Excellent, Brian!!! I have two older Eufy 2C cameras, one solar-powered that I bought simply because they are the most recent cameras with native Homekit support. I like that because I use Apple TVs for streaming and Homekit cameras pop up on the screen when motion is detected. I really hope the S3's will get Homekit support and hope you'll do another video when/if they do. By the way, showing the 3rd party mount options was really a good idea and appreciated. Thanks.

Great review with lots of information I need. I am probably going to buy this system. I now have three older Nest powered cameras that I record 24x7. They work great, but I want to add more cameras where they are not easy to power. These would work, but I would miss the 24x7 recording. I have two questions. How long can you run the live stream? How long will it record a long event?
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
You can run the live stream basically for as long as you want. The app will complain a little bit I've never been kicked out. As for the event, 2 minutes straight and then a 5s break. Then 120s again! They should have a 24/7 recording option for you soon if you power them with USB c though

This looks like a HUGE improvement over the SOLO S40 CAMS that I have. The "Decrypting from local storage" has been irritating. Motion detected, full preview, click on it and the "Decrypting from local storage" takes so long, anyone stealing something would be long gone before I could view what the system detected and that's assuming the clip loads and doesn't error which happens a lot.
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
It's been pretty impressive so far! That thing you're describing though could be weaker connections between the cameras. Maybe check if there's some interference?
@coryscomputerrepairАй бұрын
@@AutomateYourLife "Decrypting from local storage" is not a connection issue. It is what Eufy implemented when getting called out for not encrypting their data. Some android users have side loaded older versions of the Eufy security app before this setting was implemented as its turned on by default(cant disable it) within Control Center>Video Encryption>Local Storage Encryption in the current versions of the app. The option to disable it is greyed out. The Solo S40 does not use the homebase so the decryption is done within the camera itself, which might have something to do with it.
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
@@coryscomputerrepair oh that sounds right from the camera standpoint. I forgot those didn't use the bases
@coryscomputerrepairАй бұрын
@@AutomateYourLife Yeah, I realized after the fact its a big deal as the bases, at least the Homebase 3 has a quad core CPU in it that handles all the decrypting which is why its almost instant to play. With what is already out there regarding Eufy's security issues, has there been any investigation done on whether or not the S3 and the base station addresses them? I really like the concept of wireless solar powered 4k, my difficulty in trusting the vendor however is keeping me from getting them. Also, does Eufy say how many cameras can be paired with the base station? The video shows two. Is that the limit?
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
14 is the limit per homebase, so it's a lot :). I don't know that it would work as well at that level though! As for the security issues, I've seen some addressed and that's why I was willing to make this video. It's hard to say everything's patched up and that would be impossible to prove. They've made clarifying statements about privacy too, which I'd say was one of the biggest gaps during that whole fiasco. I feel better, enough so to show them to you. Explain the difference/advantage of having radar detection? How is it different from pir?
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
Sure! PIR needs movement and sees Infrared. Can get false positives but can also miss minor changes in IR. Radar captures objects in an area, and does so regardless of movement. It's a presence sensor for outdoors. When applied, both of those options turn on the camera. Then the camera analyzes and decides to record and notify or not. So they'll catch more!

What’s the point of reviewing a 4k camera but uploading your video to KZbin in 1080p?

Based on their historic security issues (never admissed, explained, or apologized for)! - I just do not trust Eufy.
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
I did see some fixes go in. They certainly struggled PR-wise with that situation. I get your take though Gerry, but I did take those fixes into consideration here before reviewing their gear again :)

🤦🏻 Don’t you have wood screws in Canada Brian🤷🏻

Of course, why?
@benjaminmaiden1347Ай бұрын
@@AutomateYourLife Why did you use plasterboard plugs in wood, vs just screwing directly into the wood? Seemed like an unnecessary step...
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
@@benjaminmaiden1347 Yeah we didn't need those but I was demonstrating the drill bit needed and the method for that kind of an install (into drywall or siding) Just for completeness guys!

I have eufy cameras and they are so unreliable even when full battery and close to the hub. Miss over 50% of motion

Something going on there! Maybe try a clean or maybe try another camera? These are missing nothing.

Eufy has the worst screws in the world. I've spent 3 grand so far and had to purchase my own screws. They strip so easy it's ridiculous. The camera is good but not great. If you trying to read license plates you'll be disappointed
@AutomateYourLifeАй бұрын
15 fps won't let you grab anything moving. That's the biggest gap today.

@@AutomateYourLifewhat cameras do you recommend that you have reviewed which have a higher fps in order to catch license plates? Thanks

There are some reports. Wouldn't call it widespread. Eufy does have cameras that use different frequencies!
