I'd add using precomp with high contrasted rec709 with keylight in "screen matte" view mode as a lumma matte for a raw footage layer below. It's my "plan B" when greenscreen is really bad

"90% of the time of fixing stuff in post-production can be avoided ( by proper lighting )" As a compositor myself, I was almost in tear hearing that. You know how it feels when you received footage with uneven lit lighting and windy green screen.

As a backlight I used a magenta filter quite often. Magenta = Blue and Red. Combined with the green bleed, the color shifts more towards the white. It helped me a lot in creating cleaner keys.

Awesome video, there's only one part I would recommend caution with, which is tip 76 - shooting vertically in order to fit more of the subject in. It sounds intuitive and I used that technique for a video, but as it turns out that makes it a lot harder in post production to match the perspective because the part you're more likely to want in the final frame (the talent's face, for example) will look like it was shot from below because in the vertical frame it was way above the horizon line.

You have given such a huge information. Thankyou.
@PeterJansen
@PeterJansen 3 жыл бұрын
101: Download Nuke 102: Do the alpha key and the despill separately. 103: split the alpha key into core + edge mattes. 104: Garbage mattes can be keyed with another keyer or roto'd (masked). 105: Use the IBK keyer in Nuke over keylight in most circumstances. 106: Use the clean screen from the IBK colour to drive other stuff, for example you can divide the plate by the clean screen to get a image where the screen is white, and also has eliminated all wrinkles/imperfections. You can then multiply this over your background to get more hair detail. 107: Use additive keyer tools. 108: Don't avoid shooting 180 degree shutter, put the extra effort into making the motion blur look good instead. It's a lot easier with Nuke. 109: Avoid shooting in 4:2:2 or lower, and if you have to, a luma key will give you better edges if a chroma key falls apart. 110: Sometimes just grading one of the colour channels will give the best key for a specific region. 111: Watch Tony Lyons keying tutorials on youtube. 112: Use DasGrain gizmo to correctly reintroduce grain, even in despilled areas where the colour has changed significantly. 113: Learn some basic despill equations, heres one: g > (r+b)/2 ? (r+b)/2 : g. This is saying, if the value of green is greater than the average of red and blue, make green the average of red and blue, otherwise, keep the incoming green colour. 114: If you have control over the luma of the background, try make it as close to the screen luma as possible, to aid in integrating edges. 115: You can use an edge detect to despill edges separately. 116: If in quite a pickle, you can use an edge detect + vector generator + vector blur to add more motion blur to the edges of a keyed element. Use sparingly... 117: Use lightwraps (preferably physical exponential glows) to integrate edges where bright objects are behind the keyed subject. 118: Sometimes you just have to roto masks for selective grades/colour corrects/despills. 119: Sometimes you just have to bust out a roto or rotopaint node to fill holes in the matte. 120: Make sure the field of view of the background being added in matches the fov from the key footage (use the same focal length). 121: I have more but I'm tired and need to go to bed, good night.

My tip: In some cases you do not need a green screen. For example, for very short scenes, it is sometimes enough to cut out the actor with the Rotobrush-Tool in After Effects. This can be faster than the whole greenscreen setup.

@@zebrazone Hubby and I work in our churches puppet ministry. Aka we film and direct it... we are considering going from blue screen to green, and possibly painting one side of the room blue and the other green. So happy to see this comment and it isn't considered totally crazy! With puppets it is hard to know sometimes what story line we may be getting into. Hence the toying with the idea of changing the whole setup this Summer! Thanks for the videos!
