Yeah. I definitely deal with not saying hi or bye. It’s like my brain freezes up. I just get all quiet. I don’t know why exactly

I don't have issues with saying hi or bye (I used to have a hard time saying hi to someone if I was going to initiate a conversation, but that is not so much of an issue anymore). I do have issues with calling someone by their name and I am not sure if that is just me or not. I have always struggled with that. Even with my parents, I had a hard time saying dad or mum etc... and I have no idea why I find it so hard when I know it shouldn't be. I have that object obsession with my cameras. I got upset when a camera I had, died and couldn't get it to work again. I had got better cameras at that point but it was the camera that died which taught me so much about photography and let me take photographs I can never retake again. I have been trying to get another one of those camera, but finding it hard to find one in working condition. I used to talk more monotone and in a lower voice, especially when I was a teenager and I really noticed it when I watched videos I have of myself when I was a teenager and into my early 20s. I taught myself to speak better , and since I did, I stopped talking in monotone and in a lower voice.

I ‘stim’ by clashing my teeth together in time to music in my head, picking skin and repeating phrases or words or sounds. I also tend to bestow things with personalities and become attached to them. Old bits of tissue in my coat pockets is a good example of that. I get very upset if they disappear or drop out of my pocket without my noticing. Some of them (tissue) are months or even years old. And my sense of smell is phenomenal. Blood hounds have nothing on me. 😊👍

OMS! I was diagnosed wit CAPD, CPD, when I graduated from college... I didn't get diagnosed with autism 'til this yr, 50. I had no idea these are related! I get attached emotionally. I have placed part of my own energy, so I have an EXTREMELY hard time letting go. Been criticized about this since I was a child and being in a certain order and symmetry is a must!

You make me understand my sons so much more. I also see behaviours I have linked it your symptoms but I am still not sure I’m autistic. I know I have ADHD though. I smell everything and didn’t realise this was possibly down to autism/SPD. My youngest son has an extremely strong sense of smell he will smell things minutes before any of the rest of us do. He comments on smells a lot even if it’s a candle or wax melt he will often say it’s disgusting. It obviously overwhelms his smell. I find that because of his strong sense of smell it can put him off trying foods he will smell it and say he doesn’t like it but if we were to tell him to hold his nose and take a bite he actually likes the taste of the food but hates the smell. It took us years to realise this but I think it’s an interesting one. P.S (We don’t force him to eat foods or try foods it’s only when he really wants to I suggested holding his nose for a second so he could try the taste and if he didn’t like it that was ok.)

I most certainly have a smelling problem, but different to what you mentioned. If I THINK there is something, I smell it. For instance if I think that one of my cats has pooped on the litterbox, I smell this overwhelmingly. Uptil the point that I have to check it several times, knowing fullwell that my cats haven’t even been inside and its impossible. Or smell flowers, gas or something burning, cigarettes that aren’t there., that kind of thing. And I too see objects as something with a soul and therefor will apologize to them when I accidentally bump into them or drop them.

I grind my teeth to the music that is always in my head. Would this be considered a stim? I have a difficult time getting rid of things, unless I find someone that wants it, I call it Toy Story syndrome. Talking about objects having personality, I invented the term inanimate consciousness when I was young.

Same here. I’ve done it (teeth clashing to music in my head) since I was a child.

Yeah, I have a it’s not really a speech impediment it’s more like a sound that comes out of me when I get agitated. The funny thing is, I can’t hear it.

I do talk in a low voice, but I'm just afraid of any individuals reaction to how I sound.
