Awww, I want to help you understand the science about the "crafts" that didn't work the way you wanted them to. Because I'm a Science teacher, and I know some of my students will try and do some of these 5 Minute Crafts. I haven't tried the shaving foam one, but I'm guessing the point is to make the food colouring take longer to drop into the water. You could also just use really cold water, or try dropping food colouring into a thicker medium like jelly. I like this trick better; I think it would work with another thick clear substance like hair gel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJaTmGuOiM-pgbc The milk one worked okay. Putting the dye closer to the centre helps. A higher percentage of fat in the milk also helps, since the movement is caused by the surfactant in the dishwashing liquid breaking apart the coating on the fat molecules in the milk. It's tastier to fuck up the milk so the fat particles stick together though - a.k.a. make butter. Yep, you need alka seltzer or another tablet that makes fizzy bubbles for that to work. If you're poor/don't want to waste drugs, try putting raisins in soft drink, so they "dance" being lifted up by the carbonation. Styrofoam "dissolves" in acetone. The substance styrofoam is made of contains lots of air bubbles; when the acetone breaks down the styrofoam structure, the air pockets are released and you're left with a tiny amount of styrofoam compound. Kind of like how cotton candy "disappears" into water. We found out the hard way that a material we were working with had acetone in it when the students were trying to build something from styrofoam, and the bits the substance touched started to "melt" the styrofoam. Ooops. Waterproofing spray takes a while to dry, and is hella expensive for a project like this. Just use cooking oil, like in the video. Then you can still play with your hydrophobic sand whilst it's wet. Moose used to sell that shit as "Magic Sand", and have us try to make turd castles out of the stuff. I think the commercial stuff contains some sort of wax, I can't remember. Long unnecessary comment, done.

Also they used aluminium tray and acetone and acetone with aluminium produces heat which leads to breaking up stuff. This method with a cotton ball was used when removing gel nails or when you wish to clean something. However it's not recommended as you can see in the video they use gloves.

For the lava lape one, I did it as a project for my science fair in 4th grade. I used oil oil and alcaseltzer tablets and water. It work and it was super cool when I put it in a sealable container and flipped it up and down.
