When making a bowgun, make sure you check the ammo types AND how it can fire or reload those ammo types. A bowgun that 'can' use cluster bombs may still be really bad at them, while a gun with bad spread or pierce ammos may still have benefits that can make it perfect for your build! Every gun is different, and those small changes can make a HUGE difference. Being able to fire while moving is a massive boost and can help with survivability & by extension raise your dps. Also, typically speaking, only the lvl 3 of the ammo type you're using really matters, (except status ammos, full sets of those are always nice) so just bring crafting materials for those and don't worry about lvl 2's. Also, don't forget that the special ammos have a short reload animation after you fire them. Wyvernheart, the machine gun one, gets me hit a lot when I get greedy with it XD

Basically with bowguns people tend to focus on one type of ammo despite there being multiple types in any given gun. They then use the buff that improves the power of that ammo type, along with any skills that improves the functioning of that gun for example recoil or reload speed. After that you can fit in any other skills you want. It's really not that complicated you just need to get accustomed to the new skills

I use it a lot to clear out a zone as the fight starts. Spread Up boosts shrapnel ammo as well. It's also kind nice midway through the fight for getting the last bit in for part breaks, so if you need a rathalos wing or something, they're really helpful.

Great vids, a friend dragged me into MH: World a year or so ago, I sucked at it. Got Rise today as it's on steam sale, heavy bowgun was what I used back then, I really couldn't get the hang of melee and kept getting my ass handed to me. I play city builders and colony sims for the most part but I'm trying to make the effort of trying to enjoy this game with my friend, these vids are exactly what it says on the tin, quick knowledge easily digestible while my mate is persuading me to play the music drum thing. Think I'm gonna stick with ranged or try out the insect glaive.

The hunting horn is surprisingly simple now and super powerful! It's one of the few weapons that literally has instructions on the screen in real fights of how to play 😂

Don’t forget that wyfernblasts from the LBG can be placed on top of monsters while Bein airborne. Combine this with piercing ammo to line up a nice combo

Bowguns have always been OP. It's all about finding the right gun, ammo type and complementary armor skills though to make it work.

I think you haven’t touch the Loyal Thunder Zinogre HBG for it’s nice Spread hit, and Rajang Rapid Sticky with the evade reload mechanic. World’s bowgun is just as good as Rise’s bowgun i think, just different playing style because of wirebugs, while world’s got it’s grapling hook for soften monster body

@@lawnylawnington idk maybe i wasnt using the correct bowgun, and i used to use heavy but now ive just used bowgun and it seems like it just hits better and for more idk maybe my first monster hunter was world, and rise just seems better to me

Playing with the bowguns is like playing a puzzle game…except the solution is always “use gun on monster” But really the greatest strength of both guns is their versatility that no melee weapon can compete against. You can potentially poison/sleep/paralyze/stun and still pump them full of normal or elemental berries to the face. You pay for it in durability, but hey, gotta have some kind of trade off.

I’ve ultimately chosen the LBG as my secondary, being a hunting horn main. It has the same dodge rolling evade tactic and has similar movement speed to the hunting horn, so it was way easier for me to pick up than bow since I already know the timings to evade things. I wanted a ranged weapon because Volvidion and Tigrex hunts are awful with the hunting horn. These monsters are incredibly spammy and the hunting horn’s animations are just too slow. I love it for every monster except the super aggressive ones though.

Ultimately with the hunting horn, it seems like the slower the monster, the better it does. I might co-main these weapons- LBG for fast/spam attackers and HH for slow and strong attackers. I love the hunting horn ez combo of forward L+x>a>x>a>x…repeat x and a ad infinitum on the head until the monster gets up, feels so op to be that simple on slow monsters. Seems like I can get great damage with that without being very good at wire bug stuff, though I am getting better at timing ZL+a. My main problem with hunting horn is ZL+X- I do that right into attacks most of the time because the finishing animation is long as heck. These are the two default wire bug skills you get at the start- maybe I need to unlock more. Overall I’m having loads of fun though!

hey there thanks for your guides. Looking for a 2nd ranged weapon alt other than bow. Within least HR 5 or 6 getting the hang of things. Learning melee's been bit tricky (Switch/Long/Greatsword.) Heavy bowgun going to be a blast, when you have mats from other monsters & don't know what to invest which gear/weapon. Found out already 'Volvidon, Anjanath & (1st appear) Magnamalo' already OP starters weapons. Saving zeni $$$ for sure.

@@KingRobRool I think they're talking about how Light bowgun has more aerial play and can use the little mines that it has in a couple different ways. But for Heavy, it's a gun, you shoot things and try not to get run over XD The mobility of light bowgun makes certain skills way more useful, such as Sneak Attack or Adrenaline Rush, but heavy bowgun needs more recoil and reload speed deco's to make the gun useable in the first place, so your options are a bit more limited. But Heavy can make better use of crit chance boosts by having a higher base damage, which can leave a monster reeling from the shear damage, meaning mobility doesn't matter as much.
