Josh, it might be a good idea to do a "best setups under $500" as well. You'll need an amp and DAC for a lot of these, so it would be nice to see what a full system would be for under $500.

Thanks Josh for confirming what I ended up for my Endgame, the 660's. I picked this over the Sundara, Ananda, LCD2, and the Dan Clark for the same key point...Longevity, Realibility, Unbeatable Mid range and Vocals, and the best all-arounder.

Nice job! I owned versions of most of those except for the Argons, and I still use the DT1990 with recording and guitar amp. The one headphone I'd have considered for your top 5, kind of an opposite of the Argons, is the AKG + Drop AKG7XX. I had the K701 in 2006 when it was considered one of the top 3 flagships. The soundstage is outstanding. I've only heard better from the Voce and Shangri-La Jr, which makes it great for movies, which is why I use it in the living room. The 58X couldn't compete in that regard, and the clamping force was surprisingly tight, whereas the 7XX is lighter (235g vs 260) and more comfortable.

I bought the Sendy Aiva's used for just under $400 based on Zeos' review and am really enjoying them. I bought a balanced XLR adapter to go along with them and find the more power you can give them the better. Excellent sounding headphones for the price, I think you would really enjoy them as well.

Hey Joshua. Your sundara review prompted me to buy them, and I’m really happy with the purchase. With that being said, i think it’s better to mention that the argons have a painstakingly long wait time to be assembled. I have only owned 1 headhone (headset actually, the hyperX cloudcore) my entire life and used it for years on my pc and now its time to replace it. I'm no audiophile but after watching a lot of these videos im really interested in at least trying better audio headphones. is there a generally recommended best intro headphones for this hobby? I was planning to one of the marshall headphones and as far as i can tell, they aren't that popular among enthusiasts and maybe even get bad rep but i was planning on using them outside so the looks played an impt part haha but i was thinking of maybe getting one intro level good audio headphone for my pc setup. hope you can help, sorry for the wall of text haha

One of the reasons that i watch your videos has been your occasional mention of reliability and quality control. I never hear other reviewers talk about these considerations, or- in fairness, i do not remember hearing about this from other reviewers. What materials are used to make a headphone would not necessarily get my attention, but its durability and reliability would be a consideration when vetting products, especially as they go up in price- but, really, generally. So, i appreciate this focus among all details you regularly you cover.

AKG 702. Ok, it is bass lean, and this is still after I did the quite simple bass mod, but it is still a good all-rounder with a great sound-stage and reference sound for all applications. This is also assuming you have a proper DAC/amp to power it, but nevertheless a great headphone and very comfortable. Best used when looking for the actual sound rather than a colored one, but imo if the music you listen to has any merit, it should be "fun" enough.

I have much better headphones, but the bass, the overall energy of the X2 I always end up picking up when I want to jam out. It's detailed enough, I actually find it very capable, it's built like a tank, it's easy to drive and the sound stage is great. It's like Beats on steriods. As for my next pair, im probably gonna go Sundara or Dt1990. Though I feel like those two are probably more analytical.

@Joshua Valour Please do the Sundara, Dt 1990 and 660S comparison. Would be bordering on beyond amazing! Thanks for all to good content. You're the audio reviewer I find the most balanced opinions among pretty everybody doing audio/headphones. I'm always more informed about the way I might experience audio from your videos. Which is all you could ask for in such a subjective area as listening is when you boil it down to how everybody experience sound in pretty much their own way. Also I'm majoring in communication sciences and what you're doing and the way you're presenting your channel is professional in every way shape and form. Keep it up!

Joshua, love your videos and your style of presentation. Sad to not see the Ananda's here, though pleased to hear you echoing my own experience with Hifiman products (ie - have had multiple models and no QC problems) edit: I'm a moron and forgot that less than 500 UK pounds is not the same as less than 500 US dollars!

@IsraelCruzJr 4 жыл бұрын
The Ananda wasn't mentioned because it is a $700 headphone. A good pair of headphones, though, if you are interested in them. The Sundara is worth the $350 price as well if you're looking to purchase a Hifiman headphone.

Good afternoon Joshua. Have already watched several of your KZbin videos. Very interesting. Am a music fan. Listen to all genres on high end installation. Luxman front and end amplifier Kef reference boxes. Come from a large detached house with a living room of 7 by 11 meters with an adjoining kitchen of 7 by 4 meters. So he was able to experience the dynamics in the music (eg 9th sympony by Dvorak, Cello concerts by Hayden, Time by Pink Floyd) very well. Moved to apartment due to circumstances. Can't show the dynamics I would like here because the downstairs neighbor is complaining. I usually listen to music while I cook. Already seen what your revieuws are and could find my thing there. However, my question is: Are there wireless headphones that offer a high-end quality so that I can wear the headphones while cooking? What can a bluetooth connection handle? Thanks in advance for the effort. Philippe Myny

@@xfrostyresonance8614 Bubby may have been wrong, but your comment doesn't reveal that Joshua was wrong - could be that you misunderstood him to be complimenting the planar when he was actually stating a personal preference for the speed of dynamic drivers. (I personally don't think that's the case, but since your point was made with "soooo" it was too easy to pass up.)

I'm kind of drawn to the DT 1990 and will also be looking for a headphone amp to go with something like this. To me 500$ sounds like a good start and maybe a 1-200$ amp, but what's your take on the source? Would a laptop or an iPod/iPhone with stream or CD quality music make a good enough setup? I guess the lower the compression the better the sound quality, but will good hardware get enough out of streaming quality? Will I be better off with a good CD player instead? Anyway, great content, great channel, keep it up!

I'm using a JDS atom and khadas tone board with mine, going beyond that and your spending lots of money for tiny (if any) improvement. Tidal HIFI as the source, but the difference between it and spotify premium isn't big enough to warrant overthinking it, I would of stayed with spotify but the app has been buggy for me.
