Just bought a used thunderbolt Arrow interface a week ago, and bought a thunderbolt card for my windows PC to plug it into. I bought this plugin with one of the deals that was going on recently, as well as the standalone neve preamp. A lot of people will say UAD has been surpassed, but i'm really not so sure. I've always wanted to try these DSP powered plugins, and now that I have all I can say is WOW. They really do sound amazing. And particularly with the gate on the 88RS, it is one of the most precise gates i've heard in a channel strip plugin. I've tried the Brainworx channel strips and while they are great for the TMT functionality, I'd always find myself fiddling around with the gate on my own vocals especially in noisier environments. But the gate on the 88RS is just so responsive it actually blew me away. A little thing I know, but still. And running it through the unison insert makes my cheap AT2035 sound like a thousand bucks.

at 3:20 whats going on with those virtual outs? what exactly is that being used for - i dont get it any help would be appreciated

Well if you dont do that then, you might have to lower the master volume in protools In order to hear the incoming signal louder than the music coming from pro tools. If you have the overall mix of protools coming into a virtual stero channel in console you can lower the volume there. I hope it makes sense. So is not really necessary but it could be useful if you dont want to keep going back and forward and just focus on the console app.

Just listen to it how it sounds, mic pre can give you some colour that recorded vocal might benefit from.

Use it when you want to be able to use the full features of the plugin throughout your mix. Turn it off if you want to have maximum DSP usage.
