Oh yes, I can be witness to spatulas that are two pieces. I had a pair of pretty expensive spatulas that were perfect in my kitchen, even the colors were perfect. I used those for decades, but every time I used them, I washed them very thoroughly. I saw a video, I forget the ladies name. It was hidden hazards in the kitchen about 2 years ago. She held a plastic, two piece spatula and pulled the top off. O_O It was all black mold, it was horrid. So I was curious, went to the kitchen with a smile because I'm always a thorough cleaner...pulled off the top and OMG!!!!!! The next day I got me a pair of brand new silicone spatulas!!!! Feel so much better, because I bake a few times a week and a spatula is a must!!! Thanks so much for letting people know.

Omg! I'm glad you got them replaced!

Two-piece spatulas are designed to come apart and the pieces washed separately. They are not designed for mixing anything very thick or stiff, like meatloaf or bread dough, which might make the pieces separate. They’re more for mixing batters for baking.

Great channel! 2 comments: 1) TONGS: I use my ss tongs ALL the time, but WHY do they make them all with scalloped grabbers, and the hollow channel handles? I hate cleaning those! 2) SILICONE: I'm old and weird, I have just never gotten 'ok' with the new wave of 'Silicone'. I get the convenience, I've tried a few things, but aside from ice (& food) freezer molds and a spatula or 2, I just can't with Silicone + heat + food. Don't trust it. I even bought a set of silicone muffin pans for my 'keto buns', used once. hated it, returned them, lol. 90% of my kitchen is old-school SS, glass, wood & cast iron.

Best to buy all one piece kitchen tools also watch those tongs with the silicone tips crude gets stuck in them. Just pull off one of the tips, see for yourself.

Separate the spatula head when you wash them and let them dry. Just simple preventative measures.

These cooking people never address how these non metal or wood products do not hold up to pan frying or hot oil in general. And they are not sturdy enough to effectively scrap stuck on food bits in the bottom of a pan. I took a ride on the silicone train and had melted tips in less than a week. They're only good for food prep or hot water (

I just say 'NO' to rubber, plastic & silicone as much as possible. 90% of my utensils are stainless steel or wood.

If people CLEAN AND DRY their tools that mold and gunk will not be an issue. Save money, take care of your tools.

I thought, “Certainly he’ll talk wood cooking utensils.” He’s afraid of dirtying his hands with handwashing dishes…these modern kids will die of plastics in their body - “silicone” included. Lord, help the blind to see!!

The silicone brush makes perfect sense just pay attention to the quality of brush choice. Examin the 'bristles" so they aren't too thin and long. Cheap ones are. They crack and break off from repeated flexing. Avoid the designs that use a paint brush style metal ferrule ( the flat metal part that attaches the paint brush bristles to the handle) debris gets down between the silicone bristles block and the ferrule and it's disgusting. Also spread the rows of silicone bristles apart a little and examine between the bristles an rinse down at the base of the bristles where food can dry and not get washed out later in the washing.

Get a fish turner, ditch the spatulas. 😂

Silicone is fine, BUT it absorbes odors . There is no way to remove these odors. Worse yet, some of those odors ,such as garlic and SOAP, can leach into your food. If given a choice, silicone is definitely a "NO".

The silicone spatulas can still burn on edges.🤦♀️ I used and loved wooden spoons all my life until I noticed deep imbedded stains that grossed me out! Don’t know why I was blind to them before! I switched to silicone but not as good for the environment. I may switch back to wood and just swap out more often, find some use for the old ones. Garden markers?

Have you ever mineral oiled your wooden tools before? Helps the durability and anti-staining just like it does for wooden chopping boards! (And they tend to look Amazing after)

Anybody else think that using silicone utensils makes the food taste soapy? My daughter can always tell if I've used the silicone spatula or cooked on the silpat because the food tastes soapy to her. I've taken to cooking with wooden utensils and parchment paper to avoid this. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this phenomenon?
