That Tip 2 should have been Tip 1! Matching the lighting is pretty much the most important part of a composite. I could name Star Wars, Star Trek, Hobbit ane Marvel movies where sequences look terrible from mismatched lighting! Good video, good tips. Needed a reminder on #5 myself, since the last thing I keyed was problematic from... Motion blur.

@VFXProductionsRT6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately elements with levels of transparency can be very difficult to key. Filming at a larger frame size would help such as 4K and larger so that there are more pixels, but you might have to look for tutorials that deal with semi-transparent objects such as glass and see if the same tips would apply to smoke etc

Thanks for the great information. I do have a settings question however. Using a Canon C100 II and a Sigma 35 mm 1.4. Home studio plenty of light. 12' x 12' room. With all the lights on including my green screen my camera settings show I'm over exposed on subject.. Shall I assume I set camera settings with green screen lights off and focus on subject then turn on green screen and get a flat Instagram/flat green screen? Would the goal be to shoot at 5.6 (native ISO 850) and then just start turning off lights to get exposure correct? Thanks in advance for your answer.

I’m a newbie here. I’ve done a few green screen videos in the past but they were pretty crappy. I’m trying to level up, and improve my videos. You talk about the 3D backgrounds that you placed behind Josh in this video. That isn’t a flat image is it? I also noticed the final shot how objects in the background image moved naturally as if filmed in a live environment. I haven’t been able to find any information about 3D backgrounds - or any available assets. Have I missed something? Any info would be most helpful.

Hey, Ryan, I know you guys mostly specialise in special effects and not props, but my first full length feature script calls for a killer who stabs people with a kitchen knife and i really wanna show the knife going in. Any thoughts on hiw to make a cheap retractable one. Perferably where the blade goes into the blade instead of the handle.

@ Thanks for the reply! That's not the right one though-I looked into it. I'm pretty sure this one is a true plugin, not a script or pseudo effect. Their script seems nice, but I'd rather make my own if I'm not going to have the speed of a full-fledged effect.

I have the Elgato Green Screen MT mountable version that suddenly developed a large crease during a stalled retraction. After contacting Elgato support asking for potential instructions on removing the crease they voluntarily offered to send new replacement. They are requiring me to write the RMA number across middle of front screen with Sharpie and provide a picture as proof before moving forward. Guess I am stuck trusting they will come through.
