I'll tell you. My biggest issue is reading. I am a bass player and learned to sight read, not tabs. I have the biggest issue moving to the treble staff notes. I am learning guitar, doing ok, but i am trying to sight read and still A and C, B/G, E/G, etc confused. I have to think about it on guitar. It's more than frustrating. I have taken a new approach using tone centers and scales, pentatonic major and minor up and down the neck. This is helping on multiple levels.

Real good information, 1 thing that I’ve learned from what you said is to learn to play by ear, I’ve done it somewhat but NOT NEARLY ENOUGH to where I’m just minutes l can play what I’m hearing, I’ve relied on tabs way to much, and also l need to start being able to read music. You’re a great teacher, l always enjoy your guitar instruction and advice. Thanks Much, Steve

Thanks Steve . I thought maybe you would talk about how not to form cords . There are two ways to form a E major or a Am know what I mean ? A teacher asked Me why I was doing it that way but He also said if your comfortable with it do it.

Great advise! There are self-taught professional guitar players who can't or couldn't read music. Pat Metheny, the late Ed VanHalen and Glen Campbell to name a few.
