Love Colleen Patrick-Goudreau! I’ve been slowly working my way through , and it has changed the way I exist in the world as a vegan. I don’t have any vegan friends. I have a few plant based (but not vegan) family members. When I first became vegan, it was so hard to be around people who were constantly supporting animal cruelty and seemingly throwing it in my face. My brother would cook bacon. My aunt would flaunt leather. My friend would order chicken flesh at a restaurant. The look - the smell! I just wanted to cry and shake them, like “Do you have any idea what you’re supporting?! Do you realise that that was a someone - not a something - who wanted to live, and yet lived a life of torture from birth until death?! Have you no compassion? How can you love this dog over here, and yet not care for the life of the pig, whose body parts are now on your plate?” Of course, I didn’t say these things, I just cried, or usually excused myself and cried, or tried to pretend I didn’t know that person was consuming a dead animal (but that’s not easy, because…the smell). has taught me to have compassion for those who don’t have compassion for the animals whose abuse they support. It’s taught me to remember that veganism is my choice for me, and it has to be someone else’s own choice, too. It’s taught me to plant seeds, but to play the long game - to not become invested in every seed I plant. It’s taught me to have boundaries. I may be able to choose how I spend my own money, what I wear, what I put in my mouth and on my body, what I keep and allow in my house; but it is not up to me what anyone else puts in her mouth or on her body, wears, keeps in her house, or how anyone spends her own money. It’s taught me that I can love a person and share many values with him, and still disagree with that person on vegan values.

You're so far removed from nature. I wonder what you'd do without access to a grocery store and industrial farming. You do realize animals eat animals. You're food to a cougar and the majority of predatory animals. It's the circle of life. Animals are food to us and we're food to other animals. It's just life. Plus there's essential amino acids and bio available iron, calcium and protein that you cannot obtain from plants. That's why long term vegans like Dr.McDougall deteriorated prematurely vs. paleo nutritionist Mark Scisson which are around the same age. Want to know what your future looks like as a vegan, find the 30 year plus vegans and take a look. It's not good.

You made some very valid and user friendly points! I made many of those errors myself. I now know what does and doesn't work for me with my body (I have an elongated, twisted colon). certain foods do not work well for me, wish they did, but I just do the best I can. I used to not want to eat around the meat eaters, but it doesnt bother me as much now. Hunting is necessary, animals can become invasive. U realize animals are killed for crops right? Animals are killed so massive ticky tacky neighborhoods can be made. I’m an organic farmer, if we get an aphid problem, we buy a bug to eat the pesky bug...the mantis and ladybug is my fav bug as they eat pesky aphids. Our organic farm is successful because we have natural predators in the area, wild fox, 100 bald eagles, snakes , farm cats/dogs that keep pesky rodents at bay. Small farm. Now if u look at massive monocrops , u will see no wildlife, u will see no trees, no predators, not even rodents that eat pesky bugs...u will only see as far as the eye can see crops that are NOT organic, they’re sprayed with synthetic fertilizers and toxic pesticides that’s bad for us and the earth. Hunting is vital in a thriving enviorment. Without predators, herbivores and bugs will destroy all plants.

Indeed. How do u feel about ex vegans? I became anemic and lost my period after my first year of veganism. Tons of organic produce, quality ingredients, cooked and raw, expensive supplements, powders, I ate high “fats” , I did stay away from mock meats cuz they gave me diharreah and were a bunch of nasty ingredients. Anyways. I spent half a year trying to get my period back. Turns out plant nutrients are not as bioavailable as nutrients from meats/bone/eggs/organs etc. I was only 23ish and was losing so much hair, I was eating 3000-5000 calories a day which is very hard and painful to do on vegan diet as plants are low in calorie..gotta eat large portions. I felt weak, I lost a lot of endurance, I had painful IBS, melon belly from mono meals is painful. My mom convinced me to go vegetarian and my period came back within 2 months. Took me a few years to reverse my anemia. It’s been about 7 years since I left veganism and I introduced red meat/organs to my diet about 2 years ago. Wow can I feel and see the difference. My hair is thicker, the skin on my face has that collagen richness to it...my fertility is great. Still vegans tell me I’m an idiot cuz I didn’t do veganism right and that I don’t deserve to live. Some people have a hard time with tons of fiber, I had painful IBS, all I ate was organic quality ingredients. The vegan community can be toxic to eachother, there’s vegans who think we should kill every animal that eats animals. I’m an organic farmer, our farm is successful because of natural predators in our are. If we get an aphid problem, we buy millions of ladybugs and praying mantis to eat the bad bug. The best fertilizer is made with poo, blood, bones.

@@QueenLaQueefa I'm not actually a vegan or trying to be one, I just love Hannah's channel because she has great recipes and I really enjoy her sense of humor, her passion and her lifestyle. I eat a lot of plant based food but I still eat ethically raised meat occasionally when it feels right for me. I too would become anemic on a vegan diet if I did it longer than 8 months. I've tried several times and for me, having some meat in my diet works better. I don't think there is one right diet for everyone and you have to do what is best for you. I stay gluten free, dairy free and egg free and that has helped immensely. I admire you for doing what you need to do to stay healthy for you and don't necessarily believe you did veganism "wrong". It's wrong of others to judge you so harshly and it says more about them than it does about you. As a practitioner in the alternative health care field, many of my patients can't handle an all plant based diet and don't digest raw fruits and veggies well. I work with people on all kinds of diets. It's definitely not a one size fits all:)

Thank you Hannah. You have definately been such an inspiration and part of my journey going plant based just 6 months ago. Im not fully vegan as I eat a friends honey and occasional friends local eggs. I plan on cutting out the eggs. Quitting meat was so terrifying because the stigma around veganism. I even had my doc tell me I should eat meat due to having Hashimotos. Don’t eat soy she said. Well I do! And all these small moments of panic with people trying to convince me I needed meat I stood strong and didn’t give in. Being vegan you are a minority and its scary at times. I live in alaska where it is rare to have many vegans around. Lots of hunting and meat eating here. I know I will never go back to eating meat. And I actually gained a few pound despite the stigma around getting skinny and sickly. I just appreciate all your info you share! Thank you

I have been vegan/vegetarian for 12 years, and it is not as easy as you and Ellen make it look. The things you and Ellen eat are not appealing to me, especially the salads you eat, and when you have a lot of food intolerances to gluten and avocado, it makes your menu quite limited. The truth is, since I became plant based, I have gained 50lbs lost 30lbs regained 40lbs and my weight has been a constant battle. It is very hard being plant based in this processed food, animal eating world, and I am guessing that is why many people give up after awhile.

The Bible is very clear that God permits eating animals. Here are just a few verses: ““Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.)” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭7:18-19‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “And Abel also brought an offering-fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬ “Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. "Causes of Yellow Palms One of the reasons why palms develop a yellowish pigment is a condition called carotenemia. Carotenemia is a condition distinguished by the discoloration of the skin into a yellowish-orange pigment. It can be caused by the prolonged intake of foods rich in carotene. Carotene is a lipochrome that adds a yellow color to the skin. It is found in pigmented fruits and vegetables like orange, squash, papaya, mango, carrots, and cabbage. It is synthesized in fruits as they ripen. In vegetables, it is hidden by the green color of chlorophyll. Often, the more yellow or green a vegetable is, the more carotene it contains." My family really took umbrage with me when I became vegan. Their idea of veganism back then was built on common public opinion- apparently, vegans are disliked in society almost as much as drug addicts! My family thought I was judging them, even though I wasn’t. I quietly got on with it and three years later, most of them are vegan now too.

I'm happy for you that veganism seems to be right for you. At least at this stage. The truth is that apart from refined sugar and processed foods that should be avoided anywhere possible we don't know that much about nutrition. Still, from my personal experience and that of so many others I don't believe anymore that a strict plant-based diet is perfectly suitable for humans. I mean it's suitable for very few ones whose bodies are particularly capable of absorbing all the crucial and hard-to-get minerals like iron and zinc and highly able of converting certain precursors like betacarotine into vitamin A and so on. But that's not the norm. And that's the problem. Look at your little niece Scout: She has access to the very best plant-based foods, she's growing up in a loving family and yet she's so weak and underdeveloped that your sister doesn't show her in her videos anymore. How sad is that?
