@@nb-rc8nf don’t skate to get angry, you will be very disappointed in what you try. Just cruise around and have fun. Try different things, slappy on a curb, try to roll of a high ledge, go to a different location. Start off with easy stuff. Once I’m stressing over my abilities, I will focus on something lighter until I gather momentum back up.

Some of the only times I've ever learned a trick almost immediately were during games of SKATE. I don't know what it is but sometimes you just magically land a trick you've never even tried. Or sometimes you get a lot closer to a trick than you expected, and it inspires you to learn the trick later.
@troidberg
@troidberg 4 жыл бұрын
Some of my tips that I've learned after 9 years of skateboarding: 1- Tricks are sometimes like building blocks. I couldn't bs tailslide until I learned proper bs 5-0s. I never took the time to learn fs lipslides (although I could do harder tricks) but I decided to learn them one day to get better at fs tricks such as fs noseblunts or fs tailslides. I learned fs noseblunt the same session I learned fs overcrook. 2- Tricks will come and go, except your few go-to tricks. Therefore, if one of your tricks has been feeling good lately, take it to the next level. For instance, if you have been feeling good doing nose manuals, try a shuv out or a flip out, because next week you might not have them on lock anymore. Similarly, if you have been getting good crooks, try it on a handrail. 3- Some people might argue with this one, but landing on the board hurts way less than ditching/kicking out your board. So try to stick it if you believe you truly have the trick.

this first tip is exactly what i've been needing to hear. it feels like i can only land pop shuvs if i jump forward and this really inspired me to try controlling my board instead of letting it control me. plus the slow mo footage of your scoop should be really helpful in that process too

Man, I wish you a speedy recovery. Got my life changed by a herniated disc a few years back. I was bedridden for months, but proper physio and daily excercises got me going again, I even skated like 6 times last year (a big deal for me, thought I'd never skate again)! Anyway, (try to) enjoy the recovery process, and I hope you'll be crushing it again in no-time!

So true, worn out boards and shoes feel so different. My personal tip for skating is you don’t just skate with your feet, your whole body is involved. How you have your weight proportioned on your board, the way you throw your arms. Also timing, you gotta time when you pop flick, and jump. Especially for tre flips. try different feet positioning, try having your heels hang out more, angle your feet different. Put your foot more forward ect. For flip tricks you gotta bend your foot as much as possible before you flick. And if you really want to get good you gotta spend more time skating,

Stepping away from a trick when you can't quite get it is honestly so helpful. Let the muscle memory and effort of the attempts integrate itself for a bit, then come back to the trick either the next day or even a week or two later once you've taken the mind (and frustration) off it. 🙏

But trying on my old board is alot better! And the key is to try different foot positions and not get stuck on the wrong position over and over because you will ruin your muscle memory lol trust me I know lol but I love how you broke it down man EXCELLENT TIPS BRO👍✌also I know what your going through with the back issue man I have had lower back surgery because of slipped disc's! I agree with a particular point you spoke about being that you shouldn't focus on the jumping back or forward to compensate for landing a trick. Learning varial heelflips eventually taught me the issue itself is my front shuv technique being jumping so far behind me that it's impossible to get both the proper height and full rotation. If I had learnt front shuvs a little better than I would have a much easier time.

@skatehacks I’ve dealt with back issues for years. L5/S1 disc has been the worst. Anyway, the thing that helped me most was to do core exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the spine. This is after YEARS of injury and reinjury. I now do 100 pushups a day just as preventative maintenance. It also helps my skateboarding. @kneesovertoesguy has a great KZbin channel as well for strengthening and conditioning legs - of your ankles, knees, and hips aren’t bulletproof then your back is next in line to get injury. Good luck and speedy recovery!

Landing on the board however will take some actual practice with them, but I use that time on kickflips still.

In what way? You mean like you stretch your legs when jumping up? Try to throw your arms up as high in the air as you possibly can right after you pop the tail. If this fails, try to crouch, jump up, throw your arms up as high as can be and try to retract your knees into your chest. You don't need a board to practice this necessarily. Point is, you should get comfortable in a 'crouched position up high in the air' basically. Last but not least, the later you flick your flip tricks, the more likely your legs will end up stretched. It might be timing related, try to flick earlier.

Watch the heelflip tutorials that he did, I think one of those is called how to fix your heelflips or something like that, he gives a tip that can help you, your shoulders need to be aligned with the board, some people say jump backwards but that's weird, it's more like keeping your back straight. I don't know how you place your feet but I learned how to do ollies setting them like a heelflip, then I just kick my foot out and that's how I got em, both regular and switch.

Getting a board with more concave really helps. I was practicing heelflips and i could only land with my front foot on my board until i did it with my friends board and landed dead bolts lol. Also lighter wheels helps but it all boils down to how you practice i guess

I’ve notice I can skate most shoes except vans or bulky shoes. Thin shoes rip faster but feel better for me as I can feel the board with my feet more

The comment on rest is profound 🤌 your brain is trying out all these options, that time off allows it to learn which ones are working, your body and subconscious learning together 🙌
