Hi, as a pianist I’d like to share my theory of four difficulties in music. In my opinion there are four main ways for a piece to be difficult. One: physically difficult. It will make your hands hurt, or your hands will be to small, or certain passages are too fast/awkward to play naturally. The first piece I think of for this is Chopin prelude 1, because I have small hands and I can’t practice it more than twice before my arms hurt. Two: technically difficult. Polyrhythms, strange chords, weird counting, or other things that make your brain hurt. I don’t know if a specific piece I’ve had this with, but different measures of different pieces contain this. Three: artistically difficult. This is the most elusive, because there aren’t as many things you can do to fix this. If something is beyond your level of musical maturity, often you’re just screwed. For me, this was Mozart Adagio k540. The interpretation for that piece took me over a year after I learned to “play” it. Finally, the fourth only comes into play on certain occasions. Difficult to memorize. Whether it’s length, repetition, or stress, often some pieces feel impossible to memorize. When I first began to learn it, I constantly felt like I was getting “lost” in the pages of moonlight sonata.

Ok, so I can see why bar 244 (3:16) in Chaconne is difficult. So for non violinists, the placement of the fingerings is a huge thing when doing different chords, especially for a fretless fingerboard. But before I get into the fingerings, the angle of the left wrist slants from left to right starting at the beginning of the fingerboard like: fingerboard> |\

Don't think I'll be taking up the violin anytime soon... or ever!
@Tyler_Kwak3 жыл бұрын
@@wakingtheworld Oh? Why not? Never ever think about not trying because others are already good. That's not a good mindset to have. You may never know where you can go with playing the violin after many years. I've been playing for 15 years, 8 years at my public school from 4th to 12th grade, but had no private lessons because my parents couldn't afford them, but i just practiced a lot at home, and i'm now making a living by street performing mostly lindsey stirling songs with my electric violin. Unless hopefully your comment was just a joke for the fun of it lol.
@wakingtheworld3 жыл бұрын
@@Tyler_Kwak Thanks for responding...Yes, a pathetic joke! I haven't got that mindset and can imagine the satisfaction one derives from improving one's playing. So hmmm... Tbh, I'm slightly toying with the idea (thanks to TwoSet) but many factors come into play here: I'm fully employed for the next few months (a physical job that warrants sleep and get f**k all of that, watching TwoSet's old vids in the wee hours). Lol. I'm also a full on activist, an aspiring Voice Over Actress - have some sort of sound system set up now but the 'jobs' that come in usually warrant a quick turnaround. Have sent off quite a few recordings with no joy as yet, but the struggling out-of-work actors/actresses are also applying for same. I'm also a poet and love spending time working on stuff. Additionally I have quite a few half started books/short stories desperately waiting to be written. I'd love to get flamenco dancing underway as well... a passion that's been waiting patiently in the wings for years. Money could be an issue but that sort of an excuse! A MAJOR concern would be where to practice - I live in a small block of flats and the neighbours would NOT be happy... I do have an 'ear' when it comes to writing poetry. A poem has to 'sing' using internal rhyme, half-rhyme, assonance, etc and a sense of rhythm is needed too but I am as far removed from perfect pitch as you can get! So that's my short answer.... Now for the full version..... Only kidding! (My younger sister is a pianist btw and my Dad was too...) But I am slightly warming to the idea...
@Tyler_Kwak3 жыл бұрын
@@wakingtheworld reaf through all of it and it seems you have a very very full life. But your main concern is "where" to practice. I discovered in my sophomore year the concert master has this metal mute that he placed on his bridge for his violin and it just COMPLETELY deadened the violin sound!!! It sounds like an electric violin not plugged in / turned on. You can juat hear the strings vibrate.
@Ohhelmno4 жыл бұрын
It just sounds like a different instrument when Hilary plays it. There are notes where she’s so gentle and soft that it sounds like flute. You never hear her bow “crunch” or any discordance. It’s unbelievable how beautiful she makes this instrument sound when other great violinists sometimes have issues with grating notes or hearing the bow too much.
