thanks. i found that a WD-SN850X with an Acasis enclosure will read and write almost 10x faster than my samsung T5. and thumbs up for flanders monitors. my dm211 isnt huge, but im confident its professionally calibrated and sdi connections are better than hdmi.

Great video! I was hoping you can clarify something. You mentioned to use SSD’s as HDD’s will give you choppy playback. But then you recommended using the the SanDisk shuttle which carry HDD’s. 4:53

When physical drives are arranged in an array like this then speed isn't an issue. You can also have RAID configured with SSD which makes them even faster. Hope that explanation helps.
@HartenDylan Жыл бұрын
Hey Peter! Just wanted to add a little more info in case you were curious. Depending on how the Raid is setup (there are many types such as 0, 1, 5, 6, and many more), you effectively write and read from multiple drives at the same time. An SSD typically transfers data (writes and reads) at 500-550 MB/s, with the largest drives being about 8TB. If you're reading from HDDs they typically only read at 100-150 MB/s. However, because of certain Raid setup benefits they can pull from multiple hard drives at the same time, effectively multiplying the read rates by the number of drives in the Raid (generally speaking). In a 4 drive setup like this, you'd be hitting somewhere around 500 MB/s. Basically way more capacity with nearly all of the speed of and SSD and redundancy. Technically you can also Raid SSD drives or NVMe drives (1,000-10,000MB/s) and get ridiculous speeds, but usually aren't necessary and suffer from diminishing returns for editing purposes. If you're curious about Raid configurations check out Dave's Garage "How Raid works" to see what setup has the best balance of capacity/speed/reliability for your needs!

My MacStudio Ultra is the way to go, IMHO. BTW Too many shot changes, AND your eyeglass reflections were VERY distracting! Leaving of your shot front-facing would have been far less distracting, too; are you selling your face or your information; what is your story? The B-roll was helpful to describe what you are saying, but the headshot changes way too often.

Do we need to calibrate Apple monitors?
@colorgradingcentral2 жыл бұрын
They come with good factory calibration but I heard once from a calibration tech that they come with a little more contrast and a bit 'cooler' than reference so it wouldn't hurt to calibrate with a new ICC profile.

It is me again... gathering parts for Cinema Grade plugin. I was sent a link with supported GPU cards. I noticed that the NVIDIA RTX A4500 Was not on the list, but found it to be a great choice with 20gb Vram. Would you support this for your product when paired with windows pro 11? Using Proart z690 w i9 13900 intel. 128 ddr5 and samsung 980 ssd

We still have some work to do to support some of these cards with insane amounts of ram. It is on our priority list.

hey nice video, im currently in dilemma which monitor to choose betwee the two I can afford 1. LG 27UN880 Ultrafine Ergo 4K 2. Asus Proart Display PA278QV WQHD Purpose: Architecture visualisation/illustration/3d modelling. can you help?
@colorgradingcentral2 жыл бұрын
They both max out at 350 cd/m2, the LG covers 99% of the sRGB color space and the Asus 100%, and they both have 8 bit panels. The LG is a proper UHD monitor while the ASUS has a weird 2560x1440 resolution. If you ask me the one we recommend in the video seems like a better deal, being a 10bit panel, full UHD, 99% sRGB and 350 cd/m2, even reaching 400 cd/m at peak brightness. and the price is a middle point between those two other options.

FSI monotors is not a best choice for a personal purchase. quality/price ration is not the best. Sad, but true. There are other consumer friendly displays. Also huge OLED tv's are prooved to be a great starting point for beginner colorist, if you can offer calibration from professionals - give it a go and you will not regret. Its needs to be recalibrated from time to time and don't use (or try not use much) ourside of colour grading/video editing, and it will be a great investment. And it is much better price/performance ration for a personal purchase than FSI/Canon/ Sony displays. If I had a ton of money I will buy sony BVM, but probably recent PVM with double LCD layers will be more than enought for 95% of filmmaker work. But it is probably better to invest to a good computer display or OLED tv than broadcast display and spend rest of money on other gear. But been able to work on BVM (x300, oled discontinued model) was so great that I still dream to buy one for myself (x310) in my dreams =)))

4:09 A good cable is essential. But you mentioned on 4:19, USB-C. Well, USB-C exists in many colors and flavors. Like MP4 is for video, USB-C is that for cables. It is a container-format, if you will. MP4 can hold many different codecs and/or bit-rates. Make sure you have the right USB-C rating for fast data transfer. Choosing a cheaper one can be as good as a USB 2.0 or worse.
