I remember I asked you to help me learn the blues. You said, "I really don't know the blues. It's not really my thing." You pulled up some electric blues on the internet/KZbin with tab and you and I worked out a BB King Tune. A few months went by and out of the blue, you said, "Hey, thanks for turning me onto the blues. I kind of like it." And, Hell, look at you now! You are rocken it! That must have been ten or twelve years ago. It's nice to see you are still doing what you love. Rember, Steve "with the prosthetic leg " Solo. I play for 2-3 hours every day. Cheers!

@rockongoodpeople9 ай бұрын
Hi and thank u for watching. On that guitar I dont know the exact measurement but generally I set the action on my guitars so its not too low - I like to be able to work the notes and really dig in - personally I dont like guitars where the action is really really low - just not the right feel for me - I like letting the notes really ring out and really work the bends and vibrato. But again, that is just me and you want to setup your guitars for what feels the best and sounds the best for you. Its a very personal thing for sure. Hi and thank you for checking out this video. Eb tuning, or half step down from standard to Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb, low to high, is a common tuning many bands use. Many players like the sound of the EB tuning as it sounds a bit heavier as well as there is a little more slack in the strings so they are easier to bend. Many singers prefer Eb as it brings everything down a half step so its a little bit lower to sing. Stevie Ray used Eb tuning often as did Eddie Van Halen, Alice in Chains, and so many other bands and players, Here is an older lesson we did on Eb tuning many years ago - check it out as you may find it helpful. And please stay tuned - lots more killer lessons and content on the way and please subscribe to the channel. Take care and have a rocking day! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.

Yeah e flat tuning (half step down) is very common tuning. can sound like magic too. if you want a couple of nice songs to learn half step down try Nutshell by Alice in Chains and Patience by Guns and Roses. both songs very easy to learn. If you're an intermediate level player You could literally learn both these songs in 10 minutes or less

I see you are using light gauge strings. Can you do that with the heaviest sets?
@rockongoodpeople4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul - for this lesson that MIM strat is strung with .010 gauge strings. You could do it with .011s but keep in mind the heavy gauge strings get a little harder to bend. Take some getting used to for sure and you may have to reset up your guitar as the heavier strings will create more tension on the neck. @rockongoodpeople3 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thank u for checking out our lessons and channel and for your kind words - most appreciated. The fender strat used in this lesson is just a regular run of the mill made in Mexico 1998 strat. But I have found that those mid to late 90s MIM strats have some pretty hot stock pickups in them. The red in the finish looks a lot more red on camera under the lights - its actually not that red as it appears. All in all is a great sounding and playing strat. Can anyone tell me why he's tuned down a half step?
@rockongoodpeople3 жыл бұрын
Hi Seth - the tuning to Eb in this lesson is for a few reasons. One is that is the preferred tuning of SRV and since we are doing licks in his style we thought it would be more authentic to use the tuning he liked most, which is Eb. Eb tuning gives you a little heavier sound. Plus with the thick strings that SRV used it makes the strings looser and easier to bend. Plus singers often like tuning down a half step as it makes the vocals a tad easier. Those are a few reasons on why tune to Eb tuning. Thank u for checking out this lesson - most appreciated. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer lessons and content- lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more killer lessons coming soon. @@rockongoodpeople Hey I appreciate the reply my man. That's actually pretty interesting. Where would you start for learning his style licks? Or am I already in the right spot haha. Keep up the good work!
@rockongoodpeople3 жыл бұрын
Hi again Seth and if you are interested in the SRV style we have a whole course dedicated to the playing style of SRV - its pretty killer - its pretty much a comprehensive deep dive study into the aggressive lead playing, rhythm playing, clean playing, and gear/tone of SRV. The course includes over 2.5 hours of detailed video instruction, 10 jam tracks - same ones we utilize throughout the video lessons, and a PDF reference eBook. Check it out here - nextlevelguitar.com/srv_inspired/ - Watch the video preview and read about the course and please let me know if you have any questions - I am here to help. @@rockongoodpeople Thanks for the answer! The thing is that I also use 10 gauge strings but i tried to bend with my index finger as i saw from you at the end of the video but unfortunately it is very painful and I can't do it. I have a set of 10-52 strings on my guitar now. I'm Stevie Ray a fan. I have a Fender De Lux guitar.
@rockongoodpeople4 жыл бұрын
HI agagin - if the .010s are a little too hard to bend or cause pain you may want to drop down a set and string your guitar with .09 gauge and see how those feel. Keep in mind you may have to re set up the guitar with .09s as coming from a thicker gauge it will be less neck tension so you may have to make some adjustments - no biggie though. Enjoy and happy holidays. -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.

It's a chromatic passing tone it's not in any of the scales used in the blues. It's used to get from the 9th to the root. Kind of a jazzy move.
