A lesson I learned as a child has always gotten me safely through my trips to NYC: “Don’t talk to strangers (or strange people).” A couple other scams are the artists who offer to sketch your portrait or caricature. They have a $20 price written in big numbers, but then you find out that’s the price of the optional frame after you pay $80 for the picture. Saw it happen once and told the woman, walk away and let him keep the picture. Another scam is the guy who will bump into you and drop his bag with an “expensive antique vase” and try to get you to pay for it because you bumped him. Don’t fall for it. Just walk away, preferably where there’s some people or, better yet, police officer. Yep. Like I said, don’t talk to people or even look at people who attempt to engage you. Ignore them, look straight ahead, and speed up. And, don’t fall prey to their shouts of “you’re a racist” or “you have to pay for that.” Don’t be intimidated by them.

Thanks so much for all the tips! I’ve definitely seen the CD scam before 😩 So scary lol
@jasminetiller44573 жыл бұрын
I've heard about those guys, they work in a group of four to six, pressuring locals/tourists into giving them money, and when they get nothing they'll go as far as assaulting people (Sometimes they'll rob you). But, I had no idea the CD scammers/hustlers would call the police and lie to get their money. Usually, they'll avoid the police due to them selling fake/blank CDs. Police need to keep their ears, and eyes open on what's going on. Also, PAY ATTENTION and do something!!!!

It’s so funny because almost all of these scams I have fallen for in the past so it is good to know I’m not the only one who has. This video was so helpful especially since I’m visiting very soon!

I spent a few months there in 1981. It was a horrible place, drug addicts, porn shops, X rated movies and the like. In the mid 90’s it was awesome, cops everywhere, no beggars, no ticket scammers, no fake products on the sidewalk, no characters but the naked cowboy. I think now, I’d prefer the drug infested 80’s to scumbags everywhere as now.

Do not do the bundle passes is my advice. I'll make a short about why. But booking direct is always the best way!:)

No one hands out comedy brochures anymore They sell tickets at face value. As long as they don't lie about famous comics being at the show, it is not a scam. They should also mention the two drink minimum.

Sometimes artists cut out the middle man by selling their wares direct on the street in cities arounnd the world, it's not all conmen selling you nothing but blank cd's etc.

@@reynaldoiirz7795 well, for starters, I would avoid bringing a car to NYC as parking is SUUUUPER expensive. There is no way around that. There are tons of parking garages, but they are basically the same as paying rent on a second apt. If you want to go to the Statue of Liberty, you need to take Statue CityCruises. www.cityexperiences.com/new-york/city-cruises/statue/ It's the ONLY boat that drops you off at the Statue AND it's in Battery Park...not near Times Square. If you're gonna drive in to catch the boat in Manhattan - I'd park in BAttery Park. But - an even BETTER idea is to catch Statue CityCruises in Liberty Park NJ. That actually has a parking lot! And parking in NJ is MUCH less expensive than Manhattan.

Ok, I agree with you on most of this EXCEPT in certain circumstances of the comedy show tickets. the sellers (at least for the place I worked for) required me (because I used to sell them) to get a ticket sellers license. Some of the sellers would make up a famous comedian but I always told the truth and usually most people would buy and I believe from what I remembered, we were required to let the customers know about the two drink minimum by the owner. Though the problem you're running into is there was know way of enforcing this. So if someone wanted to make shit up they could. The problem would be on the individual and not the club. Not all ticket sellers (at least for comedy clubs) are scams. Also, pretty much all comedy clubs have a two drink minimum. It is kind of known. I went to see Paul Gilbert (guitarist) at The Iridium, and they had a two drink minimum after ticket sales so the two drink minimum is standard across the board for most clubs so if you get surprised you're kind of just out of touch with the world. Oh and I was wearing regular clothes.

You should also mention that its a bad idea to scam people. When I worked at a NYC museum one of my co-workers lent his uniform to a friend so that that friend could sell fake tickets to an event. He did get caught and fired, and he lost my respect.
