "perfect" shot (which may or may not come, anyhow). The primary goal is inflicting enough damage to lead to a kill (by you OR the team). Somewhere in there, I would also add, "Don't Make It Too Easy For The Other Side'. Angling is a very big part of that, certainly, but also don't be predictable. When detected, jink around so that you are harder to hit. PropMod is something I fit to pretty much all my BBs, and use - alter speed constantly and even hit the brakes now and then, and never ever just sail in straight lines. Habitually zigzagging just a little bit can make all the difference for basically any attack coming your way.

Dont always sit with AP loaded as well. if a ship is at range and you just fired at them and they're turning, switch shells the moment you fire so you can hit them with the HE while they're angled at you then switch back immediately after. I like to start games with HE loaded for that exact reason, or to get a lucky dev strike on a destroyer off the rip

Ah the old win rate calculus, I will admit I could do better as mine hovers around 48%, but then again I play more aggressively and that comes with more risk. Agree positioning is very difficult, a lot of variables come into play.

I feel like my biggest weakness in battleships is positioning, I try to find the right spot to be close enough to support my teammates but not close enough that I've got multiple golden showers and a DD to deal with but it always seems like I'm way too far forwards or borderline on the moon. Any suggestions? The really weird thing is I'm pretty good at BBs at tier V but my VI/VII premiums I'm usually not great in. Also glad to hear my winrate is well above average!
@TheFirstRedNinja2 жыл бұрын
Positioning is probably the single most difficult thing to learn in this game. You have to find the right blend of hanging back to protect yourself from being burned to the ground, and being aggressive enough to support your teammates. Part of what makes it so difficult is that that blend is different for every ship and every match. One of the things I've learned is that often in a battleship, the trick is to force your opponents into making the first mistake - turning broadside, or surrendering a cap, etc. If you trade shots and bow tank with one guy for 5 minutes of the game, but then he's finally forced into moving because your DD has finished taking out the enemy DD and can now send torpedos into the enemy BB, that's not necessarily a loss in terms of strategy. You've effectively traded your HP for the chance for your DD to do his job, and finally forced the enemy into making a fatal mistake. Yes, you might only have a third of your health left, but if it gives your team the win it's absolutely worth it. Paying attention to how your team deploys in the first two or so minutes of the game is super critical for positioning, and initial positioning can often win or lose the game by itself. Stay close enough to your teammates that you can cover them, make sure you're not blocking yourself from shooting by going around a huge island that will take 5 minutes to get around, and for the love of God don't start the match by hitting reverse lmao.
@hergie4092 жыл бұрын
When I position in a battleship I’m looking for an island to cover one flank from torps or shots, then I push out a little from that island to start shooting targets of opportunity. If it’s a one v one or two v one I will sustain and tank and fire back. Once my damage con and first repair party are used I might consider falling back if my island will prevent me from being spotted while my cooldowns are up, then coming back out once they are close to being off cooldown to tank more. Sometimes you end up being the first point of contact in an enemy push. If I can tell I can’t disengage I will turtle into my cover and focus on surviving as long as possible to slow the push while praying match making has given me a team that can read minimaps and use the time I’m buying to make the correct play in their side. Sometimes in a battleship there is nothing you can do. Your team either abandons you or refuses to play the objective. But I think battleship is a good way to learn world of warships. While your guns are reloading, it gives you time to look at mini map, watching your opponents and teammates. From your battleship, what do you wish your cruisers were doing? Well next time you play cruiser, be a bro to your battleship. Same for dd, you will realize what you wish they would do (spot and guard against other dds)

So you're not suppose to go to the farthest corner of the map away from the red team and lob shots at max range in 5 minute increments in hopes to hit something?

good to see you calling out the dogshit play by BBs, so much focus is on DDs play on KZbin, but as a DD main i get paired with BB melons who start the match by reversing, leading to a tough carry. they usually pair reversing with "i need intelligence data" constantly on repeat, despite all the red ships being visible on the map but out of range or behind islands because they cant move their BB into a relevant position...

I disagree with the paper, rock, scissors aspect of the game. DD are not there to counter BB. They are to take caps and counter enemy DD, BB need to move forward to support the DD by preventing the enemy cruisers from moving up to support their DD.

@@TbullGaming In theory that my be true, but in practice not so much. For the dd to (efficiently) kill a bb is the torp rush. And how many times have you seen players mess that up. Anything else they need to get lucky. Due to the bb torp protection I would say on avg. hitting a torp is a little better than hitting a cit from a bb. Not counting the flooding.

A big thing to overcome is that the game literally gives you terrible advice, a common tip on the map loading screen says “Operate in formations, a lone ship is an easy target”. This actively discourages the more useful strategy of spreading out to achieve right angles. It’s one of the reasons why the black hole happens so much.
@diskopartizan08502 жыл бұрын
It's interesting, grouping together is important in CV games, I learned the hard way in the Champagne how bad the AA was. That doesn't mean you need to be 1km apart though, 5km gives you mutual AA and the possibility of different angles on ships.
