Before visiting NYC last October for the first time I binge watched your and John’s KZbin channel and it was probably the smartest thing I did. We blended in with the New Yorkers, avoided the scammers, went to local eateries, tipped a proper 20%, made sure to ‘pull over’ so as to not stop foot traffic, and so much more. We loved NYC so much and will be returning soon!

Thank you to Jon for saying what I have been saying. No selfies at the memorial pools. I think I heard it from him first but when I go there I made a mention of it to the volunteers there to think about posting a request sign or at least let visitors know verbally to please avoid doing the self image pics at a memorial. Great videos and like the content.

I would never take a selfie at the memorial. Yeah I would take a regular photo, but that’s only to show family what I’m doing and where I’m at in NY because I’m moving there soon and they’ll be worrying about my safety so it won’t even be for public use, just simply showing them NY throw my eyes.

Sarah Here is what gets me passed off . The food delivery workers ( Grubhub, Doordash ,Uber Eats and others) since I work in Park Slope. These people have no concept for pedestrian safety .None. They go thru red lights . Ride in the opposite direction and ride on the side walk . They care for delivery, a rating and a tip. Here is my tip for them. Follow the law. Don't break it Respect pedestrian safety. Olive Garden one and done. Did not feel good after I ate at one in Bensonhurst. I eat at a Bar/ Restaurant in Sheepshead Bay and I give 20 percent. People with selfie sticks are a problem. They stop in the middle of the sidewalk. I rather be with my fishing pole and go fishing than a selfie stick. Great video 👍🏻

Sarah, brilliant double-act video, I've watched a load of John's vids as well as most of yours, they're tremendous but the one thing that really pi88es all us visitors off (I'm from Scotland) is the expected 20% tipping - why on earth are these employers getting off with under-paying their staff but expect visitors, who have already paid thousands of dollars to get to NYC in the first place, to pay their wages (or most of it). I've been to NYC 7 times so I do pay it, 15% used to be the norm, 20% as standard is absolutely obscene. 10% would be do-able if the service level was good. NYC is the best city on earth, I absolutely love it but the tipping is just too much for most to comprehend.

It may be true about the cost of housing compared to a different state/commonwealth, but NYC has its charm and so many opportunities. My son's career really kicked off after he moved to NYC. He is now doing things he could only dream of when he lived in our small town. No matter how good you are, if you are not in the middle of it, you will not get that kind of opportunity. Actually, I walk at a faster pace than what you showed. And I walked like that in NYC. If anything, I found the walking pace there too slow that it was annoying (I had somewhere to go to!).

Because nyc is a tourist destination, majority of the world has had tragedies 90% worse than 9/11 that haven’t been turned into a big reflecting pool so they don’t understand the hype, and there is no sign that tells people how to behave. Until they instruct people on how to behave they will continue to do so. So put up a sign and stop expecting the entire planet to cater to you.

@@yusefkhan1752 True, but I do not think you can compare one tragedy to another. And I do not think it is right to play down what happened on 9/11. When it comes to escalators you may not know whether it's the right or left side which you stand on, but if you just pay attention to what everyone else is doing it's not hard to figure it out. There's only two choices! Or if there's somehow no one else on the escalator whose example you can follow, just pick a side and stay there. It's the people who stand in the middle, usually with a huge rolling suitcase, they're the ones who need to be catapulted straight into the river.

It’s because the train is there for less than a minute so I don’t have time to wait for the “real nyers” to be done painting their nails or collecting their homeless bags just so the doors can close and I need to wait for the next one. Be AT THE DOOR when the train arrives. I give 3 seconds for them to leave and then I barrel on.

On my numerous trips to NYC I’ve noticed the problem with the bike lanes tend to be local New Yorkers standing in the lane or jumping out in front of bikes. I don’t think I’ve encountered a tourist blocking a lane. But that’s me personally. The real problem is that the local screams at ME when they are clearly in the wrong.

Just came back from a NY trip. Didn't piss off any New Yorker, it went super well, although I walked the city up and down taking photos from Brooklyn to Harlem, took the subway and stepped aside countless times on the sidewalk to change lenses on my camera. I guess I was a well-behaving tourist😇 Respect those simple rules and you'll be just fine😊 Ok, something about the smiling tourists taking selfies in front of emotionally loaded places, I've witnessed indeed countless tourists at the 9/11 memorial standing in front of remains of the Twin Towers or other artifacts and smiling while taking a selfie like it was some kind of fun attraction, it was deeply disturbing and annoying! Similar experiences I had on Ellis Island which I think is also a place of commemoration and not of joy and fun. It's like everywhere else, respect the place and the place will respect you! 🙏💙🇺🇲🗽

Loved this! I think for any travel knowing the cultural climate for a place will enhance your visit 10 fold! Although some of this seems obvious… I’ve visited NYC on several occasions and tips like this made me Blend in… I was even asked for directions(internal happiness of mission accomplished). 9/11 Reflection pool & the Museum was such a somber experience as it should be. It was hard not to feel “Strong Emotions “ being there. I can only assume it is very similar to the Holocaust museum. It is cringe worthy to see a lack of respect…I didn’t see much when I was there but the “wet eyes” seemed more appropriate! Sarah, “not pissing off NYers” also has a huge safety benefit, you don’t stand out as a visitor & targeted for scams or theft. So thank you so much! NYC is my ❤City and yes one can get a cheaper place to live or visit but would it be as rich in history & cultural experiences? I doubt it! 💚

I’m not even from New York and the slow people on the sidewalk drive me nuts when I’m there. We have the same problem in Toronto

Entertaining, Amusing and frightening for an aging midwesterner like me. I would have to commit all these tips to memory before I would come as I certainly do not want to p!ss everyone off.

I've been to NYC several times and love the city without any doubt. However, sometimes it seems to me that New Yorkers just have NO TIME to enjoy life as they are always in a hurry. Anyway, I love your videos and have been following you both on KZbin and Instagram. Keep posting, and I hopefully can get a private tour with you next time.

Well, why should i care about something like `walking too slow`? If someone from new york doesn't like it - it is his/her problem.

Just went to NYC a few weeks ago & the thing I wasn’t prepared for was how *hot* it was going to be inside every single building 🥵 I came dressed for winter, but I wanted to strip down to my underwear every time we went inside anywhere 😅
