A very nice introduction into the topic. But please remove the background "elevator" music. It just makes it harder to follow the explanations, not to say it drives me nuts ;-)

Hi Rupert, thanks for watching our video and for your feedback! As this is an older video, it does have louder background music - we have since made the background music of our more recent videos less intrusive. If it helps, you can play the video on mute and turn on our captions! Thanks, again, for watching!

A beginner in NGS. Want to know how to go about the pipeline. Any links will you suggest for detailed knowledge?

Hi, does whole genome sequencing falls under next generation sequencing or are they two different technologies?
@abmgood7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, thanks for commenting! Whole genome sequencing (the act of sequencing an organism's entire genome) is a technique that can be accomplished using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies. Whole genome sequencing can also be done using Sanger Sequencing technology however this is much more costly (billions of dollars) and time consumming process (decades) - NGS technologies speed up the process significantly (weeks-months) and is much cheaper (thousands of dollars or less). If you're interested to learn more, you can read more about it on our knowledge base: goo.gl/Ce0M4O

Thank you for giving clarifications as I was confused of it for a long time. That also applies to whole exome sequencing as well (i.e. WES can be done using NGS and Sanger sequencing), right? I initially thought that Sanger sequencing was also completely separate technique to WES hence thanks for mentioning it. Genomics is very new to me so I apologize for my silly questions. :)

Hi Mark! No problem, glad we can help! Yes, Whole Exome Sequencing is the technique of sequencing only the expressed genes (genes that encode for proteins) in an organism's genome (this is only about ~1% of the whole genome of an organism but ~85% of disease-related variants are found within it - that's why WES is a much more cost-effective technique than whole genome sequencing). You can use various sequencing technologies to accomplish Whole Exome Sequencing, including Sanger sequencing.

Hello, for environmental samples, would you recommend WGS or shotgun sequencing ( I don't know what's in the sample and trying to identify everything)
