Hey man Army vet here. but I actually got into wood work after getting a peloton and wanting to find a cycling shoes hanger. They are very expensive, I saw it and said "I can make that". At this time I didnt have any tools for cutting wood, my wife and I put some money and got the basics. I made mine and my wife put it up on Etsy and up to now we've sold 4. Good side project to make some side money. Also made my own floating shelves a few weeks back. Great channel man. Love the ideas and the energy!!!

Tip: the RV industry re: those stove tops. The industry doesn't have the edges on the plastic or plastic countertop material that keep stuff from sliding around. Also, any small portable shelf or well made step stool comes in handy to, everyone uses something that isn't near as nice as good woodworking unless they make it themselves. I'm camping out in my truck camper for a few months at a job, and I'm discovering new needs for coat hanging pegs on backing boards, shelves, boot dryer on some swing out hinges across from a heater vent, etc. Those blanket and quilt ladders sized for RV's would probably also be popular. The rv industry supply chain is toast, and their consumer accessories are / were mostly plastic junk anyway. Also, thank you for your flags and promotion of the military and law enforcement, sometimes they need to hear the positive instead of the unfairly negative too. Keep up the good work and thanks again for the videos and information!

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for wood working projects. Especially if you have the skill or tools to put out a good quality product. But the cost of wood right now? How can you even do these projects at a price range that would make them affordable? Take the little shoe bench for example. A 2X6 is over $15 and in some cases over $20 (and you would need two). A 1x4 is over $6. And these are unfinished. The supports will need to be 2X4 so that's another $9. So you already have at least $45 in lumber. And that is not even taking into account, sandpaper, wood screws, stain, or paint. This is easily a $60 project and that is without labor considerations. Assuming an hour construction and sanding. Plus and hour for painting or staining and anything other than selling it for $90 means you are under selling your labor and still not able to match a price on Amazon for similar products. On a side note, if your client has large feet, over 12 inches, you are going to have to create a bench wide enough to compensate for the extra long shoes. So that is another 2X6 and another 1X4 which puts your materials in the $75 range. Now mind you, your client probably isn't going to find a similarly long product on Amazon, so you can make a profit on this niche market. You could probably sale a finished product for $150 and clear quite a bit. But I should point out this bench is going to be heavy and how many people would you know that are such large footed and want want of these benches? If wood prices would drop down to what they were 2 years ago. I'd say go for it. You could sale them for $90 each and have still made a reasonable profit. But right now. I just don't see it. Not with wood prices where they are at.

I started woodworking when I retired two years ago making Adirondack chairs, benches, birdhouses etc. just like you do. the only difference is I make everything out of salvaged wood i find, (side of the road, dumps etc.) It makes it so much more of a challenge working around the imperfections and flaws of the wood and is very rewarding and when I tack the word "rustic" onto the ad people grab them right up! I'm looking forward to getting some of the plans. thank you for your videos.

Fyi: you can find the led strips with remotes at Walmart (in the electronics section) for $8. I've used a dozen in various projects.

Do the led strips hold up pretty well? Also you mentioned a remote. I assume this isn’t the strips that you can cut and use for several different projects, correct? Thank you friend!!.... :))
@steelsunpi3 жыл бұрын
They've held up great. I haven't had one fail yet. You can cut them shorter, but to use in many projects would require additional power connectors and adapters, which would cost about the same as a new strip.

Ive followed you for several years and bought your flag and stars templates and directions. I sold quite a few of them. Gotta say the quality of your videos has really improved. Ive sold projects I made with wood for several decades so I cant give you all the credit, but your Ideas have given me lots more ideas. I used to make bunkbeds. Profitable but very heavy and take up lots of room in my little shop. I love smaller items that are easy to build and easy to display. Stay safe, (retired LEO)

I enjoyed that part of the video too. I can already see Tuba Four 731 hoodies and vinyl window stickers for rear window minivan . . .I called my minivan a mom truck and a butt wagon. I haven't had a minivan for a long, long time. I'll have to get another mom truck if I learn how to make all of these woodshop projects. Buying a bench from his store might be a little more affordable though.

when making table tops out of 1x6, im having an issue keeping the top surface flush. it seems like the pocket joints like to pull it up a bit leaving a seam. how do you keep that from happening?

Face clamp helps some. Making sure the edges of each board is square is key

I’m so glad I found your channel! My wife and I are planning to start woodworking to help pay down debt and Lord willing, someday no longer rely on an employer. I appreciate all your insight, advice, and your willingness to share your faith. Keep up the good work! You’re an encouragement 👍🏻

When you say that you sell your stuff locally, could you give some examples of where you're selling? Facebook Marketplace, etc. Thanks!

I made 2 of your small benches this week and put them on my pick up truck to take them to my house to make excellent photos to enable me to sell them here in Thailand. By the time i walked back to my truck after locking my workshop up a lady said you make lovely things ,my friend told me. Can i buy these 2 benches please. sold. I opened my workshop up again and made a pot of tea. Us British must stop for tea. It was 4 pm. Thank you. I sold them 2000 baht each. YOU are a great help to me. r.h.

Keep up the positive channel! You are doing a great job with your woodworking business but also having a big platform to share hope (Hebrews 6:19). You need to be proud of yourself, your work, and your example.

With your accent, you could read the Yellow Pages and I'd still enjoy listening to you! Great ideas and some impressive-looking projects. Over here in the UK we tend to think of a flag as just a piece of cloth. But respect to you for dealing with the potential nay-sayers with your final comments. Thank you for sharing some of the ideas that have worked for you. Really appreciated.

I’ve only recently gotten into woodworking (quarantine “free” time in the backyard while the kids play). I’ve made some shelving and a cabinet for our bathroom, along with some coffee bar decor. Thanks for the videos! And especially thanks for using your woodworking designs and KZbin presence for your faith! As a Christian myself, it’s nice to see someone who uses anchors, crosses, and verse numbers in your work! Kudos and keep strong brother!

You sir are awesome thank you very very much, I was sitting here thinking what I could do to make money with all these freaking tools I have and t this video came at the right time!! Lost my job a few month back and I want to get started in woodworking and this video came at the right time.. So thank you and God bless!! I have been doubtful if I can make a go at this but might as well try nothing to lose! Served in the military (Marines) so might as well jump in head first!
