I really fell for the green and walnut. The colors looked rich together. I would have never considered it, so thank you. I look forward to green-and-walnutting up my horrid white kitchen.

The white & oak color combination in my opinion is also very timeless, as wood and white are almost neutral enough to work with so many other finishes! Great suggestion...

Nice video Michael. However, In my opinion, nothing beats the classic dark green English kitchen. While some may find Scandinavian kitchens sleek, I find them to be bland and lacking character. To me, they resemble a kitchen straight out of an alien spaceship.

From a kitchen designer's viewpoint, this is a good reference as color preference vary from one homeowner to another. Once the end-user picks a color and theme, the kitchen designer has to create the "look" that is within the budget allocation. In my opinion, especially in a tropical country, color choices can be bolder if it is an outdoor kitchen, but it has to blend well with the exterior of the house. Thank you, Sir, for creating video contents like this.

I think the reason blue and white remains so popular and timeless is due to the timelessness of other blue & white kitchen items, namely flow blue and blue willow china and pottery.

some very nice looks but nothing for a small kitchen in a north-facing 1930s flat. I believe that strong bright colours work best in rooms with less natural light as white feels too cold and dark is, well, too dark.

Hubs and I are moving soon and, with no mortgage, can finally have the kitchen we want instead of trying to get along with someone else’s design. I’m so excited but want to get the color scheme right for the room. I love your choices to describe the various kitchens and what to look out for when deciding. The blue and white is stunning, as is the green and walnut, but the bank of windows in each space (and the size of the space) keep them from looking dark and claustrophobic. I’ve never owned a space that large and probably never will but I think that I can still utilize color even in a galley with windows at only one end. The black cabinets were lovely; did you notice how they looked black in the corners but greenish once the light hit them? My favorite kitchens were the ones that were lighter in color, though. Woods and warm neutrals allow the food and implements to become focal points and create that sense of serenity…one should never be tense when wielding knives. 😊 I have saved all your videos on kitchen design/color and can’t wait to get started on my dream project. Thanks! ❤

I know this is an older video. Can I get your opinion? Ive got a bright spot to place my kitchen. How do you feel about dark oak brown kitchen with a silver sink, faucet and doorhandles and an ocher yellow wall? I'm not sure yet what kind of yellow works best in this situation. For now I mentioned ocher just to give you an idea what I'm aiming for, feel free to mention a different RAL paint colour.

I love the dark rich dramatic colours. I never liked a white kitchen (though it will always remain somewhat timeless, rather than a trend). I just find white kitchens and scandinavian decor bland and absolutely lacking in character. However, everyone has their own taste and as long as one's space makes them feel good, and more importantly, inspired...that is what is important.

I had an instant visceral repulsion to the tonal neutrals. As for what I like, walnut with warm white lime wash or crisp barely warm white with navy.

You can buy stock cabinets. The ones you put together yourself are actually quite nice. Get your knobs online-you don’t need custom ones. Do some or all of the demo yourself. Find a partial slab of quartz for your countertops (cheaper). It can be done with some careful shopping and some elbow grease.

My daughter and I have had to put up with boring, bland, even decrepit kitchens. Now we have the kitchen of our dreams. A Mondrian kitchen. Pure white with primary colours framed in narrow black just like his famous paintings. 😍. News is out in our tiny village and beyond. We have never had people coming to admire a kitchen before!! Obviously, our particular design will not be to everyone’s taste in their own home, but it shows how you can think outside the box. A little girl, our neighbour, was learning about Piet Mondrian in her primary school, so she has painted us a beautiful "Mondrian " picture! ❤😊

I moved into my home with a brand new gloss white kitchen, with the cheapest rather unconvincing butchers block laminate and faux-slate cushion flooring. From a distance, it looked OK but would never have been my first choice. However, financially constrained, I had to make the best of it. Fortunately, there were no wall tiles, which, going by the standard of fitting in the rest of the kitchen, would probably have needed to be removed - not good with plasterboard! Black granite with a metalic fleck (Angolan Gold) retained the contrast, yet surprisingly, that 'fleck' avoided the coldness some would expect. Keeping it clean has been surprisingly easy. As for the floor, slate, whether real or faux, shows every mark and spill, so it was in with the large expensive porcelain tiles - fortunately, a small floor doesn't need too many. Being a photograhic print of a natural material, it has some warmth, and the neutral colour and pattern mask any marks amazingly well. I considered many different wall tiles, but they were either too insipid or overpowered the space. In the end, I settled with boring large(ish) satin white, but added a strong double line of dark turquoise green mosaic tiles, which made more differrence than than they had any right to do - no doubt helped by the under cabinet lighting, which also highlights the metalic fleck in the granite. My sister finished it off with a semi reflective sponged paint finish on the untiled surface of one of the walls, also in turquoise green, but a lighter shade. Would have chosen this kitchen design had it been a clean slate, absolutely not, but there is no way that I would consider replacing it before it had to be. I could replace the white kick boards with something wild - bright orange, perhaps? 😂

Before making any colour choices, first ask yourself if you actually want to use the kitchen or just have something that looks good in a magazine photo. If you want to use it then the choices narrow considerably. First rule out anything dark and food coloured, next rule out costly trendy and overly irksome colours. Next rule out complex hard to clean and maintain surfaces. Next avoid sharp edges and things that catch clothing. Having a toddler lose an eye on a cupboard handle is something to be avoided by simply ruling out designs that are likely to cause injury. When you have the list of colours and materials and hardware then you can work on the best layout and lighting for the space you have. Remember if you use it you need to clean it. The easier it is to clean and maintain the better it is even if it isn’t a visual masterpiece.
