Thanks for talking about the importance of actually teaching, explicitly, those mini lessons that are vital so that students actually learn HOW to write. I am a retired educator who spent 16 years in the elementary classroom before becoming a principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. I now work as a consultant to districts that are in school improvement (state accountability). As I observe writing teachers, I see so many just assigning writing but never really teaching students how to write! Your video was very informative and I will share with the those I mentor. Thanks!

Yes! I've been in education since 1999 and have recently become a mentor teacher at local university as part of a new teacher program they have. I see a lot of assigning and not a lot of teaching, and they're getting that from their not-as-new colleagues.

Hello teacher Susan, good morning 🌅! Great video, I liked it, very interesting! Congratulations for your work done on KZbin. Your videos are useful for me to practice and improve my listening skill in English. Sometimes, I active the option of subtitles in this language to understand them better. Have a great Monday and start of the week, wherever you are. I send you a hug 🤗 💐 🙏. Greetings from Sonora, México 🇲🇽.

Love your vids. I wish I had more time to binge watch your videos. Any suggestions on classroom management. I struggle with sharp/ broken pencils. I currently have a share/exchange process where there are sharp pencils in the front the front of the room where my first graders can exchange a pencil without bothering me while providing instruction. But my first graders go through SO MANY pencils. Any ideas in your past videos?

I have the same problem and usually sharpen them at the end of the day with my electric sharpener or I have a student do it as a monitor job. They have t use their hand sharpener though, not the electric one. This year, I’m going to have it as a parent job and send home mass amount of pencils and the electric sharpener to parent volunteers so I always have a box full of sharp ones.

Susan, thank you for sharing all your knowledge! I am a first bilingual teacher and have a hard time finding writing resources for writing. Would your SJT writing club be something I look into? Thank you!

Hello, I'm a mom to a 7yo(2nd grade) she is struggling writing certain letters. Like her 'a' looks like a small upper case 'q'. I'm trying to teach her but I'm not good at teaching how to write. She seems to be having fun and I'm having her take breaks when she gets frustrated, cause I realize she's likely to not want to work on her writing...how do I help her learn how to write the letters legibly?
@anne1844 ай бұрын
Her teachers are saying the her writing needs work, and they're sending worksheets home for us to work on I'm currently having mixed emotions about it. My brother does the same thing and he's 30yo. If it legible does it really have to be perfect like the work sheets? Or is it okay for her to keep writing how she is because it's part of her handwriting?
