Thank you!! I had MDDS from a cruise that lasted two weeks about three years ago. I was miserable and didn’t know what to do to make it stop. I took a 4 hour flight last week that was almost non stop turbulence and somehow that triggered the same issue as the cruise. I couldn’t survive another week with it so I went searching for a treatment. This worked for me and I couldn’t be more grateful.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have had MDDS since returning from a cruise over 11 weeks ago. Nothing else I've tried made any difference (including Clonazepam and some other vestibular exercises) but after doing this 4-6 times a day for about 5 days my symptoms have subsided significantly, and I almost feel back to normal. It is such a huge relief. So happy I found this video!

I've had MdDs and Vestibular Migraines for 5 years. I must say that the information you've shared on your website and channel has made more sense and done more for me than any doctors/specialists that I've been to and with no cost! I must confess I haven't done this exercise 8 times in a day, more like 4-5 times a day. I could tell right away it was working and now 4 days in my dizziness has been coming down in intensity. I play my favourite 4 minute song (which is ironically called "Dizzy") and do this exercise to the beat. Thank you so much for all that you do and for freely sharing it with the world.

I had this rocking dizziness for a month. I couldn't identify what kind of dizziness I had. I was feeling normal while driving or walking and feeling dizzy while sitting. I went to many hospitals(eye hospitals and ENT) and no one could understand what I was trying to say. I was going crazy. Even vertigo tablets didn't help. I couldn't concentrate on anything. I was afraid I had a serious disease which doctors couldn't even diagnose. since I had never experienced dizziness previously I thought every dizziness is like this rocking feeling later I realized that this rocking dizziness is different and found that I had MDDS. I felt like I was always on a boat. Later I found this helpful video. I am very much thankful for this video. I did this head roll exercise as said in the video. the symptoms reduced drastically. I am feeling good and healthy now. thank you. you are my saviour. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I've had chronic dizziness for 2 years now and it is incredibly debilitating, isolating, and emotionally painful. My husband has been my carer and support system as well and has helped me through this time; I can imagine your immense grief and am very sorry for your loss. I hope you are able to carry all his help and love with you forward through your life. I would love to know if you got any relief after trying this exercise. @@TheSteadyCoach I’m just so happy that I found your channel. I’m kinda at a loss now though because I’m not “dizzy” anymore normally, but I am seeing things in a dream-like state. Moving my head around makes my stomach sick and I’ve got basically no appetite. I’m still doing these exercises as an attempt to stop this “dream vision” (almost feels like I’ve smoked pot, the way it slightly changes the appearance of the world). I’ve been doing a lot of reading about shallow breathing and how it affects the body. It made me aware of the fact that I often hold my breath, like I’m always bracing for some sort of “impact”. I think my fight or flight response triggered the original episode, but is it possible that this sort of breathing would cause my vision to be distorted? It’s been about two months of this on and off (some days I can drive and notice nothing, some days I have trampoline legs and can’t hardly get around), but mostly I feel like I’m in a daze and I’m just really tired and unable to eat. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated as I don’t have a doctor that fully understands or seems confident in their ability to help (medical doc or therapist). Thank you for all that you do!!!!!

@@kcastrop also I did it ONE time to make it go away for several days. Since it’s returned I continue to just do it on bad days, around 3 times per day. I do it in a room with low lighting and I try to control my breath from my diaphragm while doing it. I hope this helps you!!!

If you think about a song that has a clear rhythm, maybe with drums. you can hear the beat usually and count 1,2,3,4. That's the beat. so she wants you to use a metronome app (it just makes a click noise at whatever speed you set it at to help you keep the beat and thus the pace at which you do the movements) I think she said set it at 10 beats per minute or maybe 6?) That means that in the space of 60 seconds it's going to click 10 times (listen to the video again cuz it might be 6 times per minute) So when you do the head movement she wants you to go through the full movement (left, center, right, center) one time in between each click on the metronome. so, start the metronome, look at the stripes and when you're ready start your movements as soon as the metronome clicks. When the metronome clicks, start you motion (left, center, right, center) and be done before the metronome clicks again, but not way before. The idea is to do the motion at a very steady speed doing the entire movement one time in between the clicks. Keep going until your timer goes off after 3-5 minutes. I hope that helps.@@loveconquersall143

And i did. whenever i feel the sensation or While doing some simple yoga and light workout i keep telling my self: its okay brain we are okay now. We are at land we are not moving.its okay lets learn again together. It was reducing bit by bit day by day. I got it on last 23 Oct 2022 after a diving course( i didnt have sleep the night before it and was so scared and panicky underwater) Now i'm happy to share that i am okay now! I cannot wait to try this, all I’ve been seeing is benzodiazepines, and I really don’t want to go down that path. This is so surprising to me, I’ve never been on a cruise, but I fished competitively on bass boats, and it would always resolve within 24 hours. It’s been about 15 years since I’ve been on a boat regularly, so imagine my surprise after getting off a five day cruise four days ago and I feel like my head wants to tip me over to the right, the bed feels like I’m floating on an air mattress in the middle of the lake, and every time I turn my head I feel like tipping over the direction I looked. So strange. Im really hoping this helps and I will come back to share my results. Blessing to you!

Hi! I started this exercise after 1 month of perceived bobbing up and down so I guess that is more of a front to back motion. I was on an airplane for 8+ hours and had a very turbulent flight due to the trade winds. We had some very deep plunges. I actually was really chill. I slept during part oft he flight and wore my Air Pods Pro earbuds for most of the flight. I chewed gum for most of the trip. I had not noticed any ear "popping" or "plugging". As soon as I got off the plane, I noticed the perception of motion. It continued every since. I had an ENT exam, MRI, neurologist exam, and am scheduled for a vestibular exam (tests) on 12/20. Everything appears normal so far so I may have this MdDs. I did get motion sickness on a small cruise ship many years ago but the perceived motion stopped within a day after debarment. Although my motion sensation is not left to right, but more of a bobbing front to back I was ready to give anything a try. I have been experiencing extreme fatigue, trigeminal nerve pain, very painful muscle tightness in the neck, occipital region, and TMD on only the right side. I'm guessing that my muscles on my right side are very tight from trying to make the motion that is perceived stop. Based on that, I started with the stripes going left to right. Completed my 5 days, 2 days ago and I've experienced no relief. Should I try the right to left now or can you refer me to another video that may be more helpful? I have lots of questions but I'd rather not share online. Do you ever do video consultations?
@TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl, I'm sorry you didn't get relief. I have heard anecdotally from some viewers that they tried the stripes up and down for bobbing. I can't specifically recommend that because the studies I cited here did not look at that, but you can consider it. I do video consultations but have an extremely long waiting list at the moment and I do not usually prescribe exercises to help people these problems- my focus is on helping people with stress and emotional distress. Good day, I've read your comment and im sorry to hear that this exersive had no relief. My girlfriend has been suffering with this problem for close to 2 months now. We took a trip to the UK and she started experiencing this about a week after returning home. The total flight time there and back was roughly 34 hours. She too has been to multiple people including an ENT and is going to a neurologist soon and possible MRI. Have you managed to find any relief to this? If so could you possibly share?

@The Steady Coach I had a bad recurrence of BPPV last August. It was very complex and took 6-8 sessions with my VT to clear it. But then I was left with PPPD (and also we think Vest Migraine) I am a lot better and am working on your program. Here is my question. My biggest issue is driving for more than about 30 minutes. This includes being a passenger. It is not so much the visual as it is the sense of instability when I stop (similar I think to MDDS) . Do you suppose this exercise would help with that? I usually take Meclizine if I have to drive far especially if I'm on my own and I also bring my cane. But I'd like to be free to drive two 1/2 hours to see my grandchildren. Thanks

I only seem to have these problems when I am walking or standing. When I am sitting or laying down, I don't notice them at all. It's really affected my walking to the point that I cannot walk on highly polished (slippery looking) floors or smooth concrete. If I am walking on carpet or flat grass, I feel like myself again. I sometimes get waves of dizziness rush through my head when I lay down or get up with nastygmus (my eyes move to the left of their own accord and I can only pull them back for them to go back). I understand that you're my doctor but any advice would be so helpfull. Thank you !

Thanks for sharing, learning more about Dai's work myself. Reading the literature it did caution that direction of the optokentic stripes was important (linked at the bottom). I've seen people use Fukada step test to try and help determine "dominant" direction. What are your thoughts on this? Trying to understand the concept better. Best, Drew PT, DPT Mucci V, Perkisas T, Jillings SD, Van Rompaey V, Van Ombergen A, Fransen E, et al. . (2018). @TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Drew! Yes, the direction of the stripes matters according to Dai et al, but sometimes people aren't able to determine the dominant direction or they have an inconclusive Fukuda result. In that case, I think they recommend (or maybe it was a different author discussing the technique, I can't recall) picking a direction and switching it if it doesn't work. I feel a little weird about telling people to do a Fukuda themselves because my channel is devoted primarily to "neural circuit dizziness" such as PPPD and my viewers tend to be extremely anxious; false positives are so common with the Fukuda. I have seen many clients who were diagnosed with a unilateral hypofunction on the basis of a Fukuda alone, but then advanced vestibular testing revealed no such weakness. This is just my bias here on this channel, however! In practice, if I saw someone in office, I would absolutely do a Fukuda; I would just stop short of telling them what it means if they had not yet done advanced testing.

I can't advise you since I'm not your healthcare professional but I can tell you anecdotally that people sometimes feel worse when they start and then get better. If it doesn't work, please see this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoKnd3qsfayIiMU and consider taking the course, it is free and explains the entire method. thesteadycoach.com/free-course

I hope you respond, but can you also raise the stripes? Because my dominant side is forward. and why do you have to move your head back and forth? Can't seem to find an answer anywhere about it. because then I know if I have to move back and forth up and down.
@TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach Жыл бұрын
I can't answer that unfortunately because that is not what the researchers looked at. The movement side to side is based on what the researchers found worked best for resetting the vestibulo-ocular reflex.

Hi I just started today. As I type this I am on Day 10 of being off a cruise. I still heard it usually goes away in less than a month and my MDDS levels are only at a 1-2 now (they were at a 3-4 last week due to a head cold on top of it.). I do have swaying/rocking back n forth but I think what's more annoying is this pulling sensation. Because my levels are so low, do you think I will be able to get rid of it sooner AND do you recommend I do anything else? I am already doing some light walking + Powerade has helped as well. Thanks! :)

The BEST recommendation I have is to not let it freak you out. Land sickness happens in 80% of people and it tends to be stress that keeps it going. Self care, self compassion, looking into any stressful events that might have prompted this (prior to the cruise), difficult family situations- realize those things can put your brain into a state of hyper alertness that can keep sensations going.

Kateri, I have this same experience. Same feelings and symptoms. How are you feeling and did anything work for you? I’m incredibly anxious & struggling. I’ve been off the cruise for 7 days. Many cruises- first time feeling this terrible.

@@Km798g hi I’m actually still having the symptoms, I’m on week 6! They’re jumping between a one and a three right now. The lines didn’t really do much for me and Neither did vestibular therapy. I’m actually on Klonopin right now. I know some people say that it only masks the symptoms, but I have heard some people that actually go into remission with it. I feel like this is helping me the most and I will know by the end of next week.

@@Km798g the other thing is that I was starting to have some sadness and anxiety on and off and the Klonopin is really helping me calm me down while this goes in remission. you really have to do what’s best for you.❤️

Hello Doctor, I have MDDS and I really need to do this exercise. However I am rocking forward and back not side to side and my dominate side is back. How should I hold my iPad to see the the strips? Please advise. I really appreciate.

Hi Leila, the research for this exercise is specifically on the rocking side to side so I can’t tell you how to do this differently. Anecdotally people have said they switch the direction of the stripes.

Hello madam, a question please, do you mean that the first exercise vor gaze stabilization is ineffective or good? How long is the re-exercise per day?
@TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Soufiane, I'm not sure I understand. Watching the stripes and doing the side to side head movement should be done at the same time. You'll do them over and over again for about 3-5 minutes per session. Then you will do as many sessions as you can during the day, up to 8 times.

@@TheSteadyCoach Thank you, but what about the first side-to-side exercise to fix the look, is it useful or not? exercises for gaze stabilization vor
@TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach 3 жыл бұрын
@@soufiane4256 nope, no need to do it on its own. It doesn't really help with gaze stabilization. For that, I would do movements of the head while looking at something that is not moving.

I have been swaying front to back and side to side. After doing this, so far it has stopped the side to side swaying! Which I'm very thankful for! I'm tempted to try the stripes up and down to get rid of the forward swaying, but I'm scared it will reset the side to side swaying somehow lol.

There should be a BPM (beats per minute) dial that you set to 10.

Hi dokter Yo, is it always 5 days? Or is it a life time 8x daily exercise if it helps? Or only repeat the 5 days if you have these symptoms again later on? I have pppd but with a rocking motion to the left. Is it useful to try?
@TheSteadyCoach
@TheSteadyCoach 2 жыл бұрын
It's always 5 days and I have not found it to be very useful for PPPD. You can try it, but if it increases focus on and worry about the symptoms, it's counterproductive.

You can actually try bending side to side from the waist rather than using your neck. The important thing is the angle of your eyes and ears.

Is it a good idea to try this exercise with pppd? My symptoms started after a month of dizziness attacks that felt lile severe floating. Then I ended up in chronic dizziness as well as imbalance. I m doing rehab for over a year now, im lot better but symptoms still here. My symptoms are noticeable when I sit and still like sleeping. I do feel good when Im moving but my balance is bad. I do good in car as well. And my symptoms also changes sometimes with neck movements. I do have constant swaying and floating and imbalance.

Hi Manu, this exercise hasn’t been studied for PPPD so I can’t give good advice unfortunately. If you were my client, I’d probably tell you to skip it and work on the other things on my channel.
