Oh my gosh, Janelle. We got back from the UK a couple of weeks ago, spent a couple of days in Edinburgh. It is wonderful. The castle you will see in the city, sitting on top of a volcano we were told was in the Wizard of Oz. You will see why, the exterior is quite creepy looking. We also happened on The Writers Museum, a beautiful old home housing things by Robert Louis Stevenson and Robert Burns. We also saw from the gate, the castle the royal family stays in when in Scotland. There was a pub, can't remember the name, about 'half hung Maggie', a woman who was hung but did not die, thus the name. There is so much to explore. A beautiful park. You will have a blast. I cannot wait to hear about your trip. It is a beautiful city.

You will love Edinburgh! It's a fantastic city with an amazing literary history. If (when) you go to Waterstones, if you look out of the window on the top floor, you have a great view of the castle which is just over the road perched on top of the hill, looking over the city. It's a steep walk up to the castle but a must do. Princes Street Gardens are great to read in. It's a very compact City, great to walk but there are some good open top bus tours and probably some walking tours. You will love the architecture. Congratulations!

How wonderful, Janelle! Happy anniversary to you both!!! I am so excited for you for your trip. I do have a favorite series set in Edinburgh: 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith. The series has one of my two most favorite characters in literature: a little boy named Bertie; he is right up there with Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird. 44 Scotland is a contemporary setting, however, but so cozy and charming, quirky and humorous. There is a Glasgow connection as well.
@TooFondofBooksJH Жыл бұрын
I've read a few books in that series and enjoyed them. There is just something about Alexander McCall Smith - he can write cozy and charming and quirky like no one else!

Hi Janelle, you are not married 25 years! You look way too young. I’m so happy you’re going to Edinburg. It’s a wonderful city. I was there in the 80s for a day or two but I still remember how beautiful it was. Isn’t it fun to plan a trip? I’m planning one to Europe as well for September. By the way I’m really enjoying your suggestion of The chuckling fingers by Mabel Seeley. Aloha

Congrats on 25 years ❤ loving the hair! I've always wanted to visit Edinburgh, I hope you have a wonderful time. All the books sound great especially In Place of Fear. My favourite book set in Edinburgh is The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie though it's not a mystery. A mystery in Edinburgh I really want to get to is Dark Matter by Doug Johnstone. Its about 3 generations of women who run a funeral home and a private detective agency.

Janelle, you are going to love Edinburgh. It has such a dark history and is so atmospheric with beautiful architecture, I've been at least 3 times and absolutely love it there. Make sure you take a decent pair of walking shoes as" the royal mile" up to the castle is steep but so worth it.❤😀

I went to Edinburgh years ago for the festival. I went into a bookstore that prominently displayed a best seller list. I said to to the woman, "You're bestseller list is not that different from the one in the US." She looked at me and said, "Well, that's certainly depressing."

How fun! I'm so excited for you to get to travel! What a great anniversary celebration!! Ian Rankin is my favorite Scottish mystery author and I like Val Mcdermid too. Especially her Kate Brannigan ones, but I don't think they are set in Edinburgh. Kate Atkinson has one set in Edinburgh, I believe. I've also read Liam McIlvanney. His are pretty graphic. The Walsh and the Galbraith ones sound interesting. The Miller one seems a bit grim. I've read Shelton, but not that book. Look forward to your reviews and your videos from your holiday!
