@Enigma McC Enmgima is correct, any pants with a belt loop should have a belt. if you don't' want to wear a belt for whatever reason invest in suspenders.

I would prefer a side adjusters and suspenders suit to a belt loop suit anyday of the week, but he forgot to say you buy a suit with side adjusters, if you bought a suit with belt loops, it's already too late.

You should ALWAYS wear a belt if there are belt loops on your pants. If you have a suit that doesn't have belt loops, then don't wear a belt. There are no "rules", only guidelines, really.

mazen ezou I disagree with it. a) he has belt loops and clasps - should really be one or the other. b) I think a belt adds a nice detail to a suit. Instead of a beltless suit giving you a "clean silhouette", it more makes you look like you're wearing a woman's pant-suit. A belt breaks up the upper and the lower, thereby defining the pants and the jacket. I feel this is much cleaner.

If your suit pants have belt loops, wear a belt, not a super thick one, just a thin dress belt. The no belt look only works with pants that fit perfectly.

I prefer to have a little extra room around the waist and use a belt. Especially for when I sit down and eat lol which makes my belly come out. (I'm a 30 in waist but get 31) just for comfort really.

Those "too many" accessories are the little details that can help make your outfit stand out just a little more. I think a tie and pocket square is good but adding a tie bar and some cuff links aren't necessarily over doing it.

I agree with most of the video, except for the belt part! I mean obviously suits used to be worn without belts, but the trousers ended at the natural waist, so a belt wasn't necessary. But nowadays things have changed a little and now it's super stylish to wear kickass belt. I personally actually think you can't wear modern trousers without a belt, because they come with belt loops and are clearly meant to be worn with a belt. Wearing trousers with belt loops, without a belt, looks just awful in my opinion!

HerrMeier007 I might need to disagree with it's super stylish to wear belt nowadays. wearing belt is actually the norms, not wearing a belt makes you stylish. Also if you get a bespoke suit, you won't get belt loops on your trousers unless you ask for it. and finally if you're wearing a 3 piece suit, you should never wear a belt. The British term of vest, "waistcoat", is called that way for a reason.

I did not like this video. Who would wear a loud tie like that with such an elegant suit? Match your tie properly with your suit. Unless your suit pants come with side adjusters, you should always wear a tie. Another mistake that is done a lot is buttoning. You should only button the top button when standing. When you sit unbutton your suit; when you stand up button it back up.

Teachingmensfashion your primary reason for not wearing a belt is that it cuts the body in half. That can be remedied by choosing a different color belt. belt loos witha belt on a suit is like dress shoes without shoelaces. If you don't wish to wear it, that's your personal preference but thats all it is. FYI, i enjoy your channel alot even though I disagree with you on this one point.

I have to agree as there are a lot of historical changes that have happened and still remain in men's style (change from suspenders to belts, use of tee shirts in the mass market, decline in the wearing of vests and three piece suits, etc). Belts are fine and most suits that people get have belt loops so they should wear a belt as a matter of both practicality, and societal expectations (you wear a belt when your trousers have belt loops). Going beltless puts you in the minority of men and is mostly relegated to made to measure and bespoke options, If you're going old school, your jacket will be buttoned when you're standing anywhere and when you're sitting it's not too likely that people will see or notice your belt so there's an easy, practical way to deal with the belt issue if you care for such things.

I do not believe he is wrong. to wear a belt with a suit is the ultimate faux pas as it goes contrary to raison d'être of a suit. sure you can wear a belt if you are part of a new romantic pop group or as 'punk' statement but essentially the video is correct. greetings from the U.K., home of the lounge suit.

Actually have a problem these days I see is people having their pants tailored too short. I don’t know where the style of I’m going to tailor my pants above the ankle so that my socks show came from. It is honestly the ugliest look I’ve ever seen in my life. Suits have pretty much been the same style since the 1920s. To be honest I don’t like the whole skinny tie, skinny pants, large Jacket opening came from it’s horrible. I can kind a deal with the jacket, skinny tie doesn’t look right but whatever… The whole making the pants up past your ankle bone thing is just ridiculous. It makes them look like they have clown feet, and half of them wear white socks with their suit which makes it look more stupid. Pants should have a half break, or a full break. In my opinion straight, no break can be dealt with but it looks really bad if you’re sitting down.

its essentially undefinable, because it varies by region, culture, period, sex, occasion, time of day, setting, etc.. but, theres a few different ways to think about it that are universal, heres a few analogies to help understand the difference : fashion changes from season to season and year to year, style is eternal. mac'n'cheese is fashion, pasta is style. oversized pants around yr ankles is fashion in america, a well fitting pair of pants is style in just about every country. a pierre cardin suit is fashion, a dinner suit is style. the width of a tie is dictated by fashion, wearing a tie is dictated by style. wearing a pocket square is style, the pattern on it, or the fold used, is fashion. if i was forced into some kind of strict definition, i would complain bitterly, then when a gun was put to my head, id say fashion is conforming to a fickle current trend, style is conforming to a long-lasting cultural ideal

Where did you learn this nonsense? The only thing that made sense was removing the tag. Calling a tie an accessory to a suit when going to a formal event can be a sin, and your completely discouraging people to experiment with a loud tie and pocket square. Obviously a suit was made to have a belt worn on or it would not have belt loops. Not all suits need to be fitted, if you move around and have a lot of activity a normal sack is just fine.

There is no end for these kind of stuff and there are just a few must dos and don'ts with your suit. I'm sorry but who are you to tell us all of these? Fashion and clothing changes very quickly, they didn't use belts with suits before but we are wearing now. It's probably about mass production of clothing and suits became cheaper. Ordering a custom suit for you is still not for everybody today. Btw you have belt loops so it looks weird when you don't wear a belt. Your suit collars are too big and out of fashion, those pockets on your jacket looks bad. It just looks like a cheap blazer jacket. You might think its a great suit, I might think its shit and its all ok. So what I'm saying is don't waste too much time with these channels with dudes pretends like specialists, use your common sense. Go to a store and buy your suit with the retailer and ask questions and so on.

The video was pretty good for the most part. It was educational, speaking to the belt loops and adjusters. Helpful in reminding listeners, to remove the stitching and tags on newly purchased suits and getting it tailored. Having said all that, I must mention. If any of you are detailed oriented like me, you caught that his pants had belt loops. I'm not going to slag the guy but he probably shouldn't tell others how to do something, if he can't do it right himself. This is just my opinion.

Nice tips and I have to agree with most but would like to debate a few. :) 1. As far as belt loops go, most suits men can get without going made to measure or bespoke are going to have belt loops. Taking the historical view about their addition as a result of mass production is fair but then you'd have to say that tee shirts shouldn't be worn as they were originally made for Navy men before being mass produced. Plus, if you're worried about getting cut in half just button your jacket when you stand and it'll be hidden and you'll look more put together overall. When you sit, who cares or is really going to notice your belt? Personally, I love side tabs on suits and the lack of loops saves you from having to coordinate one with your shoes but for the majority of men, it's something they'll have to deal with, plus most people expect you to wear a belt with trousers. 2. As far as sleeve length goes, I'm glad you addressed it but the "appropriate" amount of cuff to show has varied historically from none to as much as an inch so a consensus isn't easily reached. That being said, I agree that about 3/4" should be about as much as you go; however, preserving the proportions between how much collar is showing and how much cuff you show is a bit more aesthetically pleasing and accommodates each shirt's fabric weight, drape, etc. 3. Completely agree. 4. Removal of tags and tack stitching is a must and hilarious if not done. 5. Trouser tailoring is spot on. I argue that a half-break as it's the most versatile, as you don't have to worry as much about it being too short for most of your shoes or too long either.

I COMPLETELY agree with the no break look with trousers, its a classier, cleaner and more sleek look. To many men are wearing their dress pants with multiple breaks, looks very sloppy.

One thing not mentioned which I find to be very important when I have my suits fitted, is the roll just under the back of the collar across the back. Check and make sure it's as flat as possible. Any good Taylor or seamstress can either eliminate or minimize this roll to give you a more tailored look.

Good clip. Ref the trouser tabs look versus the belt look, it's really up to the wearer, and of course you may only have belt loop trousers to choose from either in stock or for what you can afford, nonetheless it's a style that until recently didn't seem to be known that well/only known to those buying really expensive or bespoke suits (braces used to be like this too). To me the trouser tabs look is similar to wearing braces in lieu of a belt, it's an optional look, etc. I still think though that if it's comfortable enough (like in Winter, etc) that wearing a tie still helps to define the look and it makes you feel special. Of course if it's too hot (like in Summer) by all means remove it.

Thus far I've had no luck finding any suits off-the-rack that come with the adjusters. Is it something that a tailor can add to your suit pants afterwards and remove the belt loops in the process?
