Thank you for talking about the whole "boring" issue! So many of my inlaws from Chicago say that, and compare all of Indy to cornfields. I have lived in Indy all of my life, and have never felt like my city is boring. We have the most monuments behind DC btw... we have fun night life, too... B-Rip, Fountain Square, Mass Ave, and even the near west side and those sketchy areas! There's lot of places to take your kids for a fraction of the price you'd pay in Chicago with better parking! The only thing that sucks is Indiana just recently made it legal to purchase alcohol on Sundays so it will probably take forever for it to legalize recreational cannabis, and at 30% tax, Indiana could make bank!
@LivingInIndianapolis4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Indiana and Indy are certainly not boring. Plenty to offer. And yes... don't hold your breath about legalizing cannabis. It will be quite some time. Buying alcohol on Sunday took a long time but liquor stores put up a fight against that for years. Although, you can't buy before noon on Sunday.
@Rickswars Жыл бұрын
I won't visit Chicago at night time, too many murders, crimes, and robberies highest in the nation.indianapolos has plenty of great Italian restaurants, and steak houses too! and the city isn't over populated with the highest sales tax in the country Chicago... OVERPRICED EVERYTHING!

Conner Prairie, breweries in everywhere, Indiana State and Marion county fairgrounds, Fort Ben, Geist Reservior, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, downtown canal . . . All things to see. Indy also offers diversity. Indy Pride, Black Expo, Jazz festivals, Comic Con, Gen Con, a number of events held at or around the convention center. Genuine Mexican cuisine available on all fours sides of town. The freeway system is easier to navigate than Atlanta or Cincinnati. If you are flying in, you will appreciate a smooth transition through Indianapolis International.

I lived in "Nobletucky" (if you know you know) for about a year back in 2016, after relocating from California, and spent many a day off exploring all that Indianapolis and the surrounding area had to offer. I absolutely fell in love with the place (maybe not the humidity). Indianapolis is such a hidden gem that is written off by so many people that have never set foot in its boundaries. That isn't to say that it's not without its faults like most places are, however, Indianapolis never did disappoint me! Subscribing to the channel to bring back memories!!

@LivingInIndianapolis4 жыл бұрын
Ha ha! I did mention in the video that it's affordable compared to the rest of the country. Home prices and taxes are certainly better. However, many think they can get a steal in Indy... not necessarily true. There are parts of Indy that are really cheap but they aren't safe and the homes are rough. The most desirable places are more expensive.
@LivingInIndianapolis4 жыл бұрын
@@colts2323 Indy doesn't have a good safety reputation but many populated cities don't. Many parts of the city are quite safe. Most know of the unsafe places and steer clear. The gloominess in Indiana in the winter isn't really unique. The entire midwest is pretty cold, wet, and gloomy during the winter. It does make us appreciate the spring, fall, and summer though. I agree about having sun all year long... or at least most of the year. I personally wouldn't like that but some would and do. Also, the other cities in Indiana could be a good fit and you do get some serious value in those places (Fort Wayne, Munice, etc). Thanks for your input!

@@colts2323 very informative. I live in Texas and I think sunshine can be overrated period. Summer should be sunny and winter should be gloomy. Cloudiness doesn’t bother me. I am moving to Indianapolis soon and have been using this channel as my virtual guide before my first visit. Definitely super insightful but the comparisons to large cities isn’t very helpful. I would not expect Indianapolis to compare to LA, NY, or Miami in any aspect. Those are massive metro areas with 5M+ people. It’d be more helpful to see comparisons to other medium sized cities like Portland, Austin or Nashville. Other than that I appreciate the insight!

In your opinion does indianapolis need a MLB team I had this conversation with my uncle he said it wasn't big enough but they can support the pacers and colts along with the indy indians baseball team
@LivingInIndianapolis4 жыл бұрын
Not sure really. It's certainly large enough to support one as there are other cities that are smaller and do so... Milwaukee as an example. And other cities with a metro area near the size of Indy's metro... Kansas City, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh... However, I'm sure the MLB does study this in depth before creating an expansion team for a city. But, the Colts and Pacers do quite well. The Indianapolis Indians do well too (AAA for the Pirates). I'd love an MLB team here but maybe some others wouldn't.

I am new to the area, kind of passing through though, and I find Indy to be not much special to be honest. People are nice, seems like a times past there but not as bad as the Alternate 1985 through most of it like Tampa does. But as far as a place to settle down, it seems like a clusterfuck. Positives: Nice people, fairly decent amount of places to eat although a lot of it is fast food, nice low end liquor stores, not everyplace is a crappy convenience store like in Florida, not everyone has found it... YET. I won't spread the word around though don't worry. Its not that special, its more a place to live with probably more nice people than not, some idiots but thats everywhere. Supposedly the area has a good LGBTQ scene but if its all downtown, I probably would never go to any of it or very rarely. That war memorial thing does sound impressive. Dating scene COULD be better than it is in Tampa by quite a bit. It might in fact be one of the few places besides Omaha area maybe where you could find a partner and it won't be so tough. The verdict is still out on that so not 100% sure. Negatives: Roads suck. Seems like I've had to get on the highway to go everywhere and it sucks. Potholes, Parks do not seem to be a good thing about this area, so I will say bad parks at least until I see more of it. NO SIDEWALKS IN A LOT OF IT. For someone who likes to walk a lot, this is not a good walking city. i can tell.
@supremeb35633 жыл бұрын
Biggest misconception in my opinion is Indianapolis is just a large city filled with just white people. There's a sizable black population (over 250,000) in the city and county limits. Every year, Indianapolis and the Indiana Black Expo hosts the Circle City Classic football game at Lucas Field between two historically black colleges. The parade before the game has around 100,000 spectators. That's a lot of people attending a parade for teams not even from the city.
@MeltinJohn2 жыл бұрын
It is kind of true though. I can feel that vibe even in the short time I been here. Its in the air. Its a mostly white state no question, with some black people sprinkled in that may have wanted to leave the ghetto and then you have the ghetto. But most of it is white, not Portland white, but close.

1:It's a good place to live...what a myth that is
@MeltinJohn2 жыл бұрын
Kind of. I see a few positives but I see most of it as a place to just pass through, check out and then be on your way. Try a few signature restaurants maybe , go to a white castle or have a cracker style pizza someplace. The pizza is not bad in Indy I don't find. People are nice but besides that, some other nuissances, maybe enough to make me consider making it home. I might check out Bloomington though but if I can't get much there, I might just head to Omaha area.

@MeltinJohn2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I been here quite a short time and been feeling that vibe. The nice people would keep me here longer, but as far as the rest of it, its not too impressive. The liquor stores look good but its a horrible city for potholes and for walking. This city has the least amount of sidewalks I have EVER seen anywhere! This city has 880 k right, but it feels a lot smaller. I think its because people section themselves off to their small town portions of the city and all of those seem small town ish as well. I have a feeling I am just passing through unless something big happens within 10 days like I get a housing agreement or I meet someone. I see a few possibilities but other forces are also telling me to keep driving to Omaha/Lincoln area at the same time. Its close though. I thought if I wasn't going to end up in Omaha area that Indy or some part of Indiana would be the runner up. Omaha just seems to be appealing to me more.
