No takebacks makes sense in general in a competitive environment. If I'm focusing and trying to play at 100% capacity, I expect my opponent to do the same. Coming from playing magic i cant believe that you cant double sleeve cards. Ive never been to a mtg tournament without my deck doublesleeved. People are going to be handling 100's of dollars of cards when they cut my deck or when they look at a card to read it, and you have no idea where their hands have been. Not to mention the benefit of having a seal inside of your outer layer of sleeve in the rare chance that something spills. Perfect fit sleeves + an outer sleeve is essential for keeping cards clean. It also makes 60 card decks a ton easier the shuffle because the cards become wider.

Also, just wanted to drop a tip for local tournaments, where you aren't required to provide a deck list: don't make changes to your deck mid-tournament at locals. I've seen a lot of kids get in trouble for doing that. It is usually younger kids, like 12 or 13 year olds, but some people just don't go to locals until later and do it because they assume it's not a very formal tournament and it doesn't matter. But, I have seen store owners get on people's case about it. I've seen people get disqualified, I've seen people get off with a warning, and I've even seen someone get banned from competing at that store because they did this multiple times. So, if this is you and you haven't gotten caught doing it yet, you should probably stop doing that before you do.

For the "tap" thing, it probably refers to how a lot of players, who choose not to cut when offered a cut, will tap the top of the offered deck with one or two fingers to indicate they won't cut. Any motion involving touching the deck in some way without actually cutting any cards seems to come across just fine, just most people choose to "tap." There's also the actual in-game Magic the Gathering term "tap," which, to simplify somewhat heavily, refers to turning cards that remain on the field sideways when they've been used since your last turn. You forgot the rule that if a player skips over a non-optional effect and it isn’t corrected before the gamestate becomes irreversible, they get a game loss. If the player, however, *intentionally* doesn’t remind his or her opponent of a mandatory effect that could drastically change the gamestate, that can be considered cheating via rule sharking and can get you Match losses. If both players fail to catch the error, then the turn player can recieve a game loss. However, if the player in question catches the effect and his opponent refuses to let him or her resolve it provided the gamestate is reversible, that can result in said opponent recieving a game loss. In short, always remember your mandatory effects and be courteous and do the right thing by reminding your opponent of mandatory effects.
@TheL0rd0fSpace5 жыл бұрын

As per the Konami official tournament policy v 2.1, you CAN double sleeve your cards with some stipulations such as the 2nd sleeve being clear on both sides, being placed in the opposite direction than the 1st sleeve, and, of course, only 1 card can be in the 2 sleeves. This has been the case since November 2020.

About taking back plays, I go with one mindset: If I mess up a play it's my fault, I won't expect my oponent to let me take it back, I won't even ask to do it. So, if they ask do to it I will always say no. Learn from the mistake and next time do it the right way.
@noahtackett62646 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, I let my opponents take back plays. Mostly because I don't want to win because of a misplay my opponent did. I want to win because my deck overpowered theirs and my skills surpassed theirs. I want to win because I outplay them. Not because they messed up.
@vparsa876 жыл бұрын
Thing with taking plays back is it’s not always trying to shark your opponent. This isn’t normal summon a vanilla monster anymore. Now we have so many quick effects or on summon effects. Sometimes those on summon effects are not optional, so there might come a situation where your opponent knows too much and use that information to their advantage.

Bushiroad allows double sleeving at all of their card game tournaments, with some even getting allowed triple sleeves, so I feel like Konami is needlessly overcautious here.
@ShuraEssays6 жыл бұрын
About not being able to take back plays, in Konami's tournament policy it says that actions cannot be taken back once a player has committed to them, so the way interpret that isn't always if it's the last move, but generally if you do something and then haven't done much else but within a few seconds you realize another option, I let my opponent take it back. I'm extremely lenient on that kind of thing even when it's like, for example, my opponent forgets to search off of one of their gouki. Granted, that's locals. You're supposed to be getting better with your deck in order to be a better duelist. At a tournament if that happened I would probably let somebody take back a summon like if they normal Candina and then realize they had hornet drones in hand or something and want to take it back, I would let them redo that, if they summoned Unicorn but decided they shouldn't, I would let them redo that, but if they summoned timegazer off of chronograph and forgot to use Darkwurm, I wouldn't let that happen because that's a lot more of an obvious thing that they need to remember on their own to activate. Just my two cents. Also just as a question, in Battle Step all cards are activated both in response to the attack and in response to the previous effect, so if I attack with, say, DDD Cursed King Seigfried, and my opponent activates storming, I negate it, can they now activate another storming? It would be chain link 3 in response to the attack and Seigfried's effect, so I'm not sure. I would ask the more experienced judges at my locals but I don't go until this weekend.

@StarTard86 жыл бұрын
You can’t for the reason stated above. Anything that can be mistaken for a game piece that isn’t listed on your Deck List but is in your Deck Box not marked explicity as a Token *on the card itself*, is fair game, even if it explicitly says it can’t be used. And to list something like that on your Deck List would likely raise some serious eyebrows at the Judges’ Table. TL;DR, if it’s a YGO card (even one that says it can’t be used in a duel) that is in your Deck Box but not on your Deck List, it can get you game losses. And if you put a card with the “cannot be used in a duel” text on your Deck List, that too is not allowed, as you are technically using that card to play in your deck regardless of whether or not it shows on the field or in your hand. So no, you cannot, under any circumstances, have a card with the “cannot be used in a duel” text on it in your Deck Box during an official event unless the card itself is explicitly marked as a Token.

Question tangential to the OCG TCG thing (non yugioh player here, MTG player who played yugioh as a kid). Why are clear sleeves and white sleeves allowed? In magic, even with the backs of all cards identical, you have to use sleeves, and opaque ones at that, because you can still mark the backs of your cards or see signs of wear to tip you off to the top of your deck. Wouldn't it make more sense following the line of logic for banning OCG cards to instead ban clear sleeves instead?
@lewispalmer14696 жыл бұрын
Dzeeff, Your analysis on TCG / OCG cards is giving Konami way too much credit. The ONLY reason is to profit maximise from the western market. They tried the 'you can't use US cards' in Europe when they released European print cards (to try to force people to re-buy cards they already owned) and players soundly rejected the practise so Konami/UDE backed down. You are not wrong in saying there could be confusion/cheating but that's not the reason they don't allow foreign cards.
@CoordinatorKYamato6 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but do you work for Konami? No? Then you have literally no idea why they don't. We also have no idea why Konami might have insisted that players couldn't use US cards in Europe at first, but the fact that they backed down on that issue but have not backed down re: OCG cards is evidence that there might be more to it than just "lol Konami wants us to spend money." You don't have any definitive evidence and therefore you cannot say what is right or wrong.
@lewispalmer14696 жыл бұрын
@@CoordinatorKYamato The reason they backed down is because every event that tried to enforce the greed fuelled rules were seeing less turn out that events that ignored the rules and with no community or player support Konami's hand was forced. Second of all, I know you're full of shit now because are you suggesting that Konami ran certain official events that enforced the rule and certain official events that didn't? Because that's what it sounds like, and that is absurd. Finally, I'm not being an apologist, I'm fully willing to accuse Konami of greedy tactics when it's appropriate, but this time it sounds a lot like whiny players crying and being resentful about having to buy cards like the rest of the player base and using "Konami's greed" as a lazy excuse to justify themselves. The reason that dzeeff gave for the OCG card ban is much more believable than the baseless garbage you're spewing.

@@CoordinatorKYamato They did, the first wave of national qualifiers that year were to be contested under -EN only sets and had poor turnout across Europe. Immediate and 100% negative feedback saw them overturn the 'ruling' within a matter of months in time for nationals finals which were contested under non -EN sets. Also if it was just the player base being whiny as you suggest then why were TCG cards 100% legal in the OCG until 2014? Surly all the issues of cheating and stacking etc given work both ways?
