Personally I would probably rather go with the PBO2 curve optimizer strategy that you outlined in the full video. Or at least try it at first just to see if you got really lucky with the silicon. Was able to set -30 offset for one CCD and -26 for the other while being fully stable in all workloads. Compared to this strategy it was a win-some-lose-some situation, where heavily multi-threaded tasks benefited and single threaded tasks lost by a bit in some tests (e.g. CPU-Z ST scored 5-10 points lower, but SuperPI was 0.7s faster for some reason). As an addition to your guide I'd probably recommend Actually Hardcore Overclocking's guide to Ryzen 7000 memory overclocking.

I have set up a nice OC with eclk method on my 7900X and strixe X670. Boost to 5,9GHz on 2 best CCD0 cores. 2100 in CINEBENCH R23 single thread (incredible). 30700 in Cinebench R23 multithread . Bclk2 = 105MHz Max CPU boost clock override = -25MHz CO => +5 all cores. Problem is that when it comes to gaming and heavy CPU games like MW3 for example, all cores boost max to 5,3GHz to 5,4GHz. I loose the boost clock limiter algorithm at 5,5GHz all cores when more than 4 cores are active …. if you have a golden 7900X and a custom loop for cooling, maybe you could recover 5,5GHz all cores while gaming with eclk method….but this is for 5% maybe of 7900X on the market. So for an average CPU or bad binned one, it is better to go for PBO2 and CO method which keep 5,5GHz all cores while gaming, but with less performances in Cinebench than with eclk method, which I don’t care.

why didnt you try and pull down memory timings further? if the kit is rated at 6400, i would think there would be more headroom to lower to cl30 or cl28 at 6000. that should give a pretty heavy boost? also have you tried tweaking the sub timings? ive seen reports of that giving as much as 10% improvement on its own

Similar to how the overclocking capability of every CPU is different, also the capability of every core is different. And similar to how the overclocking capability is different, also the undervolting capability of every core is different. Hence, why we use different values for each core.

@@SkatterBencher amazing, I can't wait! I currently have a 12600K (@ all core 5.3) but I'm tempted to sell it and get the 13700K but I can't decide if I will see that much of an improvement over the overclocked chip I already own, although obviously I get more cores. Plus I'm only using DDR4 and it seems a lot of the performance for Raptor Lake comes from using really fast DDR5 so will a lot of the gains be lost here by my slower memory (3200 cl16)? I mainly used it for content creation rather than gaming but I've not seen any good content creation comparisons between DDR4 and DDR5 on Raptor Lake.

Awesome work! I am planing to buy a new Ryzen cpu (maybe 7950x3d in January) but I am worried about RAM performance because I want to have 64GB and if I put 4x16GB in the motherboard it will lose speed. My guess is that I have to buy an 2x32gb kit but the best DDR5 I have found at this size are only 6000 Mhz speed. In your opinion would it be enough to do overclock with that RAM? (G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO Serie RGB (AMD Expo) 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) 288 pines SDRAM DDR5 6000 CL32-38-38-96)
@slavefeet57
@slavefeet57 Жыл бұрын
6000 so far has been the sweet spot anyway. Also ram speeds with the 3D chips aren't as important with non 3D. You already mentioned the duel channel problem. If you absolutely need 64GBs yes the 2x32 at 6000 would absolutely be the way to go. It will perform much faster than 4x16gb regardless of the ram because of the architecture limits on duel channel.

With all these positive CO values, temperatures should increase and then Cinebench multi score should be low…. I don’t really understand how you can have this bump in CBR23 Multiscore with positive CO.
@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher Жыл бұрын
Your logic is entirely correct. The only thing that's missing is the 105 MHz eCLK. While the Precision Boost algorithm will force a decrease of frequency because the higher temperature, with eCLK I force the frequency to be higher. Let's say the original frequency is 5000 MHz and it's been reduced to 4875 MHz due to temperatures. With my 105 MHz eCLK, I actually force it to run at 5119 MHz (4800 x 1.05). So ultimately the performance will be higher because the frequency is higher. I know it's a bit of a weird one since we've come to equate CO with undervolt, but for Ryzen 7000 there's a viable OC strategy for positive CO and eCLK.
@genergia
@genergia Жыл бұрын
@@SkatterBencher Thank you very much. I will try this eclk method, but I am not too optimistic with my 7950X sample. It is not a good sample for sure. I already tried Medium Load Boostit and I crash, mainly in games and specifically FPU test of Aida (reboots). I will try first eclk with positive CO at 30 for all cores and let see.
@SkatterBencher
@SkatterBencher Жыл бұрын
I would suggest to watch my longer SkatterBencher video where I explain the eclk OC strategy in depth kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZCkfquMmLhleq8 I wouldn't recommend starting with CO +30 because you'll then be limited to finetune each core.
