Haya did not have 505 confirmed kills. Many of his kills were not confirmed. He claimed 500 but historians think this exaggerated. His targets did not have white Winter uniforms and he was never trained to use a scope.

While Simo Häyhä's skills are undeniable, the achievements of Soviet snipers are more worthy. During Winter War, the Red Army was still inexperienced and poorly organized force as a result of the *Great Purges in 1937-1938.* With winter temperatures reaching as low as *−40 °C* in a densely forested and snowy area of Karelia, where there are only few good roads, the Finns had a good tactical advantages. As the Soviets moved large columns of equipment on a narrow roads, this made them very vulnerable to finish attacks- they effectively used guerilla tactics such as hit-and run as well as ambush, where lightly equipped Finns, who are skillful in cross-country skiing, used mobility and snow camouflage to quickly destroy Soviet units, thus making the work of the snipers, such as Häyhä, easier. *The astounding fact is that Soviets during the first months of fighting still wore a dark uniforms which made them very visible in white background.* On the contrary, Soviet snipers, such as *Vasily Zaytsev,* had to fight against best army in the world at the time (Germany), in difficult conditions of urban warfare (Stalingrad) where fighting takes place in the buildings, rubble, debris, narrow alleys and where individual skills and military prowess of a soldier prevails more than in other cases (like fighting in open area) since house to house combat in narrow sector limits the freedom of movement on the street. Overall, throughout WW2, Soviet Union had the best and most deadliest male and female snipers- *Vladimir Pchelintsev* 456 kills (aka 98% accuracy), *Nikolay Ilyin* 494 kills, *Ivan Sidorenko* ~500 kills. Simo Heya, ( pronounced Hi-ya), prefferd iron sights to using a scope. The irony is, that he used a Russian rifle to kill Russians. With the Mosin Nagant, the difference between the Infantry rifle and the Sniper rifle, is that the Sniper rifle had a scope and a bent bolt handle. The Russian female snipers, were some of the best soldiers to ever take up arms, with many of them haveing astounding kill counts...

Simo has more than 1500 confirmed kills just snipering. He didnt count the kills using his machinegun. There is also an unofficial number of 3000 russians. I lisened to a Swedish military pod about him and it were interesting to hear. He also got the mannerheim cross but he didnt want it because he was only doing his duty for his country. So the had to promote him instead.
